How to beat people above your level without knowing flipreset and other tricks
By BoGy1980 (bogy.be)
In this guide i'll put some info that most C and GC players will think it's total BS, but I can prove to those players that i'm not mistaking myself here.

I'm a core believer that tactical play (when u play without making mistakes and/or missing shots) will always be a stronger force than knowing cool tricks like flip-reset.

If you own the next capacities; and are (gonna hit) Diamond or Champion but are struggling to move up in the ranks; then read carefully, i'm gonna expose some very important things that you just MUST use if you want to beat smurfs at your level, every ballchaser, every guy trying to score with "cool trickshots" and everyone that was carried into the place where you are at... Sometimes you'll even win from players that are actually really above your level.

Let's start with some ... Glossary
I'll start with defining what i mean with certain words or terms i use in this Guide:

  • Defending from goal: that means you start behind the line, at the backpost of your goal if the enemy is still far away. If he is trying to trick u with a flip reset or a lob, then once he get's closer than 2/3 of your side of the field you stay BEHIND your goalline but move towards the middle, facing your car directly towards him. If he tries to lob, DO NOT MOVE until he made his lobshot, on flip-resets you'll have to offer him a goal by reading his moves and try to remember when he does his final shot (most players use muscle memory so always do the same without realising it)
  • Situational Awareness: using wide angle views to know where exactly on the field you are, the ball is, your teammate(s) is AND where all of your opponents are + the direction everthing is moving in. Also, try to remember which player has which engine sound and/or boost and how it sounds. This way you create more situational awareness when using sound as a second way to create more situational awareness. Use this info to set up goals for teammates using the extra invisible player.
  • Goal of the game: The goal of the game is TO WIN A MATCH, not to BECOME MVP. If you play well and have a teammate that plays correct too, you'll end up MVP just more than enough times. If you try to be MVP you'll start making dumb shots, trying to do shots all by yourself and do nothing but giving a teamplaying team EZ goals.
  • The invisible teammate: The walls / backboard / corners / any protrusions in the map (like the rings in hoops)

that's it for now... Move on to the guide itself where you'll find real golden info that should really help u forward if you weren't aware of these things.
First: Lobs and how to exploit them as a defender to score.
i once had a 2v2 tourney where my tm never showed up, played till the semi's by myself and then got pummeled by two smurfs that were just too strong to handle alone.

Each mode has different positioning strategies, having good positioning is already half the win, the second part is not mechanical tricks, but tactical play and playing flawlessly (so making no mistakes)
i beat any gc player if i'm playing flawlessly, and i don't know how to do trickshots like w2a-dribbles, flip-resets, musty-flicks, etc... Those are all just nice tricks that look cool in a video, but totally useless in ranked play, especially in 2v and 3v they are totally worthless tricks that only makes you outplay yourself cuz you're moving slow in the air (flip reset for instance: if you know how to defend that in 1v1 you almost ALWAYS get to score when they are doing it, so it's like "Invitation to make me and my flip reset look a very stupid move to make"
(i meant: invitation to make me and my flipreset look so very very dumb)

The ONLY trick that is really usable in matches is the LOB, and if you learn it (or know how to do it); it's VERY important to vary your lobs. Don't always shoot it up on the same moment or driving at the same speed because that makes your shot predictable, easy defendable and exploitable...

Exploiting the lob-countermove: Most opponents using the lob don't have enough control to vary their shots against my defense tactics. I go to goal defense and act like i'm defending my goal, i closely watch their every move detecting what they do exactly before the lob and let them score once. At this moment they think "oooh finally i found a hole in BoGy's defense" and they'll try to use that again. The second time they cross the middle line with a ball ON their car know when they'll try to perform that lob, giving me the exploitable timeframe to play it softly away towards their goal and score (they'll be facing the wrong direction, so play it away slowly the first time, once you're lined up for a direct hit goal, shoot it towards their goal and score. DO NOT USE AIR or tricks FOR THIS GOAL!!!). Surely they will try again because you just made them think you became very lucky.
So they're gonna try again at a certain moment, now take a bit more distance when u see they're gonna try to lob again, observe their moves again and the moment they're gonna shoot it up, make speed and air towards where that ball is gonna be in the air (opponent is still recovering from the lob-move so can't defend your airshot) and play it away again but now you'll have more speed and will be able to score again if you don't make technical mistakes... so their lob just delivered 2 goals for the defender vs 1 for the attacker (them) at that moment. If they don't have enough mastery of the lob they'll try again (very stupid ofc) or stop using and try something else, most of the time they'll try flip reset as next move (or have already performed it).

Second: Flip Resets are exploitable when used against u!
Most people think flip resets are undefendable, which is totally untrue. In 1v it's partly true IF the performer of that trick has very very good control of his airtime, boost and ball in the air and is able to delay his flipreset shot while in air. In 2v and 3v flip resets are basically useless as 2 defenders can easily remove a slow moving ball that might be flip-resetted. Basically in multiplayer (2v/3v) the guy in goal waits. The defender(s) not in goal move up and try to shoot it away BEFORE the resetted shot (so the final shot). He'll either hit the ball or the player, if as goalkeeper you see he's gonna miss, then wait till you're sure the reset has been done (or is performed), go up and hit it after the opponent did the car-reset and is gonna line up again to flip the ball towards your goal.

In 1v1 it's quite the same story as with the lobs; i'll let them score one time at that moment, i'm still ahead from the lob goals so np at all. I'll look very closely what they do right before the reset-move and the final shot, i act like i missed the def (just jump+flip backwards) so again think they found a hole in my defense.
And then it's all just rince and repeat, let them take another flip reset (drive back to goal after "giving" them the ball (that's the bait)), then wait in my goal the moment they play that ball towards one of the sidewall (their lineup for a flipreset or w2a move).
They surely gonna try again, and the moment i see them doing the corrections before the final shot (so just after they reset their flip on the ball) I'm up, play that ball away towards their goal and score an ez goal... that's how you counter them. And use the (quick)chat to let them think you were lucky, so they'll try again...
Third: Situational Awareness is key in teamplay + use chat as a psych tool!
Using chat to downplay your own moves and make them think you're lucky half of the goals you make, that makes them think they're superior and they'll perform the same (exploitable) moves over and over again.
If you don't already, I really think you should start using chat during the game... Quickchat especially, cuz that's done from the controller so you don't even need a keyboard and quickchat works cross-platform

The most important thing in teambased (2v/3v/extramode) RL is complete situational awareness.
If you have total situational awareness of the field you're playing on, you can make moves the enemy doesn't expect u to do and create very ez shots for teammates... the opponent ALWAYS thinks you're gonna try to score yourself.. that's just the nature of most players; to try themselves and become MVP... that's almost totally a flawlessly exploitable tactic that works 90% of the time in diamond, 80% in champ and in GC and higher it can vary from 10 to 65%, even SSL players fall for that exploit... thats why me and a diamond won from an ssl and a C in hoops, cuz i just know these things about how people's minds work. Reversed psychology in RL ...
Fourth: Patience is key, don't rush too much when opponent has ball possession!
Please, make my typing worthwhile and try these to implement these things. and if you play without missing your shots you gonna own the field very very hard and make it almost impossible to win from u.

if you're not sure in 1v that a certain shot you're gonna make is gonna be a goal, then just return to own side, boost up fully, get in the goal and defend their shots, they'll make mistakes; you just wait and when you defend properly you'll score at least half of the attempts they make. Don't rush things, stay calm and try to attack too, but once the ball crosses midfield and they play properly, you should know when to move back to your own goal... if they're dribbling slowly and are too far away to shoot that lob directly into your goal, you can try to attack one time before going to goal, don't go full speed, cuz if they dribble sideways when you jump up (single jump, to take the ball away and direct it towards their side of the field) then it's too late, try slow vs slow, when you shoot it away that way, you're going with the ball towards their goal, they'll be facing towards your goal and you just created a lot of distance between you which makes it for the opponent too late to return towards u and the ball and defend your EZ shot. DO NOT RUSH once u shot it away, just make sure that you're lined up for a SINGLE SHOT goal without needing air. There's plenty of time, only if the nmy does a half-flip you might need some speed (boost) before you take the actual scoring shot at their goal.

djeez, i'm giving you all my tactical advantages... i think i'm not gonna be able to win as much anymore, as you know how i play now (most of the stuff i use at least, the important ones that make u score ez goals against players from your and higher level)
Fifth: Training Correctly; "Featured" tab should be mandatory if you want to getgud.
last tip: don't invest time in special tricks when doing training. Once you play without making dumb flaws or misses you shouldn't do free play training anymore. Once you know how to make a wallshot goal and it works every time in training and u can vary the lob. Freeplay training is over and it's only good as warmup, although casual 1v1 is 10x better to warmup for ranked play.
The only useful "trick" you could learn to master is the LOB, remember that! All other things one can do to score or defend is basic RL moves like double flip to speed up, doubleflip2air for speedy (but less controllable) air moves, basic wall shots, basic air movement. if you know how to do all that, try to complete all the shots in the "featured" window from the custom training option.. if you don't make any of these shots on the very first try, then keep repeating that same shot until you can do it 2x without a fail in between. (so 2x consecutively)

Only move on to the next shot with these "rules".
This way you ensure yourself that you actually know the shot and that it wasn't pure luck. Some shots you'll have some luck during the retry, but if you can't do it 2x without a fail, that means you probably are yet not in enough control of your car for that move. Keep trying and repeating that shot until you can perform the shots 2x, it'll train muscle memory and you'll end up repeating that shot each time u need it in a proper game)

So simply said: shots need to go in first try OR go in 2x consecutively before advancing to the next shot. Sometimes you'll need 20 or more retries to do it 2x perfect. Sometimes you don't see how to score that goal, then use YT or try something new that is NOT what's expected and will give you an advantage if the same situation occurs. It's very important that u make the first shot on the ball while it's still in air and preferably as high as possible, don't let it touch the ground, and if there's a time limit do not think that "ow that would go in if it had 0.1 seconds more time" counts as a score. With timelimits it HAS to be in before it's over. (and some timelimits enforce you to not let the ball touch the floor at all, respect that, i've done all of them in featured and almost each and every shot is possible with either direct move on the ball from startposition OR an alt move nobody suspects)
This way you'll train muscle memory so you can actually use the shot when the opportunity shows itself in a real game.

i once needed 15 minutes for a single shot to be able to perform it 2x flawlessly... I was diamond back then and the trainer was GC level... Without realizing it back then, this rinse and repeating created my muscle memory moves, so i don't need to think to perform them, it became automatism.
The very next day i got almost exactly the same ball situation in a 3v game and was able to score this very hard but trained shot.
ALL 3 opponents and both my teammates were saying stuff like "Sick!" and "Wow".

When such things happen you'll realize that training those very hard shots is actually worth it.
A lot more worthy than doing a flip reset that almost everyone knows in champ how to do...
Seeing opportunity in situations when for the enemy it looks like there's no danger for them and thus won't set up a counter move for what you're going to do is waaay more important than impressing people because u can do a totally useless (multi-)flip-reset ...

Conclusion + little smurftalk
I want to conclude with saying that i took a fair amount of time to expose most of the tactics I use and which work perfectly against players up to GC.

People reading this guide will probably outplay me the next time i meet them on the battlefields because now you know what to expect from me.

I hope that you find this info worth, I took quite some time to make a draft txt document, then split it up into parts and putting enough details into each part so it should be clear and reachable for anyone who's at least platinum and/or has at least 1000 games under the belt (in the last year) AND is using only a single account (smurfs are totally worthless and they're so dumb that they'll call me out for saying this guide is BS and flip resets are very cool and more "tricks" should be learned).

they probably don't even read the whole thing but only upon the parts they THINK that certain moves are not defendable, but that's just cuz they smurf the whole time and don't get actual good players against them which KNOW how to repell each and every move and then score almost every time after their goal was attacked...

If you follow this guide and don't make mechanical mistakes, i PROMISE you that you'll end up laughing when you're in 1v1 ranked, see a player with only 50 game wins in his account and having diamond or higher ranks in 2v/3v/tournament (use tracker plugin to see their stats every start of a match), you'll laugh really hard when they start playing more and more aggressive (even dumber, and better for you) and you'll end up laughing out loud when it's 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 or whatever score while the match is only half way and they ragequit without a gg or waiting to see the scoretable... You just know that u punched that stupid bully right into his face, planting him in a big pile of ♥♥♥♥, and if he's streaming he'll be shouting on his stream that YOU are the cheater and his audience will drop.. that just gives u such a fantastic feeling!
Rewards are always welcome!
I spent almost 2hrs to complete this guide and edit it so it's readable for everyone.

If you appreciate my effort then I would greatly appreciate any rewards you'd offer me for this Guide.
You don't have to, i'm not begging, I'm just saying that it's a welcome gift that shows your appreciation for the effort I made.

I'm also a twitch streamer, i'm not gonna put the link here, you should have enough info from my nickname :)
On popular Request, another RL Fan Picture :)
Since I seem to touch so many catlovers with my picture, I decided to add one just for the pleasure of giving some joy to others... Here's another one,

This is the most badass my cat ever looked at something, the pic was even shot by accident :)

hey bogy I was the player that flip resetted on u (aevon) just wanted to let u know that I could help you rank up a bit also ur a tough guy like playing so many games and allat stuff so I just want to explain myself from what happened in that match

I can make it to GC2 easily using this playstyle. I could make it to SSL with this playstyle if I stop making mistakes myself and improve my overall mechanics. If you want to rank up solo queuing, then you have to play this playstyle, it is not an option. The only other option is to become a mechanical god where the enemy cannot defend your offensive prowess. I still have fun playing this way, but it is more fun to be dumb and ballchase haha. I have been playing since launch back in 2015 and I recently had someone convince me to try to reach SSL. I just play casually these days but I may try to challenge myself to it since this is my favorite game of all time. I will let you know if I ever reach it lol.

Hey "I suc at this game" ..
What you're saying is not wrong, but SSL might be a bit over-reaching :)
You'll be able to reach till C2/C3 and with a bit of luck even till GC. But you're missing out on ANY FUN if you play like that.. I have been playing like that a few months ago, went till C2/C3 in both 2V and 3V ranked mode. Sadly i eventually gave up on playing like that because it became too boring and I had the feeling that no more progress was in that bag of "unpleasant gaming"...

But yeah, you can reach Champion rank if you take the role of "cleaner" to wipe all the messed up shots from your teammate, as long as they're not owngoaling on their defence... And you won't have any pleasure while playing this style...
JAYWAL 20 Jun, 2023 @ 10:05am
You can make it to SSL using only your brain if you do not make mistakes. You have to learn how to play to compensate for your teammate(s). You have to do the heavy lifting in the majority of your games to rank up because your teammate(s) will make multiple mistakes a game that need to be covered. It is hard to play like this because you have to sandbag, but it is the only way to rank up when solo queuing. Smurfing is inevitable, but if you play using your brain, you can sometimes beat the smurf teams in a 1v2 or 1v3. Try to incorporate this into your game, you will rank up easily.
BoGy1980 (bogy.be)  [author] 20 Jun, 2023 @ 1:59am
me SSL? ???
no mate, I'll never reach it... btw, check out the player rank distribution... u do realize that SSL is running empty, right?
What i'm saying is, the cheaters are so prevalent in switching between their multiple accounts, that they don't even find the time to play enough with their main account and keep their ranks up where they belong... they rather go EZ-mode and use one of their many (or create another new one) smurf accounts to get EZ content for YT and EZ wins for their pleasure and EZ targets to bully and call everyone a bad player...

(continued in post below)

I know where i'd belong, but i'm so used to seeing people to triple flipresets pixel perfect in a diamond match, perfect wave dashing and speedflipping (something you can only master if you really have A LOT of experience, and i mean PERFECTION, not just being able to pull a diagonal flip kickoff u mostly see, which is NOT a speedflip) that i totally lost the urge to rank up any further, it's just NO USE... Every time i get into Champ levels, my teammates are 10x worse than those in diamond...
JAYWAL 18 Jun, 2023 @ 7:56pm
Did ya make it to SSL yet?
VS1 16 Jun, 2023 @ 3:40am
ur funny
BoGy1980 (bogy.be)  [author] 15 Jun, 2023 @ 12:13pm
ow and yeah, i could advice anyone to use tracker plugin for overwolf, it makes cheater-detection very very simple and ez... you see it before a game starts if your opponent (or teammate) is a cheat or not...
BoGy1980 (bogy.be)  [author] 15 Jun, 2023 @ 12:13pm
@chrome ... do you really think i never train to better myself?
The issue is that i get teamed up with people that either call themselves 'GOAT' but play like an animal that goes "bleh".. Sometimes i get a decent teammate, and then we dominate the match, but a lot more i get tm's that think they're Da Bomb cuz they can flipreset, and want to show off rendering the match to just 'free shots everywhere' for the opponent team...
In 1V i suck, always done so, i've been like 30 times on Plat3div4 with 1 win to get into diamond, then to fall back a few divisions cuz regular players become replaced with smurfs (everyone with more than 1 account IS A SMURF, no excuse!) which play like GC in a platinum match...

Last time i was Diamond in 1V was when Psyonix didn't yet sell-out to the big pile foknite-bux and people still had to pay for every account they wanted to create... Once it became F2P the massive influx of smurfaccounts started ...
