Introduction

Have you ever finished 'Behind Her Blue Flame' and wished you could continue playing as the Empire into the main campaign? Or wanted to see what the game would be like from the other side's perspective? Well now you can! With this total conversion mod you can play the main story of the game from the Imperial side.

This mod uses save files to rebuild each of the main campaign's levels to put you in control of the Empire's forces in a way that remains lore-friendly and immersive. This is done by replacing all of your units characters/vehicles/weapons with their Empire equivalents, whilst doing the same for the enemy units to convert them to their Gallian equivalents. Multiple textures have also been converted as part of this "Imperial Gamemode" including UI elements, icons, flags and map markings.

This mod should be compatible with any balancing mods like "Imperial Onslaught" and "Gallian Crossfire" so long as you install this one last, but always make backups to be safe!

How to install:

  • 1. First, backup your save files which can be found under ../steamapps/common/Valkyria Chronicles/data/savegame/[Bunch of numbers]/ by creating a new folder and dragging them into there.

  • 2. Extract the contents of 'Empire Mod Textures' to your ../steamapps/common/Valkyria Chronicles/ folder and say yes to replacing any files it asks you to.

  • 3. Open the folder of the mission you want to play and copy
its .dat to your [bunch of numbers] folder.

  • 4. Success! You should now be able to open the game and access that mission by loading the save file, think of it like a misson selection screen!

IMPORTANT NOTES (PLEASE READ!):
Since this was done entirely through hex editing it meant there were a lot of limits for what could be modded without breaking the game.

As a result, a lot of levels can't get the "Operation Complete" screen, and even when you do finish a level, it will just break the game if you try proceeding to the next mission without loading its save. So most levels your goal is simply to kill all of the enemy units and then use the next mission's save to progress through the campaign.

If you lose and want to retry a mission reload the save instead, using retry will break the game. Please also note, Imperial units have many of the potentials from Squad 7 but lack animations so you will sometimes see a funny t-posing Lancer or Selvaria from time to time! (Maybe it's just an Imperial culture thing...?)

Additionally, certain levels have specific things in them which can crash or softlock the game, so I have included .txt files in each mission's folder which explain the things to avoid in that particular level and any other information to be aware of. Each mission folder sometimes contains a second folder with a more difficult alternative version to the mission to spice things up! (I recommend it for Naggiar Part 1!)

Thanks for checking out my mod, it was fun to make and I hope you enjoy it! If you have any feedback please feel free to leave a comment! This was just for fun so keep in mind it's far from perfect!

hi there, im wondering if its possible to remove the grenade/ flamethrower attachment on weapons (appearance wise), since this is one of the only mods on VC1 that does model replacements. Thanks!

I am glad to see you had fun while making the mod. It would be interesting to see the game through the Imperial perspective. Best of luck in the future.
