Resident Evil Village is a direct sequel to the previous entry in the Resident Evil 7: Biohazard franchise. To fully understand the events described in the new game, it is first worth explaining what happened in Louisiana three years ago.

Beware - spoilers!

A girl named Mia Winters secretly works for a pharmaceutical company and part-time terrorist organization "Connection", which is also engaged in the production of biological weapons. More recently, the company has developed a new bioweapon that visually resembles a little girl, but in fact the sample is a parasitic organism that integrates into the cells of a living person and takes complete control over it. The BSAA documents say that with the help of such "girls" it was possible to infect entire villages or small towns without much difficulty.

Having learned that a rival company wants to get a sample of such a weapon, the "Connection" instructs to quickly transport it to a secure secret laboratory. A ship was chosen as the transport, and Mia Winters and Alan Droney were entrusted with the protection of a bioweapon named Evelyn. The agents of the "Connection" had to play the role of the girl's parents in order to safely deliver the cargo to its destination.

On the way to the lab, the ship is caught in a storm and Evelina loses control and goes free. The girl quickly deals with all the members of the crew, but is in no hurry to kill her named mother. Submitting to a natural instinct, Evelina tries to start a family, where Mia Winters plays the role of a mother. The victims of biological weapons also become a quiet family of farmers who arrived to help those affected by the storm. Evelina infects the Bakers with a pathogen, takes over their minds and grants each of them her ability.

While infected but still conscious, Mia Winters sends a message to her husband Ethan, tearfully asking him not to try to find her. Ethan does exactly the opposite, fights the changed members of the Baker family, obtains an antidote and injects his beloved.

Chris Redfield, a former BSAA operative, helps a couple escape drug wars and hides them in eastern Europe, unaware that doing so will only make things worse.

В качестве транспорта был выбран корабль, а заниматься защитой биооружия по имени Эвелина, было поручено Мии Уинтерс и Алану Дроуни. Агенты «Соединения» должны были сыграть роль родителей девочки, чтобы благополучно доставить груз в пункт назначения.

Three years after the incident at the Baker home, the beautiful baby Rose is born to the couple. The family is trying to live a normal life, but another Winters family dinner turns into a real nightmare: armed men, led by Chris Redfield, break into the house, kill Mia with his own hands and take the baby from her father who does not understand anything.

The convoy carrying the Winters family dies under mysterious circumstances. Mia and Rosa disappear without a trace, and Ethan finds himself in an unfamiliar area, in a village, among the picturesque mountains. In wanderings around the abandoned village, Ethan manages to lose several fingers and gets acquainted with the four lords of these lands, led by a certain Mother Miranda.

The third flask is kept by the weakest of the lords - Salvator Moro. The body of this antagonist is constantly mutating, turning into a huge amphibian. Moro himself cannot do anything about it, but only tries to stop the main character from letting him take possession of the third flask. Oddly enough, the fourth flask is not in storage with the next lord. The last living lord, Karl Heisenberg, personally offers Ethan help in exchange for a "small favor". The hero receives the last flask, inserts all the items found into the Giant's Cup and takes it to the place of the ceremony. This is where the protagonist meets the final lord.

Unlike other henchmen of Miranda, Heisenberg is not going to follow the orders of his mentor. He realizes that he is not strong enough to fight back his creator alone, so he asks Ethan to give him the power of his daughter, Rose. Ethan refuses and kills Karl Heisenberg, after which he meets with Miranda. The main antagonist rips out the heart of our hero, after which we see the story through the eyes of Chris Redfield.

Before storming the village, Chris' squad spots BSAA helicopters that are also trying to attack the megamycelium. Chris encounters numerous bands of werewolves, finds a megamycelium and Miranda's laboratory. Recordings from the laboratory give us a clue as to where the vampires, werewolves, giant fish and other monsters come from in this village. After releasing the real Mia Winters from imprisonment, Chris learns Ethan's main secret.

Before the battle, he sees his daughter, Rose, which Miranda takes out of a dark vessel. After the final fight, the protagonist gives Rose to Chris Redfield, sacrifices himself and destroys the megamycelium.

From the final video, we learn that the BSAA sent not ordinary soldiers to clean up the megamycelium, but biological weapons - mutants that look like zombies we are used to. Upon learning of this, Chris Redfield orders to head to the BSAA headquarters in Europe, but what happened next remains behind the scenes.

In the next scene, the already adult Rose Winters appears before us, who came to the grave of her father to honor his memory. But even here, Chris's agents get to her. One of them calls the teenager Evelina, which infuriates her. The girl gets into the car and soon leaves the cemetery. But at the very last moment, the car stops, and a male silhouette appears next to the passenger door.

What is megamycelium?/Что такое мегамицелий?
]Megamycelium is a living organism found in one of the caves near the castle of the Dimitrescu family. It is a parasite that is embedded in the human body and behaves differently with each individual human individual. Megamycelium endows people with strong body and mind with inhuman abilities, rapid regeneration and all kinds of mutations. At the moment we have very little information about this individual. It is known that Miranda was a scientist and at the dawn of the 20th century she found megamycelium in caves near the village and the castle. The girl wandered into the caves for a reason, she tried to commit suicide after the death of her only daughter Eve. The grave of this girl can be found during the passage of the game, it also indicates the date of birth and death of Miranda's daughter.

The girl died of an illness at the age of 10.
With the help of megamycelium, Miranda was simply trying to resurrect her child. Thus began experiments on people: first, Miranda took possession of all the influential personalities, "lords", then began to conduct experiments on the villagers.

Miranda's first experience was captured in one of the game's authors' sketches. The storyboard depicts villagers dying one by one, to whom Miranda kindly grants an antidote by planting megamycelium in their bodies. Since the commoners in this wilderness are weak in mind, the parasite rejects their bodies and turns them into werewolves, completely taking over their minds.

If we carefully read the BSAA reports, we learn that the terrorist organization "Connection" directly contacted Miranda and even tried to cooperate with her. In exchange for the Kadu embryos, the terrorists agreed to create for Miranda an exact copy of her daughter, Evelina. The same girl who became the main antagonist in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

The Wandering Trader appears throughout the game in various locations to purchase found treasures from Ethan, sell weapons and upgrades to the main character. The Duke, as he himself introduced himself to the protagonist, the whole story acts not only in his own selfish interests, but also in the interests of Ethan. It is this character that helps Ethan understand the hierarchy of local lords, find and get all the flasks with parts of the Rose. Well, after the battle with Heisenberg, the Duke saves the guy from the factory and delivers him to the place of the ritual, where the battle with Miranda takes place.

But who is he really? There is no unequivocal answer to this question in any document in the game and in game bonuses. The Duke was originally supposed to appear in the game as the fifth lord and one of the most powerful enemies. But who was he before he met Ethan Winters?

To begin with, Duke is most likely not the character's real name. This is easily confirmed if you try to play the game in foreign languages. In each localization, the Duke will sound not like a name, but like one of the titles of nobility. A duke is a military leader elected by the tribal nobility. Most likely, in the past, the merchant served the rulers of these lands and held the honorary position of a duke.

Duke's size makes it clear that Miranda must have implanted kadu embryos into this hero. If we take this fact for granted, then it can explain how, in an unknown way, the Duke is able to quickly move between locations and climb into small rooms, which would seem impossible for a person of such dimensions.

The local lords are familiar with the Duke. This is confirmed by the diary of Alsina Dimitrescu, who was waiting to meet him a few days after Ethan's arrival in the village. Even so, it still remains a mystery to us what prompted the Duke to take the side of a stranger and help him in every possible way to destroy the imaginary empire of Miranda.

Но кем он является на самом деле? На этот вопрос нет однозначного ответа ни в одном документе в игре и в игровых бонусах. Изначально Герцог должен был появиться в игре как пятый лорд и один из самых сильных врагов. Но кем он был до того, как встретился с Итаном Уинтерсом?

Начнем с того, что Герцог — это, скорее всего, не настоящее имя персонажа. Это легко подтверждается, если попробовать пройти игру на иностранных языках. В каждой локализации Герцог будет звучать не как имя, а как один из дворянских титулов. Герцог — это военный предводитель, избираемый родоплеменной знатью. Вероятнее всего, в прошлом торговец прислуживал властителям этих земель и занимал почетную должность герцога.

Размеры Герцога дают нам понять, что, наверняка Миранда вживила эмбрионы каду в этого героя. What happened to Ethan, Mia and Rosa Winters?/Что случилось с Итаном, Мией и Розой Уинтерс?
The victory over the changed Miranda did not become a triumph for Ethan, as she turned into a huge embryo filled with anger and sorrow. He needed to be dealt with. Finally. For this, Chris Redfield had already prepared everything: powerful charges were installed around the perimeter of the village and in the caves where the megamycelium itself rested. In order to make sure that this "infection" will never see the white light again, Ethan takes the detonator from Chris and heads to Miranda's embryo. Finally, he gives his comrade an assignment - to save his family at any cost. At the end of the scene, we see only the embryo against the background of the detonator, which Ethan will soon rush to use. This lets the players know that the father of the Winters family is dead, this time for good.

But it is not so. In the final video, as the car with Rosa and Chris Redfield's agent leave the cemetery, we can see a male silhouette approaching the passenger door. If at this moment in the game we turn on the “photo mode” and zoom in on the camera, then we will see Ethan Winters himself, who, it would seem, died during the destruction of the megamycelium and Miranda.

The grown-up Rosa looks pretty good, and, most likely, everyone also has inhuman abilities. In a dialogue with Chris's agent, who called her "Evelina", the girl tries to intimidate him with her power, thereby confirming our theory. But what if there is truth in the agent's words? What if Miranda managed to complete the ritual and place the consciousness of her daughter, Eve, into Rosemary's body? This theory may seem much more plausible than it seems to us at first glance.

As for Mia Winters, this is the most mysterious character in Resident Evil Village, who has received very little attention. Miranda stole Mia from her own house, pretended to be Mia, and took Rose. She did not kill the girl, but kept her in captivity, in her laboratory next to the megamycelium cave. Mia survived and escaped along with Rosa and Chris Redfield, but we don't know anything more about this character.

Но это не совсем так. В финальном видеоролике, когда автомобиль с Розой и агентом Криса Редфилда покидают кладбище, мы можем заметить мужской силуэт, приближающийся к пассажирской двери. Что касается Мии Уинтерс, то это самый загадочный персонаж в Resident Evil Village, которому было уделено очень мало внимания. The "Hunting Dogs" or "Hounds of Wolves" squad is a paramilitary organization founded in the 2020s under the leadership of a B.S.A.A. Captain Chris Redfield. While the soldiers in this unit were BSAA trained fighters, the unit itself existed outside of its control and was effectively a pariah.

Their mission is to kill Mother Miranda and destroy her cult, and evacuate Ethan, Mia, and Rosemary Winters.
