Grease (Black Mage 2) + Fireball + Any Fire Pet: Toasted lower level enemies. Bonus if any other character also has fire abilities. Bigger bonus if you have acquired improved summoning abilities at a certain temple.
COUNTERSPELL (Generic 4): If you got lucky with an early rush of the Kitsune then Mai drops this spell. So on one raid you get Arc Cannon and Counterspell for free. (!) If not so lucky then
Kohaku sells it after you're on good terms and I think Tetsuya also trains it. Great spell against significant boss enemies.
Last thing...keep an eye on that threat meter. White/Hybrid mages do a lot better with someone soaking threat from them. Have fun!
sorry....character length imp got me so I had to divide this one.
Roaring Storm: (Black Mage 2, both trainers) - Constant DoT to all enemies at a low level, and most enemies don't do well vs. Storm damage and have low Magic Resist. Keep doing damage whlie handling all those baddies that AoE swing/spell/missile your party, or take the offensive and do even MORE damage!
Lightning Spike: (Black Mage 1): You'll be getting rid of this early but it's a good source of low-level AoE damage that has a low resist rate.
ARC CANNON: (Black Mage 4): Take the chance and attack the Kitsune in their lair. If you survive and can defeat Kazuo then he'll drop at a high (maybe 100%) rate. Otherwise when you get in their good graces later you can buy it from Kohaku (Kitsune Merchant)
ALL THE SMITE SPELLS have great situational usages, and depending on your build you can annihilate enemies even on hard with them.
Utilize anyone you want to also learn Black Mage skills to complete and round out your spellbook, and eventually try to get as many spells you can to make flexible spellsets for any occasion.
Gamechanger Hybrid Spells from lower levels that can stay relevant:
I'd personally recommend getting a +3 stat spread for your character creation so you don't need to Drink for that stat, but that's just the minmaxer in me talking.
