connect your headphones to ur pc (NO SPEAKERS OR ELSE U ARE DUMB)

turn off ur lights (be a real gamer)

boot up the game and hit new game. once you have the difficulty selection menu, hit difficult (the other ones aren't real)

step 4 (IMPORTANT DO NOT SKIP)

once you are in game, you MUST and i mean MUST do the following: once you get past the intro with the cool hl1 graphics and can walk around, grab ur phone, go to any music streaming service you use (spotify, apple music, etc) and look up an artist called Bladee. Once you have found them, play every single one of their songs until you finish the game. Cry of Fear takes place in Sweden so this adds more immersion trust me

congrats ur finally ready to play cry of fear. just remember to play EVERY single Bladee song (and the ones featuring him) and you should be fine. also walking helps with enemies (no joke they can't hit u if u keep walking)
