Just found this. If you magic blast those big wooden wine kegs, they start leaking, I don't think you can drink them to replenish you magic, but you can collected in a bottle. They also have some liquid physics programmed in, the lower points will leak longer.
Liquid steel comes from invulnerability potions. If my guides IMAGES WORKED (STEAM) you wouldn't have had to ask. /rant

At Dungeon Level 4, I noted my HP at X before drinking the Vivifying Sanguinate and Y after. I also noted my STR at Z. I stripped my gear, dumped it down the chute, then suicided against the spider. After waking up and leveling my STR back to Z without changing my gear, I noticed my HP was still at X.
However, you may be referring to permadeath where you literally jump down a chute instead of dying. If that's the case, the rules may be different there.
