Brief Intro
There is only one map. Once inside the caves, the underground path is revealed, and once in the surface, the forest map is shown. But watching both maps (surface + cave), and placing them in overlay, I noticed there was a distance regarding entrances/exits, as if they were a few steps away. Therefore I had to use individual images and stretch them to improve its accuracy - when possible. Last, been some time I made it, but decided to share it now, with bits of information. Hope it helps.ʟɪᴋᴇs ᴀɴᴅ ғᴀᴠs ♥ are appreciated. Good gaming!

Starting
After the plane crash, search for trays with meals to help to recover health. Can also find meds, soda, a list of all passengers-crew, a tray for exchanging items (for multiplayer) and the plane axe. Depending where it crashed, height/position, you may go back inside, use it as shelter, until building a base. If you cannot reach it, open the Survival Book, check the stairs building. Keep in mind, natives may also enter. Passenger bags may be looted (broken with the axe) to find more items. Brief starting tips:

  • If finding tennis balls in suitcases, discard them. They could be used as incendiary weapon, however lightening them, also harms the player. It's not possible to move them to inventory, and rarely they work as an effective distraction.
  • Creating campfires may also attract cannibals to your location.
  • To get the flight attendant dress, harvest the body. May also find clothes in suitcases.
  • Wash yourself in a lake, to remove the blood (see also Sanity at Building Tips & More).
  • In settings, Gameplay, Colour Grading: texas and modern seems the best to brighten the night and caves (at least for PC players).
  • In settings, on Display: world and night brightness, set to maximum. Same with caves and night brightness.
  • To see the bottom of the sea clearly, and also submarine entrance caves, in Settings, change Ocean Quality to FLAT. It helps a lot to see everything, including sharks.

COMBINING ITEMS

[1]. Opening the inventory (key i on PC), and selecting an object to the handkerchief center, a gear appears. Point to the gear to show a list of all crafting items with that object.
[2]. To set Keys 1 to 4 (quick access menu), select the backpack, and select the object of interest to combine. Press the desired number to set it.
[3]. The Survival Book also gives a tutorial on how to combine, at the second page, the yellow tabs, in Crafting - Gear Icon.

SINGLE OR MULTIPLAYER
Single player is advised for the first run, will be more immersive, systematic, and easier than multiplayer. When there is a team to help each other, build faster, gather more resources, a larger number (hordes) of enemies appears to balance the game. Multiplayer is fun with friends, may get achievements, but alone, it's serious play. Also, it's recommended to host games in private, with trusted players. Last, in multiplayer, fallen players need to recover their backpack where a skull icon appears.

Remember to save your game progress from time to time.

⚫ Overlay Map
This map is part of a video, I show how to interpret it, but not the underground caves to avoid spoilers - caves are also the stars of the game - besides the information bellow covers most of it.
Greenish-blue areas: ocean
Blue areas: main lake
Yellow: rock wall entrances
Purple: ground entrances

Another Map I made in 2022, and found lately (update 2025)

Caves - Part I
If not having a map, the high snow mountain is NORTH. The end of main-lake is south.

Before exploring caves, get a full supply of leaves, sticks, food, molotovs, booze and fabric (to create more molovos), water, health & energy mixes, a basic bow + plane axe. It will suffice to defend yourself, at first. Fabric is good to combine with weapons, either to brighten the environment and use as defense, if running out of Molotovs, create new ones using booze+fabric. Some caves are 'easy' but others may have surprises; better be prepared.
My youtube Cave Locations Youtube Video.

  • Dead Cave connects to: Wet Cave and Ledge Cave
  • Hanging Cave connects to: Baby Cave
  • Chasm Cave connects to: Sinkhole (hell cave)
  • Waterfall Cave connects to: Lawyer Cave
  • Submerged Cave: no connection

    D E A D _ C A V E

Has three entrances, two nearby at the south-west hill, and a rock wall entrance. Advise to visit it first, also known as Katana cave. It's close to the big lake, on the west-south side. The ground entrance is easy to find. Descending the cave, and climbing the 1st rope, do not go right to a mutant direction, move to the left tunnel, following wooden floor boards. Findings: passengers, cassette 5, clues, money, booze, Timmy's body part, flashlight, watches, coins, soda, circuits, Katana sword, fabric, dynamite, and fuel.

If going right (where a mutant is), after some walking, there's path division (blue containers). Going straight ahead, break a wooden barricade, a skull totem with a camera and roots from the ceiling, that's the rock wall exit. if moving right however (where the blue containers are), to a flooded area, more suitcases and soda can be found. Two wooden barricades can be seen, breaking it a large area is revealed. Moving down (ahead), and descending a long rope, after some walking a wall connection, leads to the Wet Cave. However, If moving up (left), there will be another large area with a tents, ropes, gas, fabric, clues, and a rope leading to the surface: it's the second exit from Dead Cave. A reminder, once inside the Wet Cave is possible to explode a narrow passage leading to the Ledge Cave. IMPORTANT! There is also a narrow passage between the 2 wooden barricades and the large flooded area with suitcases, this passage leads to the sinkhole, it contains dynamite, which can be used to open the Ledge Cave entrance.

    H A N G I N G _ C A V E

Also at the south-west, first ground entrance located at the main village, close to a tennis player and a skull totem. Findings: compass, the map, hairspray (used as flamethrower), modern axe, dynamite, flares, rope, soda, medication, paint, 2nd flashlight, more clues. The catch in this area, it's to find the stash path, behind a round rock, it can't be noticed at first, but needs to be climbed, and from there is possible to reach the secret stash. NOTE: in this Main Village, in one box inside a hut may find explosives.

After descending a small rope, moving straight ahead, to a narrow passage, in a path division. Can go straight ahead, or move left. In the left area do not go into the floor boards. Instead look for the small entrance with a skull-lamp hanging. That is the entrance of the Baby Cave (see Baby Cave for more details).
If following straight ahead, descending, where a bench-like and worker's hat are, move left and climb a round rock. This area is tricky, quite large with 3 tunnels.
The middle one leads to the exit. The left one to a big area, with some water, skulls, suitcases, where a division happens again, ignore the left side (it's a circle leading to the same area). Find the one with a skull-lamp, move down, and happy looting.
The last of the 3 tunnels, the right one, with a rock all entrance leads a cave with no exit, just some suitcases and loot.

    W E T _ C A V E

Two entrances, main lake and wall (both are very close). The Lake entrance needs the re-breather and leads to the same starting area as the rock-wall entrance. The wall is near the big lake, on its south-east, there is a fallen tree trunk nearby, camping beds, and tents, some books in the floor. Once descending (needs a small jump), it's not possible to go back, it will be needed to cross all the cave, to leave at the Ledge Cave (ground), where the climbing axe is, a very important item. May also leave at the Dead Cave or the other Ledge Cave exit, close to the Sinkhole. Findings: chainsaw, clues, booze, another part of Timmy's toy, drink, dynamite, gas, and other items.

    S U B M E R G E D _ C A V E

Three entrances, wall, lake and ground. Wall rock entrance is near a Yatch (where more clues and items can be found). Turn your back to the Yatch, walk ahead from the shore to the forest, through this little hill, when on top, turn left. Walk like in a straight line, passing a small pound with fishes, and few meters ahead, where some totems are, the entrance is located. Some bats will appear. Farther ahead the ground entrance is located, can see a large tree at the back. Findings: clues, re-breather, oxygen tanks, rusty axe, energy bars, soda, and more items.
Entering, there's a large area, ahead a wall with crucifixes, break it. A narrow passage, leads to a rope, and another, then the re-breather, also a diving tunnel. This tunnel reveals an area with flares, drinks, snacks. Continuing to dive, the exit is at Geese Lake. One oxygen tank should be enough to cross all path.
Caves - Part II
L E D G E _ C A V E

Three entrances, one by exploding a wall while in the Dead Cave, another at the East side of the Main Lake, also a ground entrance near the Sinkhole to again some tents, this one needs a quick dive, no re-breather needed. Staying with your back to the Wet Cave rock wall entrance, walk north, might see a hill with some yellow containers with flares and arrows inside, near that region, a bit to the east, may find two tents, the ground entrance is near it. Will find several cannibals and mutant babies. The Ledge Cave needs the Climbing Axe to be explored. Findings: climbing axe, clues and videotape 3.

L A W Y E R S _ C A V E

Two entrances, close to the shore near some containers is the rock wall entrance, and near the Geese Lake, a ground entrance. Stays at the south-west of the Sinkhole. It's has some mutants inside, lots of climbing ropes to reach the exits. Needs the re-breather, and descending, requires two explosives (one after the other) to have access to the Waterfall Cave. Findings: keycard, camcorder, video tape 1 and 2, several passengers, more clues.

W A T E R F A L L _ C A V E
One rock wall and ground entrance, at North-West of the Map, near the Sinkhole, some orange camping tents are around, (also near the 2nd Ledge Cave ground entrance). Going around the Sinkhole is possible to see the ground entrances. Descending several ropes, may find a mutant inside, and a round pond with a boat. Needs the re-breather and explosives (at least two), to explore it. Behind a small wooden barricade, with briefcases inside, starts the Lawyer's Cave. Findings: cassette 3, booze, snacks, rope, lots of camping tents inside for game save, more clues. Can be quite dangerous and large cave, a full inventory is advised.

B A B Y _ C A V E
One ground entrance, near a lake of a small cannibal village, where a pan can be also found. It's on an open area, without trees, going south, at East side of the Yatch. Connects to Hanging Cave through a rock wall entrance, walking up, there is a hanging skull-lamp lightening its path, to a larger area of the Hanging Cave. Can be dangerous. Findings: fuel, cassette 2, clues, rope, booze, other items.

C H A S M _ S I N K H O L E _ C A V E

Endgame cave. Walk the isthmus to the North to find the rock wall entrance, in the woods ahead. After opening several stone doors, it leads to Sinkhole (or Hell Cave). Several mutants and regular cannibals will be seen here. Needs re-breather, climbing axe, and explosives. Be prepared for a Boss fight. Findings: tennis racket, 3rd flashlight, Timmy’s toy hand and left foot, videotape 4, modern bow, two other clues. Five passengers (or more).

Pass several bodies, break two wood barricades, descend to the bottom of the cave, find an orange tent, save gave, move ahead to another barricade, to a large cave. Divides in three pathways, a flooded tunnel with a generator, a totem corridor, and a tiny corridor with a skull-lamp. Going the totem way, break the barricade, swim to the other side and explode the wall. Pass the 1st and 2nd Stone Gate. Cross the stone bridge. Last gate opens to Sinkhole. Dive into the lake for closure. If returning to the large cave, following to the skull-lamp area, another flooded tunnel is seen (leading to a small stash), and a cave with 2 tents and wall drawings. Moving back the large cave, and flooded tunnel with a generator, it leads to a cave with the Modern bow and tents, plus objects.

A R T I F A C T _ C A V E
Will only be revealed, in the end, depending the decision of the player (it's near the cockpit).

Other Locations
YATCH
Large boat at the southern coast, with a save-sleep point inside. It does have sharks around it thus caution is advised. Diving where the Yatch is, to the corals at the bottom, is possible to find OYSTERS. Also at the shore, there are several suitcases, and a cross/grave, and on it, more clues. Nearby is the Submerged Cave, and the area is frequently patrolled by cannibals. Findings: fabric, snacks, soda, booze, oxygen tank, skull, rope, cassette player, cassette 1, an artifact, golden card, picture of Virginia, other clues.

O C E A N _ C A V E S

There are three submarine caves, with four blue prints and a Crossbow. Re-breather is needed. One is the Destroyed Boat, or Shipwreck, near an island at the south close to an Anchor. A board is floating on top of each cave (see image detail). Another cave, the Kanji Cave is close to a tiny island, near some shore buildings (or Crocodile hunting huts), 2 blueprints will be found there. It's the nearest island when looking in the direction of the containers, keeping your back to the North mountains. Last, the Coastal Cave at the very south. Where the Main Lake ends, create a small raft and move to right, going north, close to some tiny islands (3rd of 4th), it's possible to see the entrance. Again, don't forget to set ocean quality to flat, in settings, to reach these caves.

PLANE COCKPIT
At the very north, part of the aircraft can be found, temperature is very low, carry a stick with fabric, and lit to warm while walking. Findings: Flare Gun and an outfit. The snow region is one players may find rabbits and boars for the warm suit.

CAMPING AREAS
Walking around the map, at the shore and also the forest (near the rock wall entrance of the Hanging Cave for example), it's possible to find some camping tents with some items, like rope, clues, booze, drinks, a pan to obtain tree sap.
⚫ The Forest Story
2025 Edit. May change the story a bit, I’m investigating; found incredible clues about the real story behind both games. This is what I can reveal for now.

THE PAST
A long time ago, when explorers traveled through the seas, searching new lands, taking with them missionaries, monks to teach Christianity, one crew decided to visit a certain peninsula. The land seemed promising, but something was unsettling, and as they explored the surroundings and endless tunnels inside caves, they found symbols of a tall red man along with other small humans, and the mage of an pyramidal obelisk, which fascinated them. But as they continue investigating the island, they found a deadly creature, of many legs and arms. To stop the inhuman being and the attacks, the missionaries did what they knew at the time, created barricades in caves, sealing entrances with crosses to detain evil. It's unsure however, if they ever found the artifact and used it, or if the missionaries left the island to tell their findings, or if their ship sank, staying forever in the island…

PRESENT
Many years later, Sahara Therapeutics bought the island, knowing about the obelisks, one which could revive the dead. They managed to activate the technology, however as a trading mechanism, one living must be sacrificed in order to a dead regains life. Sadly, oblivious about the artifact origins, they can't imagine depending on the nature, the soul and thoughts of a subject submitted, their flesh and bones will multiply, mutate, matching the feelings within. Teachings yet to be discovered in another island…Yet they test the artifact, human subjects being used as experiments (later Sahara was legally charged for such conducts and human torture), presenting physical reactions and mutations; some continue as humans but witless, losing speech, only screaming or laughing, which they released in the island to their luck. It is later possible to see them running and rolling in the grass through the island.
Meanwhile, Mathew Cross, a scientist from Sahara, had a divorce quarrel with his wife, who wanted the guard of their ill daughter. Mathew however had other plans, when his wife mysteriously died, bringing Megan Cross to the island, who tragically gets killed by an escaping armsy. Knowing the power obelisk could crash a plane, and aware Sahara was closing down the project, Mathew (who also had his contract terminated) activates it one last time. Then painting himself as red (to match the red man images in caves), he wandered in the woods, calmly getting Timmy LeBlanc, without being attack by any natives. The plan worked, Megan was revived, but it’s clear in one of her drawings, the portrait of him as an angry or evil red man, showed her discontent with her father, thus stabbing and killing him with crayons. Her transformation reflected the outcome of an unhappy life. Eric LeBlanc fortunately finds most clues, in order to save son, but there are many more to uncover…
Final Tips & Info

FENCES: wood is the first option, given by the Survival Book, but pilling rocks as a second wall, on its side, will give extra strength for defenses. The rocks+spikes are also very important, increases strength significantly, at least 3 times.

TREE HOUSES: even if building destruction is -off- in settings, to avoid falling trees destroying fences by accident, a mutant will easily damage a tree, destroying any construction in it. Always protect the tree if a house was built.

WINDOWS: if not having yet defenses, avoid campfire inside the house, and quietly move away from windows, as cannibals will observe fire and movement. (I wish we had curtains!)

SAVING GAME: If not having a Temporary Shelter to save game, a bed, or a Hunting Shelter, the Small or Large Cabin are recommended, serving as base for 2-3 players, and both having save-sleep points. Huge, large bases will need a bed, at least one, so all players can save their game.

BUILD A BIRD HOUSE: having lots of bird houses, will constantly provide a good amount of feathers to create arrows. Killing birds may also give an achievement, but the meat and feathers won't be enough.

EFFIGIES: only appears after a while, when a player killed and dismembered several cannibals. Check 2nd page of Survival Book. Can build from a simple to a complex one, and place fire, which burns for several hours. The goal of effigies is to scare cannibals(?), like a territory.

ANIMAL TRAP: if placed in land, has one shape, if placed in the water, turns into fish trap.

WEAPONS STAND: the Survival Book, shows a tree trunk if placed in the floor, but moving the ghost to a wall, it turns into two hooks to display weapons.

LOGS, ROCKS, STICKS HOLDER: the Survival Book shows only the simple/smaller version, once the ghost is placed in the ground however, look for the "reverse or change" symbol (two arrows), pressing it, a larger container will show.
Ghosts are the colorful hologram-like placement, that indicates what's being constructed, can also change color on Settings.

ANIMAL HEADS: if you can’t place it as a wall trophy, you may store them into a catapult, until you find a place. Animal reads can’t be removed after placed, but can be destroyed.

COLD: increases energy cost, however LISTENING MUSIC recovers energy. Also recovers energy sitting on a bench.

ENEMIES: a pale cannibal will appear in the surface approximately from 6-7 days, they are usually armed with incendiary tennis balls. Armsy and Virginia (mutant spider lady) around 8-12 days and Fatman around 14 days, but it’s quite relative in multiplayer. More than one mutant may appear. Cannibals defeated in caves don’t re-spawn, they can’t swim or climb ropes. When in panic, climb a rope. They don’t dodge traps either. May ignore players inside bases if lights are off, and everything is quiet. Molotovs, explosives and incendiary arrows, as the flare gun, are good weapons to defeat mutants. Last, Armsy can destroy trees and fences quite easily, same with Virginia, who can also jump. She can even spawn babies to counter-attack. Fatman can be dodged by running from him, in circles as well; remember to have energy mixes in inventory.

SANITY: players start with 100% and can reach zero, which can interfere with certain actions. After a certain decrease it's possible to see the EFFIGIES blueprints. Insanity increase when having blood for long periods (not washing yourself), killing cannibals, dismembering them, eating their limbs, and staying inside caves for long periods. Sanity can be increased by sleeping, eating plants or animal meat, listening music, sitting in chairs to restore stamina.

HEALTH & ENERGY MIX: coneflower, aloe vera, marigold and chicory are plants/flowers that when combined, restores health or stamina. Advised to plant them in the base, for regular access, and assign one slot of the quick menu for a mix. Marigold and Aloe can be found at south-east, also at the north-west forest. Aloe also near the Crocodile hunting huts area at north-east. Coneflower near the Ledge Cave entrance at the east of the main lake.

Developer Mode
I didn’t want to include this since may seriously spoil the experience, and ruin gaming skills. But for those needing help on rebuilding bases fast, recover items, or any other issue, there is the Developer mode, allowed by the game itself, known as cheat codes.

For it to work, go to Settings, Game Play and select: allow cheats: on
Then go to Main Menu (there is no place to actually write), just type developermodeon (all together no spaces), then press enter. To test if is active, press F1, on your top-left screen this message is shown: $> togglerworkscheduler.
Start a game, press F1, then type a desired command. F1 will enable the console. If the game freezes, the F1 was pressed by mistake (check to see if there is a $> on top of the screen). The useful commands for building are:

Buildhack on: just place a ghost and may build without resources.
Buildallghosts: build all placed ghosts
Cancelallghosts: removes all placed ghosts
Regrowmode: fallen trees will regrow (at least 10%) as long as the stump is still intact.
Speedyrun on + Godmode on. Attention! Must be activated together, as super speed will give the character the ability to jump hills and get hurt.
Godmode on: gives 100% health and stamina constantly.
Cavelight on: for bright light inside caves, stays active outside caves, like a flashlight.
To turn off any command, repeat the command with off: cavelight off.
Save: as it says, saves the game without any shelter.
additem [ID]: write in the console "additem 78" (without the quotes), to get logs of wood. Changing the number at the end or ID, will add a different item to inventory. To add all items write "addallitems", and to remove everything "removeallitems."

Final Notes

This is it for the moment. I tried to be as concise as possible, hope it helps your gameplay.
