Improve Performance on Older RTX GPUs (2/3000 Series)
By excd
Seems like most of the performance guides on here just say to lower the DLSS mode, but this game actually offers a lot more configuration than that.

Please note:
DO NOT TOUCH the normal Portal graphics settings, they do nothing and will cause instability, most people reporting crashes probably did this. Instead, press Alt + X to open Nvidia's new overlay settings menu.

Disclaimer:
I did not figure any of these settings out myself nor do I fully understand what they do, credit goes to user Pixels in the comments section of Digital Foundry's video on Portal RTX. According to him, many of these settings use 4000 series exclusive features which hurt performance on older cards with no visual benefit as well as settings that are unnecessarily high, I wanted to post these here so more people could be aware of them.

*Update: After the 1.05 patch, several of these settings are disabled by default on lower graphics presets, making this guide less necessary.

Basic Settings
Press Alt + X to open the new settings menu, the following image shows how I have my basic settings. These are mostly just for reference, so feel free to copy or adjust them how you please. Just be aware that increasing them may of course negatively impact performance.
Developer Settings
Click 'Developer Settings Menu' in the bottom left of the new settings menu. Then adjust the following settings to the same or similar to what I've listed below.

Path Tracing:
-Resolver:
Max Secondary Interactions: 1
-PSR:
Max Reflection: 2
Max Transmission: 2
-Integrator:
Unordered Resolve in Indirect Rays: Disable
Min Path Bounces: 0
Max Path Bounces: 1 (or higher depending on your setup)

Opacity Micromap: Disable

Lighting:
RIS Light Sample Count: 2
-ReSTIR GI:
ReSTIR GI Spatial Bias Correction: None

Volumetrics:
Per-Portal Volumes: Disable
Initial RIS Sample Count: 2

Denoising:
-Settings:
Separate Primary Direct/Indirect Denoiser: Disable

NOTE: Make sure you actually click 'Save Settings' or they will reset the next time you launch the game.
Additional Information
These settings should allow for a higher DLSS mode (balanced in my case), while still looking great with a playable framerate. For reference, I have an RTX 2070 at 1080p.

There could be more ways to optimize performance on older cards, so experiment with these settings if you want (I also left out a few I felt reduced visual quality too much). I have no experience with AMD cards so I cannot speak for their performance.

Some replies in the video comments said they saw no improvement with these settings, but personally I saw a huge difference, feel free to comment your experience.

i did get an improvement, but it was minor.. i have an RTX 3060 12GB, and before I would get about 45 fps with DLSS set to balanced, but now I get a little under 60

I have an RTX 3060 ti 8GB. Instant improvement. 1080p 60fps with rare dips, and it looks amazing. Thank you
