Comprehensive tables detailing the stats of all units, both regular and special units. Now you can more easily see which units are strongest!

This section includes two features to help you find where to hire special units:

1. Pictures to visually show where units are available
   
2. Tables with comprehensive info on province and kingdom availability for each special unit

Locations were updated in game patch v1.4.0, expanding the availability of special units to be more kingdom-wide than just province specific.

You're trying to recruit an army with some basic archers and swordsmen, but suddenly your enemy comes at you with Templar Knights! How did they get these powerful units and why can't you?

Wonder no more... this guide will detail where you can find all these special units, how much they cost, and how strong they are.

A special unit is simply one that is only available for certain kingdoms or provinces. In-game, there is no tool to see where units are available unfortunately. The best you can do is manually check each province to see what's available. However, you can't do this to enemy provinces, so it's impossible to know where other units are available. Hence why I made this guide, to make it clear where to find all the special units.

The tables below include all relevant statistics broken up by unit category.

Special units in bold to distinguish them from regular units.

Stat tables below use the following icons:

Infantry and Spearmen are combined because the only real difference is that Spearmen have a higher attack vs cavalry (for Infantry the attack value is the same).

All infantry/spearmen have 300 Manpower, except for Peasants and Militia, who have 400.

The "Weapon" column shows a sword () or spear () to distinguish them.

Note: Cavalry archers are only included in the Cavalry section to avoid confusion

The tables show Kingdoms and Provinces where each special unit may be recruited. Note that some kingdoms must be unlocked through a Unite Quest, such as Bulgarian Empire.

Some units are only available in certain periods. If this is the case, the kingdom or province will have the following letters next to its name:
E - Early
M - Mid
L - Late

Since province name is difficult to find on the map, I've created images for the Province locations showing where each unit is available for each time period.

The following colors are used to denote time periods when a unit is available:
White = All periods
Red = Early only
Magenta = Early / Mid only
Blue = Mid only
Green = Mid / Late only
Yellow = Late only
Orange = Early / Late only

A warrior class of Slavic amoured knights of the highest ranks - a powerful force in every battle.

Camel riders, capable to shoot at their enemies at short range. They are more efficient versus cavalry, as the horses detest their smell.

Light cavalry, extremely well suited for desert warfare and good against conventional cavalry, since the smell of camels makes the horses alarmed and disoriented.

Unstoppable heavy cavalry, in which both the horseman and mount are draped from head to toe in armour.

Archers which require only minimal training. They can shoot at a long distance, but only a few bolts per minute.

Extremely heavily armoured cavalrymen, whose training in the art of war matches the quality of their equipment.

Well armored polearm soldiers, capable to fend off both cavalry and infantry attacks with their goedendag and pikes.
Two lines of the Flemish pikemen can attack at the same time and they are more effective against cavalry.

Professional soldiers of slave heritage, slightly less armored, but more mobile than standard heavy cavalry.

Foot soldiers, heavily armoured and armed with two-handed polearms, unmatched in their defensive capabilities.
Two lines of the halberdiers can attack at the same time and they are more effective against cavalry.

Brave Scottish warriors with high stamina and mobility, lightly armoured but still capable of defending themselves well.

Fast European light cavalry, used both in raids, harrasment and skirmishing.

Ottoman standing army, trained to fight with swords and bows and arrows just as well.

Kingdom must be Sunni or Shia Islam

Light horsemen of Christian Iberia, perfect for harrasment of the enemy with their hit and run tactics.

Highly trained archers, armed with a powerful wooden bow, effective even against armoured enemies. Longbowmen are equipped and specialized to fight especially well against cavalry.

Initially bought or recruited as slaves, mamluks are trained and released as professional light cavalry soldiers, skilled both with bow and arrow and in close combat.

Well trained and heavily armoured soldiers, skilled both in attack and defense when it comes to close combat.

Though a bit less armored than European heavy cavalry, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lancers are armed with bows as well and surpass them in speed, manoeuvrability and stamina, which are especially valuable qualities in the vast grassland plains.


Elite mounted archers, able to shoot from a long distance and also having some armour for close combat, once it becomes unavoidable.

Partly descendants of norse vikings, the heavily armoured and extensively trained norman knights are fearless and deadly in battle.

Professional archers, protected in battle by their formidable shields. They can shoot at a long distance, but only a few bolts per minute.

Heavily armoured knights of noble heritage. The elite training of these warriors and their horses tunrs them into unstoppable force on the battlefield.

Well trained and organized heavy infantry, famous for its defensive tactics.

Province religion must be Orthodox

Skilled Muslim warriors, well-rounded in their mobility, attack and defense capabilities.

Province religion must be Sunni or Shia Islam

Foot soldiers with lighter armor. They can maneuver faster and maintain their stamina longer than the heavy infantry, but do not stand a chance in direct confrontation.

Elite Turk cavalry, extensively trained and equipped with the finest arms and armour.

The most elite warriors even among knights, a symbol of purity and chastity. They are heavily armoured and supported in conquest by three-four horses and few squires.

Superbly armored and trained heavy infantry troops that would rather die than surrender against the enemies of Christ.

Kingdom must be Catholic

Knights of the teutonic order, very well trained and equipped, fearless and dreadful in battle.

Heavily armoured sellswords of Viking heritage. Though their wage is high, their skills in melee combat are known to justify it.

Fierce Norse warriors with high stamina, famous for their vicious attacks, but poor in defense.

The following table lists the special units in KoH2:Sovereign plus the cost to hire them.
Special units can only be recruited in certain provinces, which are specified further below in this guide.

Provinces are sorted alphabetically and show which special units are available in each time period: Early, Mid, and Late.
