'Ello Stranger. - Vinny the Vendor

As of typing, Slasher's Keep is at v1.36. Several changes to the alchemy system if you're coming back from previous versions:

Added:

• Reagent: Water
  
• Reagent: Wine
  
• All new mixes for the new reagents with the existing ones.

Changed:

• Reagent Explosive Gel renamed Liquid Fire. Functions and mixes the same, you can now scoop it up from magma also.

Removed:

• Ability to distill armors, weapons, and others components into bottles. You can only use Liquid Amber (STR), Shadow Philter (DEX), and Dungaberry's Concoction (INT) potions now.

Fixed:
Bug that may have caused items upgraded using Sanctified Ointment to render the save file unloadable. This was related to item textures. Sanctified Ointment will now change those as well. Previously corrupted saves should also load again.
Fixed:
v1.35 didn't fix the Sanctified Ointment issue but this one did. Previously corrupted saves should also load again, for really real.

Once you realize the power of Bottles you won't be able to get enough of them. I can average about 1.7 bottles acquired every 2 levels playing on infinite runs. That's:

• 1 from the Vendor (guaranteed 100%),
  
• 2nd from the Vendor (infrequent i.e. 25%),
  
• mob loot (uncommon),
  
• box loot (uncommon),
  
• vase/clay pot loot (rare),
  
• sparkly treasure chest / golden blob mob (rare), or
  
• the Altar Chair of Sacrifice. ALL HAIL THE CHAIR! Once you get far into an Infinite Run you'll end up standing in front of the CHAIR feeding it, hoping for Bottles. Bottles drop from all colors from Reds to Greens. Bottles only drop from Armor, Weapons, Rings, Amulets, and Weapon Parts. So, don't feed it HP, Invulnerability, or Mana potions thinking you're going to get an empty bottle.

Permalearn! Permalearn! Permalearn! You don't care about recommendations, you only want to know what you can Permalearn. Here you go.

Many great, good, and mediocre combinations for potions exist. These aren't them. Avoid:

Whole Jug of Wine: Wine + Wine

Causes you to be "blackout drunk". While it's funny when you fall over backward, you wake up with no equipment back on level 1. Might be good for permadeath mode if you can't find an elevator. Dump your stuff in a chute and chug the jug. Otherwise Avoid.

Aureating Agent Liquid Steel + Liquid Fire

A one time use fire bomb that gives you money based on how much damage you do. Only useful if you can throw it into a group of enemies, which usually means they're surrounding you. You only worry about money early game, when you absolutely should not allow yourself to get surrounded. High risk. Low reward. Waste of a bottle.

Honest Thief: Shadow Philter + Dungaberry's Concoction

Only boosts stats by slightly more than inputs provided. That is: if Shadow Philter was +52 DEX and Dungaberry's Concoction was +48 INT you get a boost of +51 to DEX and +51 to INT. Uses a whole bottle for little gain. Just drink the raw, unmixed, potions and keep your bottle.

Ice on the Rocks Liquid Ice + Liquid Ice

While a straight boost to XP reads enticing, the bump you get is about the same you get from 3 Purple Shrines. Takes 2 Liquid Ice, which would be better used on Brain Freezes.

First time or starting fresh with a new character? Recommended uses for your bottles:

---

Refreshing Drink: Water + Water.

Resets (refills) your currently running killstreak timer plus it gives you a bottle back. You can now rack up those high XP kill streaks. Great for those early dungeon levels, conveniently there's water everywhere there.

Nog Punch: Kinetic Goop + Wine

Permalearn Improved Sack Smack an important skill when just starting out. Reagents are easy to find in the limited 10 level runs.

Club Oil: Kinetic Goop + Blade Oil

Usable only on Maces, Increases damage by 10%. When you're first running through you'll rely on the damage output of maces. When you get to crafting your own mace use this oil on the Maces Head. Don't use it on the fully constructed mace, you'll lose the bonus when you disassemble it again. Plus you can stack Club Oils. 1st application = 10% more damage. 2nd = 21% more. 3rd = 33%... etc.

Brain Freeze: Liquid Ice + Liquid Amber

Quivering Quail: Kinetic Goop + Kinetic Goop

Permalearn Quickstriker.You can't one-shot everything in Slasher's Keep. So you'll be doing the parry - light swing - light swing rhythm mini-game. What if those light-swings did more damage? Quickstriker = more damage.

Vivifying Sanguinate: HP Potion + HP Potion

Increases your Maximum Health. While not the most glorious of concoctions, sometimes you just need a larger pool of health to keep you off your back. A little extra can help you survive tougher encounters. You don't lose it when you drop your stuff down the chute and "pass out".

Brain Freeze: Liquid Ice + Liquid Amber

Skill Points +1.0. More skills. More better. Allows you to Permalearn important skills like Reflect, Improved Sack Smack, or Golden Tongue.

Liquid Frost (Diluted Flask of Frost): Liquid Ice + Water

Makes two Flask of Frost (Liquid Ice) from one. Allowing you to make more Brain Freezes. Flask of Frost are preciously hard to come by in shorter dungeons.

Diluted Liquid Amber: Liquid Amber + Water.

Having a tough time getting enough Liquid Amber's to make Brain Freezes? While it reduces the stat bonus by 2/3rds it gives back two Liquid Amber. Brain Freeze doesn't care or use the stat bonus. You get +1 Skill from a +1 bottle or a +256 bottle. wink

Titan Snot: HP Potion + Liquid Steel, or
Chromatic Moonshine: HP Potion + Chromatic Dust


Game+ adds Demon Shrines to the dungeon. First touch grants you a random skill level at the cost of reducing your maximum hit points. These two potions restore your maximum hit points. After touching several shrines, just mix up one of these and you're good to go.

Well okay then. You're stuck here forever or maybe you just like being here. Either way.

Infinite Mode is where Bottles turn from great resources to Overpowered Game Changer. Water will become your single most used Reagent.

Parchment Grease: Dungaberry's Concoction + Liquid Steel.

Doubles the effect on scrolls. But RED RIDER..., I hear you moan, scrolls aren't powerful at all. Take a little Parchment Grease and apply it to one of these:


The Warrior's Writ, The Trickster's Treatise, The Magician's Manifesto
(Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence)

Notice how the stat bonus doubles? Now do it again. Notice how it didn't stop you and doubled it again? Guess what happens if you keep making Grease and reapplying it?


When you think that number big enough* use the scroll on a Purple/Red Ring or Amulet. You only wear the Ring and Amulet for it's stats anyway. It'll become your Forever Ring but, you'll never find a better one. =) You could also use it on one of your crafting misc. parts.

And with your stat bonuses you'll have some overpowered damage output.


Buffs Hit Points too.



Cryomastery and Pyromastery are powerful, consider moving to a short sword. The bonuses to damage don't taper off at higher skill levels. You want lots of hits so they trigger every 5th hit, guaranteed.

* WARNING. It seems like if you go past INT_MAX of 2,147,483,647 (2.1 billion) with your stats buff it causes problems and ruins the scroll making it only buff by 1 point. Way to get the most out if this is if you start with a Parchment that's 1 less than a power of 2. Like 15, 31, 63, etc.

Parchment Grease II: Electric Boogaloo: Dungaberry's Concoction + Liquid Steel.

Same Parchment Grease as above. You probably noticed that Dexterity Buffs aren't as "helpful" to Armor Rating as Strength is to Damage and Hit Points. Enter The Cyberthurgist's Cryptograph

Parchment Grease isn't as powerful here. Every applicaion adds +20% to the Cryptograph Scroll. That is: 1st application +40%, 2nd +60%, 3rd +80%... Thing is if you can get a stack of 2 or 4 Cryptographs it only takes 1 Parchment Grease to raise all of them to +40%. You can also boost the gain over 100%.

So if you used a 200% Cryptograph on a +2000 Armor, you'd gain +4000. The Armor bonus gained from using a Cryptograph can't not be taken away. It's like Natural Armor from D&D. It's just part of you now.

Diluted Dungaberry's Concoction: Dungaberry's Concoction + Water.

Having a tough time getting enough Dung to make Parchment Grease? While it reduces the stat bonus by 2/3rds it gives back two Dungaberry's Concoctions. Parchment Grease doesn't factor in the stat bonus. wink

Diluted Liquid Amber Liquid Amber + Water

Same reasoning as above. More reagents for other mixes that don't factor in the stat bonus

Diluted Shadow Philter Shadow Philter + Water

Same reasoning as above. More reagents for other mixes that don't factor in the stat bonus.

Creeping Shadow: Explosive Gel + Shadow Philter

Melee crit +3.0% and usable on any equipment item. Like that Ring, Amulet, or Crafting Component you're adding crazy stats to with Parchment Grease.

Crits 50% of the time? 75%? Yes, Please. Careful with Amulet and Rings. Their limits seem to be 9.0%. While you can continue to apply more Creeping Shadow and the number on the Ring/Amulet keeps going up, your overall crit chance won't increase. Weapon Parts seem to have no limit (Hint: Jewel of the East/West).

Primodial Soup: Liquid Fire + Wine

Transforms an item of a different type. Got a red/purple weapon, armor, wand, or component that you can't use? Rather than throw it onto the Altar, Transform it into a different item of the same rarity. Best part it can update a lower level item to your current level. So if you have an old Red "required level 45" and loot is dropping at "required level 56" the Transformed Red will come out at 56. Example:
Don't you dare save-scum.
Warning: the input item updates to the current loot dropping level of the floor you are on. Transforming a high level red item when on floors that drop loot at levels lower than the input will pop out an under whelming red item. YMMV.

Unfortunately, Steam has a limit on the amount of characters you can place in one Section of a Guide (8000?). Formatting information into tables takes a lots of characters. So rather than getting everything in one huge dump, it's broken up into each individual reagents. Starting with:

Also collected from magma in the 2nd Biome. To collect from magma, place an empty or half-filled bottle on your hot bar. Aim. Press hot key number.

Found in every forge room, waterfalls in the first biome, and assorted pools of water in the 2nd and 3rd biomes. To collect, place an empty or half-filled bottle on your hot bar. Aim. Press hot key number.
