Update for my ALS mods: The last Teardown update has broken the lights and it will take me forever to fix this issue. I don't have the time or motivation to fix this time-consuming and frustrating issue, no motivation what's however. Refer back to this.

A subdivision of the DPG are the Close Protection Officers (CPOs) who, as the name suggests, are close to people who are vulnerable to attacks, such as members of parliament, the prime minister and other people. Consider them bodyguards.
Not to mention you also have MDP, or Ministry of Defence Police, who are heavily armed. The protect nuclear sites, escort nuclear weaponry and conduct raids on targets who may be plotting or be involved in terror incidences regarding these nuclear sites. Their jobs are very boring, however, they do in fact always carry firearms in marked police cars.

Not just in vans...
Some officers patrol with firearms, such as AFOs and DPG officers.
Not to mention that the MDP also always have firearms on them.
So yes, not all of them are armed, but a significant amount are. You go to London for a week I can assure you you'll see a police officer with a firearm.

Hope this helps :)

@Ѣ Поверніть Ят Ѣ Not all of them are armed, however AFOs (Authorised Firearms Officers) are allowed to do normal policing duties in a marked police car, these are identifiable by a star shape (*) in the windows, often bright yellow or red.
They will typically drive BMW X5s, not vans. CTSFO (Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officers) however, they primarily drive unmarked vehicles.
You also have DPG (Diplomatic Protection Group) who drive cars, vans etc. (typically bright red - with the typical yellow and blue battenberg livery) they protect key sites such as parliament and Buckingham Palace. DPG are also in fact, armed.

The other guy. They literally aren't armed. If they need weapons they bring them in a van, and that's only in the most extreme situations
