Step 1.
Right Click on your steam library install --> go to Properties --> Local Files --> Browse.
Step 2.
Go to Data - > Ships -> Destroyers -> Talon.xml ; Open with notepad or your text editor of choice.

Change its health to something far lower but not so low it gets insta gibbed by your ships.

Now optionally go back to Ships -> Corvettes -> Flea.xml and set health to 100 and do the same in Frigates with the Pincer.

ALTERNATIVELY, you can find your own flagship frigate and edit its health to basically be invulnerable, then set it back after this mission.
Congrats
You did it, you beat the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mission thats a massive pain in the ass to beat legitimately (most people say kiting it on the edge of their range is the only way to do it with the Drakes Plasma cannons, However, since the mission basically insta-fails when the fleas show up or one of the ships randomly start attacking the anubis, ♥♥♥♥ that.)

Do I feel shame for this? No, this mission is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that even after hours of attempts with a vast array of fleets worth anywhere between 2~10 mil every time ended in failure, ♥♥♥♥ this mission, it should come after you get your own Destroyer, or at least allow you to take in multiple Frigates.

On my first playthrough I did this mission with a Drake, sitting just outside of the talons range. It took forever. Lured Pincer and Talon away from Anubis, so the Fleas didn't attack the Anubis. Took several reloads

Then I encountered the Lamprey (tractorbeam). And the Lancer with 8000 range torpedoes.
Tractor beam can be used to pull enemies and even be save own ships or AI ships.

On the Second playthrough I brought: Upgraded Lancer with tractor beam and railguns, 15 HoundMk2, 10 Bullfrogs, 6 Droppers

I finished it now in 3 additional ways:

1. Only with the Lancer torpedoes and tractorbeam.

Use tractor beam to pull pincer away, boost away, come to a halt with gravity drive and kill if from outside it's range with torpedoes.

2. Only with fighters and the Bullfrogs and Lancer just to tank damage. Even faster iirc
Bulfrogs murder all ships and Hounds are cannon fodder.

3. Only with the Droppers/Teardrop drones. A bit slower

4th option would be all combined

was interested in how hard it would be,

Can confirm, Horus can tank this with cycling defensive actives for a long, long while.

using 4 other corvettes to *switch* activate missiles repeat erased the escorts very quickly.

lost 2 fighters and accidentally blew it up the first time. its damage is great if you're not piloting the ship its targeting.

It's a tough mission, but I think it's fairly doable honestly. Took me somewhere between 5-10 tries the first time, although on replay I'm able to do it fairly consistently even without the DLC game breaking stuff.

The trick is to take the Horus with boosted Thrust and Engines (it's probably not worth using the other frigates for this mission), and hang right at the edge of the destroyers range while you and your fleet focus fires the escorts. Once the destroyer is the only thing that's left, your frigate is just a big damage sponge. You got to just soak damage while being able to move out of the destroyer's range once things get dicy. If you brought a high damage fleet, it should be able to handle the rest of the mission by just ordering them to attack the destroyer and then ordering them to back off when needed.

lame forgot to mention that it took three tries to get through it, I killed the Talon on the first go and they got the Anubis on the second go, so I do feel your pain, I definitely tried many more times on the first run through

Honestly I think you should check out more of the upgrade options for your corvettes, some of the corvettes with over drive are so fun for fighting things that this mission was actually quite doable and even fun, I tried using an anubis and flew around to the other side of the area to pull the other ship off and then start chipping away at the talon with the missiles, and my fleet didn't help at all until he was at 50% health, it was not super fast but it was not super lame or painfull either, and it gave me an excuse to try out more of the corvette options, (overdrive is OP)
