1. Find a safe place near the beacon

3. drink focus potion after respawn

4. pick up the memory shards

5. repeat step 2 - 4

You can use a forgotten feather to get all of your shards back and then kill yourself, use the potion and bam, way more shards per death. just be careful, after I hit max level my shards turned to -1,000,000 but dying again brought my total back to 0.
