CAUTION
While I do not know of any audio methods one good indicator that you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the files is the classic duplication visual glitch. Much like when you play a source map without a functioning skybox, you'll notice menu options and screens replicating a similar glitch. Which is why I would recommend that you mod the game with your in-game resolution mode set to windowed. Just in case a visual glitch like that happens you can easily exit out.

If any additional modding errors occur I will update any modding guides I make with that updated warning.
Introduction
THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT A GUIDE SO PLEASE GO EASY ON ME

As mentioned in the description this guide will quickly walk you through the oh so complex world of modding 1982. At the end of this guide you'll hopefully have an understanding of how to import your own music and change any sound effect if you so desire to.

Now let us begin!
The Basics
Of course before we modify any files we must find said files and back them up.

Folder location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\1982

or wherever you installed steam.

Now an easier way of accessing local files would be to go to your library and right click on 1982, go to manage, and then select browse local files and then continue from there.

The folder we are looking for in question should be named media.
After finding said folder, due to the small size of the game this part is easy and you probably wont need a external drive, just simply CTRL+C and CTRL+V in another folder or drive.

In this folder you will find .png, .wav, and .mp3 files. These will contain sprite sheets and menu screens, sfx, and music. Now within the folder you will find that there is a folder called my_music but keep in mind as of recent the devs have mentioned that that function to add up to 20 .mp3 tracks is no longer functional.

Now we begin the modding of SFX and music!
Music!
Despite the fact that you can no longer add 20 tracks to jam out to, that does not mean you have to listen to the same track over and over again. No shame to amazing composers who captured that arcade-y feel, but sometimes I want to jam out to some alt rock or something really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid.

In the media folder there is a file that reads as:
TheKhakinator-1982
Now there is a second .mp3 file but I have yet to see what it does, when I find out I will update the guide ASAP.

With whatever song you're using make sure it is in .mp3 format.
Simply copy the name of the original file and rename the song you want to add with that name.

I have yet to notice any bugs or errors when it comes to length of the song you're using as a replacement but I will update this guide if any issues do occur,

Just like that you replaced the original song with another one of your liking. :)

Now onto the SFX!

SFX!
In this folder there are 53 unique sound files in the .wav format, which means the past method we did for the music section will be a tedious method to use, however I know of no other method and I also appear to have masochist tendencies. And I hope you do too, cause this will be the method we'll use until a better method shows up.

Find all 53 unique .wav files and be ready to do a lot of CTRL+C and CTRL+Ving. Have all 53 replacement files ready, be these 53 unique .wav files or repeats of lord knows how many (in tinkering I very lazily and regrettably modded all the SFX to be Peter Griffin stating that he is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so I had to CTRL+C and CTRL+V 52 times and do the renaming process 53 times).

After renaming all 53 files with whatever SFX you're replacing them with respectively, place them in and you are done. All the files should be modified.

Of course you do not have to mod all 53 files, mod the ones you want to mod. Just make sure to listen to the SFX and know which one you are replacing. After finding the one you want to replace just copy and pate the name and replace.

Simple as that.

And there you have it, that is how you can modify SFX.
.wav???
If you do not know how to download a video into a .wav file or get whatever sound into that file then I can quickly walk you through that process.

Use whatever audio editing software you have, I personally use and would recommend Audacity cause its free, and simply import the audio you want to convert to a .wav file and export it as a .wav file.

There, easy as pie and now you can mod your SFX.
Last thoughts, don't read this if you don't really care
That was a hopefully simple guide on how to add custom music and sfx to this lovely gem of a game. If you have any questions, constructive criticisms or any other comments do leave them below. I'll do my best to answer them asap.
