The V-12 is the heaviest and most lifting helicopter ever built in the world. A distinctive feature is the lateral location of the rifle on the wings of the reverse narrowing.
The helicopter made its first flight on July 10, 1968 under the control of test pilot V.P. Koloshenko. In February 1969, he lifted 31,030 kg of payload to a height of 2910 m. On August 6, 1969, the B-12 lifted a payload of 44,205 kg to a height of 2255 m, setting a world record for helicopter payload.

Первый полёт вертолёт совершил 10 июля 1968 года под управлением лётчика-испытателя В. П. Колошенко. В феврале 1969 года поднял 31 030 кг полезной нагрузки на высоту 2910 м. 6 августа 1969 года В-12 поднял груз в 44 205 кг на высоту 2255 м, установив мировой рекорд грузоподъёмности для вертолётов.
