The BGM-2 Falchion surface to surface missile
The BGM-2 Falchion is a medium range missile, primarily designed for surface to surface engagements. It can be used for surface to air, although its effectiveness against targets moving fast and perpendicular to it is quite poor. The Falchion excels at engaging surface targets, either land or sea, at ranges up to ~4.5 km. With its large explosive charge, it is devastating against all kinds of targets, large or small.
This is the newest Block IV variant, upgraded to use the new Dual Mode Guidance System. What this means is that the Falchion can be guided using either radar or a laser designator, giving it much greater flexibility to engage targets. The Falchion will prioritize laser designated targets, and will switch off its proximity fuse as long as it's tracking a laser target. This provides the ability to fire the Falchion over or near to other unintended targets without it tracking or hitting them by mistake. If the laser is lost or switched off, the Falchion will return to seeking the closest radar target within its field of view. The operator also has the ability to broadcast the desired search wavelength via composite channel 4, otherwise the missile will target a laser spot with a wavelength of zero.

Features
  • A dual mode laser/radar guidance system
  • A proximity fused detonator system
  • A backup impact detonator
  • A large warhead for its size
  • 4500 m range against surface targets
  • Easy mounting to most existing vehicles

The Falchion's large size means it must be used with a relatively large launch platform, but it has a long range for a munition its size and simplicity. Unlike other current ACT missiles, the Falchion can be launched at a laser spot where a target is expected to be without having visual contact. To avoid blue-on-blue, this is not a good idea.

The name "Falchion" is derived from the heavy short sword class, as like the common falchion, the BGM-2 can clap some cheeks despite its relatively small size.

The Falchion works well with the ACT Laser Wavelength Modifier System Mk.1, although it isn't required.
