Gear to Use, Skills to Build For
Album of General Recommended Builds[imgur.com]

If you can't build these sets exactly, just take note of these skills.

WEAPON AUGMENTS
- Health: Gives you lifesteal, synergizes very well with offensive skills.
- Affinity: Better than attack augment if you can't reach 100% affinity otherwise
- Attack: More damage if you already are capped on affinity
- Element: More damage for bow and dual blades

OFFENSIVE SKILL PRIORITY
1. Weakness Exploit
2. Critical Boost
3. Agitator
4. Critical Eye
5. Attack Boost

DEFENSIVE SKILL PRIORITY
1. Health Boost 3 (mandatory)
2. Divine Blessing (ONLY WITH DIVINE BLESSING SECRET FROM GOLDIAN ARMOR)
3. Evade Window

UTILITY SKILLS
- Any weapon specific skills
- Clutch Claw Boost
- Heavy Artillery (Make sure it's not just 'Artillery')
- Flinch Free (MANDATORY IN MULTIPLAYER)

Note that Fatalis is immune to stun.
What About My Palico?
Should you even bring your palico to the Fatalis hunt? Here are some pros and cons.
PROS:
-Gadgets can slightly tip the fight in your favor
-Palico can take aggro off of you
-Can apply a status effect (paralyze is best)

CONS:
-Will make some tactics impossible or difficult, such as smoke bombing or cone baiting
-Fatalis will become more unpredictable when targeting palico

Ultimately, bringing your palico will come down to personal preference.

Palico Equipment:
Armor literally doesn't matter for your palico, just choose whatever you think looks nice.
I recommend a status effect weapon for your palico as it's pretty good at proccing status ailments, and paralysis works well for both solo and multiplayer.
Items to Bring
Against Fatalis, every second counts! You simply do not have the time to be chugging down a mega potion, or similar. Therefore, it's important to bring items that are quick to use and highly effective.

Max / Ancient Potions and materials to make more
Great Sushifish Scales (Heals about 1/2 HP instantly)
Whetfish Fin+
Smoke Bombs and materials to make more
Farcaster
Power/Armor Charms/Talons
Mega Demondrug
Might Seeds

Do note that Fatalis is immune to flash pods.
Do's and Don'ts of the Hunt
DO:
-Position yourself close to and in front of Fatalis whenever possible
-Focus head and chest, as they take the most damage
-Be patient above all, learn Fatalis' attacks and how to punish them

DON'T
-Use the cannons at all
-Spam Dragon Pods to flinch Fatalis
-Mount Fatalis in multiplayer

first i thank you for the compact yet very useful guide its pleasing to the eye
secondly do you really think there is hope for fools like me ?
i have tried fatty idk how many times and i have not been able to solo him even once !
all my fatty runs i just got carried by the pros who did fatty sessions but i reaaaaally wish to solo the big bastard at leastt onceeee ffs
and one more question regarding the guide : does evade window really make a difference ? specially against fatty ? i just dont understand how the evade thing works properly :steamsad:

If I would add anything, it's that practice makes perfect. Every movement Fatty does is a sign for his next, and understanding his head placement is absolutely key, especially during breath and bite attacks, which can allow for some great damage if the moment presents itself (And the hitboxes aren't too wonky). If you cart, don't worry too much. Ive fought him what feels like a thousand times, and I know him inside and out, but I will still die, and thats ok. Otherwise, never get discouraged, because no matter the effort it takes, no matter how many attempts you fail, you will overcome this wall, THAT IS the proof of a hero. Keep fightin' the good fight. Good Luck fellow hunters!

i see,i've watched multiple vids, through all my watches speedrunner always open with clutch claw tenderizing into enraging the fatalis, but i guess you will need to know all the moves only to do that i suppose?i just done the alatreon so ftalis will be my last mission,i also have seen several vids with cannon opening managed to get faster time clear as well, although the fastest would be clutch claw opening and activate agitator asap but from my perspective you would have to know well fatalis moves to do so

Good question! The answer is no; there is no weapon that benefits from the cannon opening strategy because the damage loss from setting up the cannons is just THAT high. If you want an easy method to get guaranteed TCS windows, try cone baiting. If you want something more advanced, watch GS speedruns and take note of the TCS openings. You'll be surprised to find just how many Fatalis actually has.

wouldn't it depend on weapon at all?i main GS would cannon strait be best for it? since the cannon net about 4500 damage and landing tcs should be around 2000 more damage
