How to Run Terraria in Linux! (Super Easy) (WINE)
By allahu
There are a lot of us that use linux. We love terraria but without linux support, it becomes irritating. However, I have managed to get Terraria working in Linux under wine!

All you need is:
Wine 1.7.X
Microsoft .Net package 3.5 and 4
The Microsoft XNA package.

Make sure you have downloaded the complete wine from either Ubuntu Software Center or other alternatives.

Step 1:

Download wine, install it before hand. Then go and download the WINDOWS version of steam (Has a extension ".exe" or .msi) From there, log in verify all the things you need to and start downloading terraria.

Step 2:

While thats downloading you want to go to your "Configure Wine" and should come up with a XP or 98 looking window.

Click on graphics. Then check the first box (Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows.

Step 3:

Once Terraria has finished, Install .NET and XNA setups you have just downloaded. Terraria relies on these!

Run Terraria and everything should work!

Enjoy!

This also works with games like CS:GO except they don't need XNA or .NET!

@webanck - Could you explain how your solution is more straightforward than just installing wine via repos? I don't doubt that it has benefits, I just started following and it looks -only- more convoluted than simply installing wine. Sorry if this sounds harsh - I legitimately am just interested to know what the pitfalls of installing wine manually and running steam that way are vs. your docker build.

Hello guys! I developped something to run windows games on steam through wine with the help of Docker. It's easy and works very well with Terraria and it's totally free! :)

Terraria does take a while to load.. Make sure you installed the XNA Framework (executeable), .NET executeable and if you want, DirectX9. You don't really need DX9 as it ships with Wine but its always nice to have it installed!
