How to be a Good RP Server Host

This guide was made to help people become good roleplay server hosts. I’ve seen many incapable server hosts, for one reason or another, and want people to not be terrible hosts.

1. Set your Settings

Get used to the settings that you have available for your server. If you can’t find them, they’re in the Match section of the pause menu.

Time of Day: Sets the time, obviously.
Day Length: Sets the length of a day. If set to Infinite, will stay at the time set forever.
Sun Elevation: Doesn’t matter much lol
Sun Direction: Doesn’t matter much lol
Weather: Weather can change the scene entirely on some maps. Use wisely.
Max Vehicles Per Player: Set this to like 5 or so. Helps with lag.
Max Bricks Per Vehice: ALWAYS SET THIS. This not only prevents lag, but makes it so people can’t spawn vehicles that crash the server. I set it to 1500, but the max you should ever set it to is 2500.
Vehicle Auto Removal Delay: If you set this, also set the Maximum Dummies per Server setting so people can keep their buildings.
Allow Invincibility: Enables and disables god mode and pinning.
Allow Teleportation: Enables and disables teleporting when alive. Players can still teleport by dying and then respawning using free cam.
Allow Weapons: Enables and disables guns, including ones on vehicles.
Allow Explosions: Enables and disables explosions. Grenades will still be usable, they will just delete themselves instead of exploding.
Only Admins Can Spawn Vehicles: ONLY SET THIS IF YOU NEED TO. Allows you to control what people spawn.
Maximum Dummies per Server: Sets the maximum dummies allowed in a server. Set this to double your max players if you want them.
AI Train [Map Specific]: Enables and disables the train on the maps that have it.

2. Moderate well

Use logic when moderating. Make sure how you punish people is fair. AND DON’T ARGUE WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO TROLL. If someone is complaining about someone else to you, it’s probably for a good reason.

If you need to, you can use the map (press M) to view where everything is, and who is in what vehicles, useful when you need to find who’s spawning triangle bombs over and over.

Make a consistent, fair set of rules. You can put these rules in a few easy places:

The description of your server, if you edit the files in Brick Rigs. Won't show you how, but you can.
A rule board in front of the airport/mansion/wherever
A Discord server / Steam group
A link to a website

3. This is a lag-free zone

There’s a key binding to Remove Empty Vehicles, removing any unoccupied vehicles. SET IT. You’ll need it a good bit to run a decent server. It’s useful for quickly helping to decrease lag.

Another way to help decrease lag is to have people use low-brick vehicles. Obviously the lower the brick count, the lower the lag. If you see a super high-detail vehicle, give them a lower-brick vehicle like it, or just ask them to use something with less bricks.

Last but not least, just get a decent damn computer. It doesn't have to be RTX/GTX, you can get anything that'll run most games. And if you're using an average laptop, don't even think about hosting servers. It will lag a lot.

4. When all else fails, restart

If things are going to ♥♥♥♥ beyond what you can handle, you might need to disable vehicle spawning, restart, and deal with it. If there's a lag machine and you can't find it, restart. If there's triangle bombs, restart. If someone's spawning enough nukes to destroy an entire continent, restart. But if it isn't necessary to keep your server from being ruined, don't restart. ONLY RESTART WHEN NECESSARY.

However, DO NOT RESTART TOO MANY TIMES. If you restart too much, people obviously will not like it, and keep in mind there's 7-year old children on here. Those children will throw a fit.

5. Be kind and respectful

First of all, even when people are being jerks, try to still be as nice as you can. Being kind is better than getting your IP leaked or server crashed. And, get this, people won't like you if you're a jerk! I know, it's surprising.

Second, discrimination: Yeah, there's LGBTQ+ people on Brick Rigs. Yeah, there's furries on Brick Rigs. Yeah, there's people of other skin colors, religions, blah blah blah... Just deal with it. As long as they don't act super weird, or are generally despicable people, they're fine

Conclusion

As long as you follow this guide, and aren't a jerk, you'll do (mostly) fine!

It's people like you who deserve to run this game, people who care about its state and longevity, not some 6y/o, in other words: no matter how little this will help the community in the end... thank you for trying...

It's sad to see how far this community has degenerated... A sole few like atomic dude and uncle T who still produce quality builds and content are the last few people standing in the way of the 6y/o apocalypse... I'm sad, both that the game has gone to s*** so badly over the past year and that fluppi hasn't produced anything new or revolutionary since the water physics update

Fun Fact: I do all this in my RP servers and yet no one joins, I set up a working economy and build entire cities with infrastructure but nobody joins because this game has gone to s***. I gave up on this game about a year ago and occasionally come back with the slightest glimmer of hope only to see fluppi hasn't done shit and servers are infested with 6y/o little s****. I try various things like military rps, city rps, battles, conquests, deathmatches, what have you but all I get is immature non-description reading c**** who can't be bothered to read the description and that I have to kick basically the second they join because they want to spawn something against the rules or unrealistic to the situation. I miss the game's peak years back around 1.3 when torchwood was still around, when roleplay servers still had quality over quantity, and camodo hadn't fallen off yet.
