A "What to do?" guide for daily lost Tyrians
By John Showdown
Hello and welcome to my guide!

I often see very technical guides around such as how to maximize your DPS or how to complete that particular collection, but i rarely see practical guides for new players on what to actually do to stock up on their resources efficently.

Let me illustrate you a couple of low intensity, super quick and easy tricks that will help you in the long run and grant you gold and resources.

Introduction and things to know
Before diving into this guide please know all these tips are meant to reach high level players that are still new to the game and are figuring out what to do if they feel lost about which content to discover.

All of these are little farming/gathering tricks that need quite some time to unlock before being available if you're a new player, but will take 10 to 15 minutes to do in total after you've unlocked them and can repeat them daily.

These will help you improve your general material stacks and also grant you some gold! These are not what i consider "content" but, rather, secondary tasks typical of mmos. Not especially necessary to do but also worth doing while waiting for something else!

It doesn't hurt to do these tasks as they literally involve a couple clicks on some objectives, nothing else.
Player House
During your adventures in Tyria you will get access to your Home Instance[wiki.guildwars2.com], a personal place where you can unlock farming nodes depending on how far you've reached certain collections and achievements.

Some unlocked nodes are especially valuable, more than others.

These 2 being my favourites: the Krait Obelisk[wiki.guildwars2.com] and the Garden Plots[wiki.guildwars2.com]

But let's get there first.

Every race's Capital city has their own Player's Home Instance. It doesn't matter if your character is not from that race, you can still enter it as if it was your own.
For example, my main character is a Human Elementalist but i find the Asuran's Home Instance the most comfy and straightforward place where to do my deeds.

It is located in Rata Sum, in this particular place:

The Krait Obelisk has a subtle function which can yeld a very rare and useful material for many purposes: the Charged Quartz Crystal[wiki.guildwars2.com].

It is an Account Bound material (meaning you cannot sell it in the Trading Post) and it's needed for a plethora of high level exotic and ascended gear and even legendary collection items and the Skyscale dragon mount. You can also only craft one of them per day so, as you've probably understood, it is quite precious.

To gather one of the Charged crystals you have to gather 25 "normal" Quartz Crystals[wiki.guildwars2.com] which are scarcely found in a couple of maps[wiki.guildwars2.com] or directly bought from the Trading Post.

As a general note which is valid in A LOT of situations, it is preferable to earn gold by doing any activity and then spending it to buy any needed mats in the TP rather than actively gathering/collecting the material that you need.
Sometimes the time and effort you can put by searching for a specific gathering node is not worth compared to just playing the game and use the gold you've earned by other means.
That depends ofcourse on the situation.

By that means, click HERE[gw2efficiency.com] if you're curious about some famous gathering farm routes.

Garden Plots are a bit more complicated to obtain, but when you've done so, your high level food and utilities needs will be at ease!

After reaching a Chef Skill[wiki.guildwars2.com] level of 425, your character can start the journey to become a Gourmet Chef[wiki.guildwars2.com].
By following the guide on the Wiki and unlocking the collection items that are displayed, you will have access to a personal Garden Plot inside your Home (you can buy 2 more with gems in the Black Lion Trading Company a.k.a. Item Shop).

These will give you the option to plant especially rare plants and vegetables that will come very handy in the long run if you're a Fractal/Dungeon/Raid frequenter but also in WvW!

Crafting the platters that need these kind of ingredients is quite consuming and not very straightforward, but gathering them is also profitable in case you just want to earn more gold.

This is definitely an advanced step in using your Home Instance so don't feel pressured to do so.

As usual you can plant and gather ingredients once a day with just a click (even if some other player made you use their own Garden Plots, you cannot gather from them if you've done so in your Home and viceversa).
Ascended Crafting
From level 400 of your aquired Crafting Skill, you will eventually access to some Ascended materials.
These are very rare, expensive and valuable.

I suggest you to craft these four daily, if possible, as many recipes, collections and legendary journeys requires them.

As usual, they can be crafted only once a day.

Remember the Charged Quartz Crystal?

They are very useful to a lot of recipes and other stuff; however if you, like me, are not interested in the recipes where they're required or if you've simply completed them and want some gold, craft the Grow Lamp[wiki.guildwars2.com]

It required a Jeweler crafting skill of 400 and also having unlocked this recipe[wiki.guildwars2.com] available from a vendor in Dry Top[wiki.guildwars2.com] during a particular event.

The costs to craft it are not cheap but as you can see neither it is its selling value, granting you a nice profit if you've gathered all crafting materials.
Guilds
A Guild is always a nice way of socializing and interacting with other players, but it can also have passive benefits.

You can join multiple guilds at once, represent one of them at a time, but can gather from farming nodes inside them daily from each individual guild you've joined!

This is not an incentive to lurk your guilds just for that very reason, but it's a nice little trick you can get an advantage from.

To enter your Guild Hall, press G and click here:

Eeach type of Guild Hall (a different one per expansion of choice from the Guild Leader) has a tiny spot inside where some gathering nodes are placed.

This depends on the current guild's level of research and newly created guilds don't have those because they need to unlock them first. It surely is a nice feat for your guildmates to have!

Don't forget every Guild Hall has a kind of "bar" where an innkeeper NPC can grant you a permanent passive bonus of your choice[wiki.guildwars2.com]. It's free, just talk to the NPC and select the one you want! Lasts forever until swapped with another bonus.

This is another guild unlock and not available from the beginning.
Time gated vendors
There are quite some vendors that offers daily goods which are convenient to have or just randomly buy to stock up.

Here's a few where i usually buy from:

Pact Supply Network Agent[wiki.guildwars2.com] provides with useful recipes. The vendors travels to different places every day.

Dragonfall's Volatile Magic vendor[wiki.guildwars2.com]: when reaching this map (have to own Living World 4 chapter 6) very close to the starting Waypoint there's a vendor which sells a variety of other tokens and materials for Volatile Magic. You can buy up to 5 of them daily, so i usually go here and stock them up since they are useful in other Chapter's recipes and collections.

Faction Provisioner[wiki.guildwars2.com]: these are peculiar vendor who requires you to bring them specific crafted or bought items to trade with them. They trade a very valuable token used in Legendary crafting: the Provisioner's Tokens. Only useful if you ever wish to commit in crafting Legendary gear.

Daily chests
Jumping Puzzle are some of the contents the game provide! You can love or hate them.

I personally only do them if necessary for some collection or specific achievement, but they indeed have some neat use if you have a spare character which you've parked as "alt".

At the end of each JP there's a daily chest to be collected, resets daily and, the neat part, doesn't require you to do the JP again!

So you can park there one of your least used characters and gather from the chest daily!

Two of the Jumping Puzzles i like to gather from in this way are Wind through the Walls[wiki.guildwars2.com] and Sanctum of Nabkha[wiki.guildwars2.com].

The first one in particular is a End of Dragons Jumping Puzzle which rewards you with Unusual Coins[wiki.guildwars2.com] which are used, among other things, to buy Antique Summoning Stones[wiki.guildwars2.com] (used in crafting of the Aurene's Legendary weapons and only available to buy once per week).

Conclusion
Ok, it might not seem like so, but after reaching this very point in unlocks and collections, these tasks that i've illustrated above REALLY takes around 10 to 15 minutes daily!

The most expensive and time consuming activity is to unlock them, but after doing so you will benefit from it a long time.

Don't forget you also have a whole Daily achievements tab to do if you've ran out of tasks and truly can't get your head on what to do next, but also still feel like playing the game.

Who knows, maybe in doing those you will like some activity in them so much that you will have find your next goal in the game!

The game giving you some many options and being 360° open, sometimes, can get you a bit lost.

Hope you will find your path again and that you've enjoyed my guide!

See you in Tyria later!

Thanks. I think a lot of the daily achievements part is redundant now since Secrets of the Obscure's new achievements system but i might be wrong

Solid guide for new players, although all the daily ascended crafting except for mithril actually loses you money, still a good idea to have 20 or so banked up in case you need them for crafting yourself.

For more alt park spots and item/currency conversions fast farming community website is a great source.
