You will only need to do this once.

When first starting up the game; go through the menus with the Touch Screen:

1. Language - English
   
2. List of countries I could not scroll through to choose US, so I chose Australia
   
3. Choose OK on the User Agreement

I tested this using a PlayStation 5 Dual Sense Controller. This seems to skip the Black Screen bug entirely, taking you straight to the game. Touching the Touch Screen doesn't do anything nor pressing the buttons on the Steam Deck. So hold on to your controller to fix the resolution.

If the game is not Black or Frozen, but the graphics or resolution is messed up, then skip to the Screen Resolution Fix step.

You will need to do this every time you want to play without a controller/VRHS.

Once you get to the Black Screen:

1. Touch and hold your finger on the Touch Screen.
   
2. While holding your finger on the Touch Screen press the Steam button.
   
3. Once the Steam menu shows up, lift your finger off the Touch Screen.
   
4. Press the Steam button again to close the Steam Menu to go back to the game.
   The Konami screen should show up immediately.
   
5. Do not Touch the Touch Screen again.

Touching the screen will cause the game to not respond or freeze. Do the Black Screen fix again, to regain control. You can perform this fix anytime you think the game is not responding. Even during the initial Black Screen fix.

You may have noticed that the resolution is too small. Giving a close up of the Title Screen. I have created a blind button press guide here to go through the menus. This is only an issue for first time installs. After setting the proper resolution, the game should save this setting the next time the game is booted up.

While at the Title Screen Menu Options. It is very easy to get lost there since the Menu can loop around. So be extra careful when making movements and selections. If you get lost; The only way to get back to the default position is to restart the game. You can try and select an option to see what it is, back out, and press up or down to select a different one, but it can get a bit confusing.

These steps are assuming you don't have a Save File as this is your first time booting up the game after a fresh first time install. I added an alternate step 3 if you somehow have a Save File because this adds a LOAD GAME option to the list of Title Screen Options.

Step 3 Note:

Press DOWN 2 times if you have no Save File.
OR
Press DOWN 1 time if you have a Save File.


Hover means the current position of your cursor.

The buttons are of the Physical Steam Decks Layout:

1. Press 3 lines button --------------------------- (Exits the Title Screen Cinematic)
   
2. Press A --------------------------------------- (Opens up the Title Screen Menu Options)
   
3. • Press DOWN 2 times from New Game --- (Hovers Option Menu if you have NO Saved Game)
   OR
   
   • Press DOWN once from Load Game ---- (Hovers Option Menu if you have a Saved Game)
4. Press A --------------------------------------- (Selects Option Menu)
   
5. Press UP once -------------------------------- (Hovers Display Menu)
   
6. Press A --------------------------------------- (Selects Display Menu)
   
7. Press DOWN 2 times ------------------------ (Hovers Resolution)
   
8. Press A --------------------------------------- (Selects Resolution)
   
9. Press and Hold LEFT until you don't hear anymore "ticking" noises. (You are moving the selection all the way to the lowest possible resolution)
   
10. Press RIGHT 5 times ------------------------ (To reach and hover 1280x720)
    
11. Press A --------------------------------------- (Selects Resolution 1280x720)
    
12. Press A ---------------------------------------- (Asks if you want to Apply this change)
    
13. Press UP ------------------------------------- (Hovers YES - You have 10 seconds to do this)
    
14. Press A --------------------------------------- (Confirms if you want to keep the changes - You have less than 10 seconds to do this)
    
15. Press B 2 times ------------------------------- (Backs you out to the Title Screen Menu)

The Black Screen is actually the first moment the game initializes and most likely the black portion of the Konami animation screen, but first it must look for touch input or (my theory) VR input to keep it going.

The game seems to only work while the Touch Screen is being touched. Pressing and holding your finger on the screen and jumping to the Steam menu, probably makes it think you're still touching the screen. I have a feeling this is because it thinks you're running VR.

I have not tested this, but perhaps finding a way to turn off VR will remove the need to do this fix every time you want to play the game.

If you have a Controller Connected, the game seems to run like normal without having to do this fix.
