The Steamdeck can play this old gem complete with cinematics. (written Dec 2022)

I could go into extensive details step by step, but there is already a cinematics guide here for PC. I will go over the steamdeck differences to save time for folk. I assume people will google for individual steps that are unclear

Steps

1. Install from steam, execute once (this creates the wine prefix folder)
2. Enter steam desktop mode via power menu
3. Install protontricks via discover app (lots of guides on this if needed)
4. Open protontricks from utilities menu, select Septerra from the game list. (at time of writing steam beta mode will give you error about magic numbers, steam stable will not)
5. Enable silent install (bugs if not)
6. Select "Select the default wineprefix" option
7. Select winecfg, windows version target should be "Windows XP"
8. Select "Install a windows dll or component"
9. Find the quicktime entry, let it install, select the lowest version (not sure if this matters, but what I picked)
10. Select "Run explorer" from the protontricks menu and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicktime
11. Launch the quicktime application, allow it to default quicktime types, then go to preferences, find the "DirectX" checkbox options and untick both of them (leave the radio button as-is)
12. Quit protontricks, return to steamos mode (not desktop) and run the game.

Quicktime isn't installed by default even on new versions - jkbuilan, you are mistaken - but having a later version of proton is always nice to have.

Without resolving the compatibility and video issues you may be able to *launch* the game, but won't have a good experience as features will be missing.

Valve fixed this with Proton 9.0-4
you do not need to do this anymore
