do you also think the character names in the game are a bit limited and repeat far too often?
Yes? Well then you're in luck.

I dug through the game files a little recently and realized the names for the player characters are picked randomly from simple .txt lists. Three in total. Surnames, female and male given names. So I've taken it upon myself to add a bit of variety to these.

I tried to keep the names in the "Old English" spirit of the originals, though there are some more modern ones in the first names for flavour.

For now I have finished the Surnames and Females. Male given names will be added during the next couple of days.

Either right click Banners of Ruin in your games library -> manage -> open local files

or navigate to Steam -> steamapps -> common -> BannersOfRuin

the files you're looking to change are under BannersOfRuin_Data -> StreamingAssets

Open the file Surnames.txt in the folder I stated above.

Delete all the entries, they are included in my list.

Mark and copy everything out of this document into the surnames.txt file.
Feel free to add any surnames of your own you'd like to see in game, of course.

Just make sure to keep the format exactly the same. One name per line.
