Fen's Guide to Agartha
By FenrirG
Greetings, this guide will be a collection of general information I've gathered during my playtime, alongside some tips and my personal preferences. I hope it will be a useful starting point for new players.

1.0 Launch Edit: This guide, at the moment, is a work in progress as I update it for v1.0.

Default Gear and Replacement of the Freebooter
Playing as a Freebooter used to mean not risking any of your own gear. Freebooters used to join an ongoing game with junk level gear and that was how someone would recover if they lost everything they had in their stash.

Now with the v1.0 the Freebooter gameplay was removed and instead whenever you lose your gear by dying or failing to extract your character starts with a set of default gear. What you get as your default gear depends on the class you've selected.
Expedition/Extraction
The expeditions last 30 minutes. If you fail to extract within that time, you die and lose everything. You will get an in-game announcement for 10 minutes remaining, for 5 minutes warning and every minute afterwards. For the last 10 minutes or so the sun will start setting and it will be night time until the end of the expedition. Night time is bad.

You have a single extraction point on the island and with the v1.0 you can easily find your way to it by following the minimap, the extraction point is marked with a campfire icon.
NPCs
Below is the list of NPCs from before the v1.0 release. I will update this to match the current layout of the lobby in the near future.
  • KWAHU (Barkeeper): Sells food and food related stuff.
  • OJORE (Weaponsmith): Weapons, weapon kits, weapon recipes etc..
  • STRAPS (Armorsmith): Armor related stuff and refining ingredients like acid solvent, fluxing agent etc..
  • GOTTO (Scholar): Runes and seals for equipment enchantments.
  • BUANA (Alchemist): Medical and alchemy stuff.
  • CHING (Shipmaster): Bags, drinks.
Crafting Stations
There are 4 crafting stations: Cooking, Equipment, Artificer and Alchemy stations. You will learn what I know about crafting by following the quests. So I don't have much to say here except:

You can find pages containing recipes and if you complete a set you can craft them into a single slot book in the artificer station to save space.

The pages are not required for the crafts themselves so they are obsolete if you already know what you need or look up recipes online. While interacting with a station, just above your inventory, there is a button that lets you access your stash so you don't have to pull materials into your inventory everytime you want to craft something.

There are two things I've noticed after the v1.0 release (though I don't know when they were actually updated). First, you can now access these crafting stations from anywhere on the island/lobby by hitting the gameplay menu key (default TAB) and going into the 'Crafting' menu. Second and the tutorial actually teaches you this part, you can now see recipes on the bottom left for quick crafting.
Quests
I've noticed a great improvement with how players interact with or complete quests with v1.0 compared to when I played originally, so I have much less to explain here. Receiving/completing quests and even tracking them is much easier if you use the gameplay menu. You can go into Quests menu to track them or to the Traders menu to interact with the traders to receive or turn in quests remotely.

I believe each NPC has a questline and you will have to go through their quests one at a time to increase their level and unlock more of their store. This is how it used to be before v1.0, I didn't notice anything different so far.

I haven't had the time to go through a lot of quests myself since the wipe but I will take notes and share my solutions here if I find any quests that may be less intuitive.

To start the list, I tried to find all the NPCs and noticed Ching and Omar show up next to each other on the minimap however Ching is at the top of the hill (accessed by going to the encampment and exiting through the north gate) and Omar is in a cave below Ching (accessed by the beach, jumping on the rocks and wooden planks)

Ching's location is important because that is where you will find The Captain's Journal and her quests require you to bring the torn pages to the stack of books near her to complete the journal entries.
Container Items
You can buy crates or backpacks from the shops, they have bigger storage space on the inside but other than backpacks these containers can only hold a certain type of item. You can use these to sort your stash or if you are feeling greedy bring one into the raid to fill it up with loot.

Backpacks can hold anything so they would be the best to bring into a raid. The containers go into their special slots in the inventory, you can have 3 containers equipped at a time.
Gear
Below is not updated to matchfor v1.0 but it should still be mostly valid.

The gear stats in this game has some depth to it, I'd say it requires a whole guide dedicated to rarity and tier breakdown. There seems to be some RNG related to items having variety of stats, I'm not sure how tiers or rarity affect these. The stats are mostly self explanatory so I will just tell you the general characteristics.

As far as I can tell there are no set bonuses for wearing one type of armor on each slot, here are the main characteristics of the different types:
  • Light Armor: These will generally reduce projectile and blunt damage while increasing dodge speed and stamina efficiency.
  • Medium Armor: This seems to be bit more rare than the other 2 types or I've been unlucky finding them. They seem to have base damage reduction and broken bones resistance as main stats.
  • Heavy Armor: These will always reduce your dodge speed but provide high blade and some projectile damage reduction. You will also see bleed resistance on some.
  • Shields: Having a shield equipped reduces your move speed and stamina efficiency but increases your block resistance while also letting you block projectiles.

Weapons are easier. Big means slow but more damage, small means fast but low damage. If it's sharp it deals blade damage and has a chance to cause bleeding if not it will deal blunt damage and have a chance to break bones. The crossbows deal projectile damage.

One important thing, the secondary weapon damages are about half of any primary weapon. Even with increased attack speed I do not think they are worth choosing over any primary weapon unless you are using crossbows.

Finally, the clothes have no impact on any stats, you can go in naked and find royal clothes then sell them.
Consumables and Food
Below is not updated to match for v1.0 but it should still be mostly valid.

Potions are good for fast recovery. So far I've only seen healing and energizing potions, they restore health and stamina respectively. 'tincture' is the lowest tier of potion and 'vial' is one higher.

What's more important in my opinion is the food choice. I favor dried fish because it increases the maximum stamina for the duration. My 2nd choice would be dried meat for a similar reason as it increases maximum health for the duration. You can find these in raid or buy them from Kwahu the Barkeeper. Once you start cooking you will find different food with similar buffs. Experiment to find out what works best for you.

I'd recommend carrying one of each and eat both when you are hungry enough then for the next 5 minutes you will be ready to fight with 2 food buffs on you. I usually extract when these buffs wear off. I should warn you if you try to eat too much too soon you will get a debuff that decreases your stamina for 400 seconds.

Medical consumables are self explanatory, if you are bleeding use a bandage and the splints are for broken bones. These debuffs stack so you might need to use multiple meds to completely get rid of them.
Combat
Below is not updated to matchfor v1.0 but it should still be mostly valid.

Combat in Agartha features a Rock Paper Scissor mechanic, in the form of Attack Block Kick, simply put:
Attack is countered by Block
Block is countered by Kick
Kick is countered by Attack (kind of)

Important things to note are:
  • Block alone is not exactly the counter of Attack, if you only Block you will run out of stamina and die anyways. For Block to be effective you need to time it right when the enemy attacks which will turn it into a Parry. Parry will stagger your opponent and allow for counter attacks.
  • Kick will interrupt a charged Attack as well as Block but is ineffective against regular Attack.
  • You can cancel a charged Attack into a Kick or Block
  • The most important thing in a fight, in my opinion, is knowing the reach of your weapon vs. the reach of your enemy's weapon. You will need to experience this yourself to get a feel of it.
  • There is friendly fire so don't hit your friends.

Finally there is the option to Dodge. Dodge beats all.
The dodge key, when pressed alone, will make you dodge backwards. It is possible to dodge sideways by holding a direction key as you dodge. Dodging forward doesn't exist.

You can dodge backwards to create some breathing room to recover stamina or to start running away. Dodging sideways is mostly good to confuse the enemy or to flank them if you outnumber them.

Heavy armor will reduce the speed of your dodge animation and some light armor pieces can increase your dodge speed.
Classes WIP
I've yet to delve into the classes enough to write anything here, this is a placeholder.
More tips and tricks.
I will add any tips or tricks that doesn't fit any of the above points here as I think of them.

Let me know if I've missed anything important or if you have any other useful information you want me to add here.

Thank you for reading and I hope you learned something new here.

I still do not understand how to use a mercenary contract and haven't found a guide that explains it yet. Is there anyone at all who plays this game that can help?

The game is pretty good, it just sadly has low player count.

DDDD, I am not entirely sure how the issue pages interact with the recipes on stations since the v1.0 release. I would highly recommend saving the issues until you can craft books as you complete sets. Alternatively, if you really don't want to spare the inventory space you could keep an out of game list of recipes instead and get rid of the pages.
