1. Introduction
West of Dead achievements are mainly related to the progression through the main story, but a few of them ask the player to defeat outlaws and save good souls met in Purgatory. Specifically, the achievements are: Justice Begins, Bounty Hunter and Lawman, for defeated outlaws; Good Soul (I), Good Soul (II) and Good Soul (III), for saved souls.

The aforementioned achievements require some grinding, but there are no in-game counters for defeated outlaws or saved souls. Considering that the game is a little buggy, some people may feel unmotivated in not knowing whether they are making progress or not with their achievements. If you belong to this category of player, I have good news: it's actually possible to check how many outlaws/souls have been defeated/saved, and in this guide I'll show you how.
2. Requirements
Both counts are stored in a single text file (that is the save game data file), so the only thing you need for this method to work is a text editor/viewer featuring a search/find function (ex. Notepad).
3. Save game data location
The first step is to locate your save game data file. The correct location depends on your system, you can take a look at the West of Dead page on PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com] to find it.

For Windows systems, the file is usually located within AppData, a hidden folder in the User folder. The exact location usually looks like this (please note that the "USER" word must be changed to your specific User name folder):
C:\Users\USER\AppData\LocalLow\Upstream Arcade\West of Dead\

Alternatively, you can use this shortcut to speed up things, just copy-paste it into the address bar of file explorer and then press Enter:
%APPDATA%\..\LocalLow\Upstream Arcade\West of Dead\

After reaching the West of Dead folder, look for a folder whose name is a sequence of numbers (corresponding to your Steam ID, by the way). It contains a single text file: that's the one we're looking for. If you see multiple folders with numerical names, you probably use more than one Steam account on your computer, so you have to figure out which one corresponds to the correct account.
4. How to find the outlaw and soul counts
After locating the save game data file, open it using the text editor. The game data is stored as a long JSON string, quite easy to read if you're familiar with the JSON format (don't worry, you don't need to know it for this guide). However, before proceeding further, please consider copy-pasting the whole content into a new blank file and working with it instead: this way, you can already close the save game data file and avoid any risk to mess things up.

Now use the "find" function of your text editor to find the substring: _OutlawIDs
This substring is followed by a list of "OutlawX" substrings (the "X" is a number), all separated by commas. Here's the trick: the "X" number of the last "OutlawX" substring on this list should be the number of defeated outlaws. The whole list is enclosed between two square brackets, so you can't go wrong.

The procedure for the saved souls is pretty much the same, but the substring to look for is this one: _SoulIDs
Again, this substring is followed by a list of "LostSoulX" substrings, very similar to the previous one. The "X" number of the last "LostSoulX" substring on this list should be the number of saved souls.

You might find two occurrences for both "_OutlawIDs" and "_SoulIDs". It's not an error: one is related to your current run, while the other is related to your overall progress through the story. In such a case, just check both occurrences.
5. What if...
... you edit the save game data file, in order to immediately get the achievements?

The answer is: no, refrain from proceeding. There are multiple reasons for not doing it, the main one is: the outlaws and souls entries you found on those lists are linked to other entries of the save game data file. It can be dangerous to add new entries without updating other parts of the file.
6. Conclusion
Thanks for reading this far, I really appreciate it!
Please consider giving the guide a "thumbs up" if it has been useful for you. You can also add it to your "favourite" or share it with your friends. Feel free to add a comment below in case of doubts or mistakes, feedbacks are welcome.

That's all, folks! 🐷

found a way cloud get achievement by editing data file;

every time you start a new round, examine the data file, you'll find at the bottom of the file there is several more "Outlaw (numbers)" than you overall outlaw progress numbers, i assume that's how may outlaws you'll find in current run, but it doesn't matter cause we don't have to beat them;

at the bottom of the file, you'll find {"_Defeated":false,"_WinCount":0,"_GeneratedSeed":***"_StolenLightAttackWeapon":null,"_StolenHeavyAttackWeapon":null,"_RunCreatedOn":***,"$id":"***"}

now you have current run's GeneratedSeed number, just copy all above up, then close the game, open save file, paste into your "_OutlawSaveData", remember change the "false" to true

As for "Lost Soul", use the Seed number, you can also add up lost soul number freely. But notice, edit the "_IDs""_SaveData""_SaveMap" all together. now you just have to close game--edit file--new game... you'll get enough outlaws and souls

@KAIIRU you're the mvp for figuring out the seeds, at least the part relevant to the grind achievements, it is SO much quicker than playing normally. Thank you very much!

For the people grinding this way, I'd add that you can skip the majority of the rooms on the way to the outlaw, and for the outlaw and lost soul seed, almost all the time the lost soul is on the room after the outlaw, although sometimes very rarely the righteous soul is there instead of a lost soul, in that case you have to look for the lost soul on other rooms.

The only thing that now bugs me, is the fact players will unlock the Lawman achivement first, as for me, I'm in Chapter 4, and Lost Souls appaers less than I fight against Outlaws. Sure, the game tries to force me to complete the story, but cut me a break!

A somewhat helpful tip: I just got the achievement for getting all 50 Lost Souls, but the achievement popped when I accepted the burden rather than when I killed the required 6 enemies.

So, technically speaking, you have to kill 50 Outlaws but you only have to accept, not finish, 49 Lost Soul quests.

the path to finding the save data on my computer doesn't work, any tips? Using the copy/paste brings me to a cloud log but no save data, no files named with my Steam ID, nothing. ctrl+F in the log shows nothing for "Outlaw" or "Soul." Tried searching for the files the manual way too with the steps in the PC Gaming Wiki link and also didn't make any progress.

:340 RIGHTEOUS soul only.
so for lost soul achievement farming you're going to want to reset until you get a :344 or :346
And for outlaw farming it's :346, :342, :142
KAIIRU 26 Jan, 2023 @ 10:17pm
:346 outlaw, righteous AND lost soul.
:140 nothing
:142 outlaw only / no souls

So I'm not 100% certain but I think every seed code that ends in :344 has a lost soul on crypts. So far every single 344 has had one for me. I think the :340 ones as well but not sure.
edit: just had a 342 seed with outlaw and RIGHTEOUS soul but no regular lost.

@edo google translate:
su código semilla está en la parte inferior derecha. Creo que las que acaban en ":344" siempre han perdido el alma.
