Introduction

Welcome to the features and general gameplay tips guide for the Rage-o-Rama! overhaul mod for Carmageddon 3: TDR2000.

The features and other tips can be used across this mod along with vanilla TDR since it's very similar gameplay. It's best to use this as a base for the Rage-o-Rama! mod because some information in this guide might not line up with vanilla TDR, so you have been warned.

This guide will be going over the general features and basic gameplay elements of Rage-o-Rama!
Controls
The controls for TDR2000 are not very difficult to understand at all. It's not as simple as just driving though. There are more elements to playing the game than that. Here I'll be going over the controls and how to utilize them fully.

In the options menu, you can choose between automatic or manual transmission along with controller options if you want to play TDR2000 with a controller.

Here is a full list of the game's default controls that can be modified in the "Options" menu.

Basic Movement / Combat
For general movement and combat, there are a few controls you need to learn that I will go over here. This will be assuming you have the automatic transmission enabled in the options.

Up Arrow
Accelerate
Down Arrow
Brake
Left Arrow
Turn left
Right Arrow

Space
Handbrake

Using the arrow keys to drive around is the most basic control you will be having here. Obvious things like braking when you're about to round a corner and using the handbrake and try to drift sharp turns. Pretty basic car controls overall.

Z
Wheel spin

Wheelspin is used to skip the race countdown. Hold Z and then accelerate forward to get a head start before all the other racers. This will give you a jumpstart penalty though and take some credits.

Enter
Recover

Recovering is a vital element of TDR2000. This is not Mario Kart and you can be smashed around and flipped over with no way to get back up. If you don't want to wait around for an opponent to knock you back on your wheels, then you can recover for a few thousand credits.

Repair

Now as for combat, you will be using your powerups on the enemy racers and cops. Collect powerups and cycle through them depending on what the situation calls for. Maybe you need afterburner to get a good head on collision or to speed away from a sticky situation. Maybe you need to launch a few mortars. Also be sure to repair yourself plenty but do it when you really need it to save on your money. If you double-tap backspace, the game will automatically repair you.

View map

It helps to be generally aware of your surroundings. If you need to find the enemy vehicles on the map or you're in a mission and need to see where things are. Looking behind you might just save your skin to know who's chasing you down. Seeing where all the racers are with the names is basically like a wall hack. You can also look on the map to see where everyone is. These come in handy with missions and multiplayer as well.

Camera Modes
Getting the right feel with the game's camera angle and motion is very important. There are various camera angles and ways to adjust them in TDR2000.

With 9 different camera angles, you can change up the feel of the game to your liking. From the static and stiff "Ass Cam" to the wobbly "Crazy Cam", there are a lot of options for all players. Page Up and Page Down are used to adjust the camera distance to your liking and Home returns the camera to its original position. Mouse-look mode enables you to look around by moving the mouse while driving.

R
Free mouse camera

The free mouse camera can only be enabled while cheats are active. This does not track your vehicle and allows you to move the camera freely around the map in real time. Left click moves you forward, Middle mouse moves you back, and Right click speeds up both. You can also move your mouse camera to a point in the map and recover, teleporting you to the camera location. You can use this camera in multiplayer, but cannot teleport with it.

Miscellaneous Controls
These controls don't fit into any category but are still important.

`
Open console

The TDR2000 command console is not very vital to normal gameplay, but can be a lot of good fun to play around with like your own sandbox. To see a full in-depth guide on the console and the commands that can be input, check out this guide.

Numpad Enter
Replay mode

Replay mode can be used to play back a moment you want to see again. To watch that nasty head-on crash you just did or that awesome stunt you pulled off. Or maybe you clipped into a light post and got sent off into orbit. The replay system is covered more in-depth further in the guide.

H
Change HUD configuration

This can be used to get slightly cinematic shots in real time. This setting has 3 modes. Full HUD detail, less HUD detail, and then no HUD. You can turn off the HUD with this option and get whatever angles you want with the camera settings above.

Manual Transmission
Some people might want to use manual transmission instead of the automatic so here are the controls for that. Manual reversing and acceleration can both be toggled in the controls menu.

Automatic transmission is a lot easier to play with obviously, but some might want to do it this way instead. You can automatically switch to the desired gear by pressing the number key associated. Or you can go up or down by pressing Q and W.
How Do I Play?
To begin the TDR2000 campaign, click "New Game" in the main menu to create a new save game file. you will be prompted to select a difficulty and give a name to your saved game. You will then be started out on the first race in the first map.

When playing TDR2000, while the game does auto-save after completing a race or mission, it's still best to manually save in the level selection menu.

If you do not want to play the campaign and want to do the free driving mode, then go see the free driving section of this guide.

RACING
When racing in TDR2000, it really is just a free-for-all demolition derby. Out of your randomly generated set of opponent racers, two of them will hunt you down and constantly pursue you unprovoked. The rest will stay neutral and race until you crash into them. At that point, they will try to kill you for a bit then once you've gone long enough without interacting, they will go back to racing.

In the bottom left during races, you will see the status of the vehicle closest to you. This can either be a racer or a cop. It will display their name, health, distance, and a phrase describing what they are doing. Below are what each phrase means.

Status
Meaning
"Burning rubber"
"Racing the roads"
"Chasing checkpoints"
The specified vehicle is currently racing on the track.
"Cruisin' around"
"Roaming the streets"
"Searching the area"
The specified vehicle is currently driving freely with no real goal.
"Headed to your location!"
"Coming to waste you!"
"In hot pursuit!"
The specified vehicle is attempting to get near you and is pursuing you.
"Sworn to destroy you!"
"After your BLOOD!"
"Hunting you down!"
The specified vehicle has targeted you and is attempting to waste you.
"Rushing to cover!"
"Running scared!"
"Help! Help!"
The specified vehicle has been damaged and is now attempting to flee from you.
"Lurking menacingly"
"Taking a breather"
"Stalled and idle"
The specified vehicle is sitting in place, motionless.

On the map, the player is the yellow car icon, opponents are marked as red car icons, and the car who's status is in the bottom left is marked as a green car icon. (This is also usually the vehicle closest to the player.) Cops are marked on the map as the blue car icon. Wasted vehicles are marked as solid black car icons.

When you waste an opponent, a cop will spawn and begin to pursue you endlessly. The cops max presence is six on the map at a time. Cops generally get more powerful with each of the spawns. Think of it like the Grand Theft Auto star system. If you waste a cop before all six have spawned, the next one up won't spawn. Different maps may have different themed police.

The timer is another aspect of racing that makes an impact. Keeping the timer at a nice meaty number is pretty easy. It's capped at four minutes and you get extra time by killing peds, crashing into your opponents or the cops, and collecting time bonus powerups.

There are three different ways to finish a race in TDR2000.
  • Wasting all racers
  • Finishing all laps
  • Killing all pedestrians
The first one is the most common, and is the most fun. You just crash around into the other vehicles and waste them all one by one. You also get to purchase them at the end of the race this way as well. Your progress is shown at the top with the "WASTED" number to the right of the timer. The cops don't count and wasting them isn't necessary to win. It is pretty fun and still gives you credits + time however.

The second one is still sort of common, but most players don't finish this way. You just need to race through all the checkpoints and complete your laps in order to finish the race. There are no placements so your opponents can't really "beat" the race; only you can. Your progress is shown at the top with the "LAP" and "C/P" numbers to the left of the timer.

The last one is extremely rare and time consuming to pull off. Killing all peds isn't super hard and can be fun, but this is something you'll probably really only do once or twice. Your progress is shown at the top with the "KILLS" number to the right of the timer.

MISSIONS
As for missions, these will come right after a race. So the format goes: race, mission, race, mission, and so on. Missions are levels where you need to complete a specific set of objectives in order to progress. Some may require classic derbying chaos, but others may require calculated moves and good timing.

To see a full walkthrough of all the missions and how to complete them, check out this guide.
Car Selection
By default, you will not have all vehicles unlocked in a new saved game or in free driving mode. When progressing through the campaign, you are able to purchase vehicles you waste. If you see a vehicle you think you might want, then go smash it up and buy it after the race is over.

Whatever save you load will have those stored vehicles available for free driving mode.

Picking the right vehicle for a situation is definitely important in TDR2000. As you get further in the game, your opponents will get larger and tougher, so you need to follow that up as well. Some missions will call for you to be quick and zippy, others require some serious demolition power.

In the Rage-o-Rama! mod, a vehicles stats can be found on the left side of the garage selection menu. Read these stats and pick a car with generally good handling and top speed. Some vehicles just aren't as viable as others and some are there to be a novelty.

You also get to see these stats when deciding what wasted vehicle you want to purchase. Purchase ones that you think are worth the money and are generally an upgrade to what you currently have. It's good to have a plethora of vehicles at your disposal. Sometimes you may need to be a speed racer, others might call for a hulking titan to roll out of the woodwork.

Most importantly, get vehicles you want. If a vehicle seems like it might be fun to drive then just go for it. These rules also apply to multiplayer games.
Powerups
Powerups are a vital part of the game and can help or hinder you. Most of them respawn every two minutes upon collection.

There are common powerups that apply a status effect to the player for so many seconds. These can be seen on the left side of the screen under the speedometer.

There are also item powerups that can be used at the player's convenience and are seen in the bottom left corner. These are stored and can be collected in quantities of up to 99 per powerup. These are used by pressing Left Alt and can be cycled through with Z and X respectively.

Here is a list of the powerup types you will encounter and what they do.

Powerup
Effect
The most common powerup. This will be the same powerup each time you collect it in a specific location. Could be anything from turbos, weapons, or other status effects.
Like the above powerup, but it gives you a random powerup each time.
Pedestrian-related powerup. This will be the same each time.
Money bonus.
Time bonus.
Nuclear bomb item.
Armor-related powerup. Does not respawn.
Power-related powerup. Does not respawn.
Offensive-related powerup. Does not respawn.
Armor, power, and offensive-related powerup. Does not respawn.
Combat
Combat is what fuels the fires of TDR2000. Road raging maniacs all destroying each other in a chaotic demolition derby is the most fun you can have!

However, knowing how to be a force to reckon with is another can of worms. These are some general car combat tips when you find yourself in some tricky situations.

POWERUPS
The right powerups can help you in a fight when used correctly.

They can be found scattered around the map and most respawn every two minutes.

A large amount of the powerups can be extremely useful in a fight. Speed powerups allow you to either get a powerful head-on crash or let you escape a dangerous situation. Other item powerups are good to wither down your opponents little by little. Mortars, mines, etc.

Generally, it's good to conserve your powerups instead of using them all at once. Aim and time mortars just right to get a few good hits on an opponent. (F2 Cam helps with aim.) Just tap your afterburner a couple times to get a good speed boost. Make sure the opponents are nearby when collecting a damage magnifier so that it doesn't run out by the time you get to them. Make sure there is some geometry around you to knock your opponents into when using a repulsificator. The list goes on.

MOVEMENT
It's important to know how to move around just right in a heated situation. This could make you the dangerous one or make you the little weasel who needs to run.

Look on your mini-map and the bottom left status to see who is coming and who is nearby. Also use the B key to look behind you. Being aware of what is around you is important so you know where to drive to.

Try to avoid a collision with a vehicle going faster than you. Damage in TDR2000 is determined by who was going faster in a crash. So even if you crash head on into a large truck, it might not even damage you if you were going super fast. This is what turbo powerups and afterburner is useful for. Getting a head-on speedy collision might kill your opponent in one hit. Head-on crashes deal the most damage as opposed to rear-ending or T-boning someone.

Evade and weave around your opponents by speeding around, handbraking to drift, and using ramps. Think if it like being chased around by an angry bull. Wither them down as you weave around them. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

MATCHUPS
There is a great diversity of vehicles in this game. You could be a small fry or decide to roll around as a hulking menace. It's all up to your preference!

Here is what you need to do when faced with certain types of vehicles!

Vehicle Size
Strategy
Small (Bikes, Hot-Rods, etc.)
Not too many small vehicles in this game, but the few that are nimble and weak are obviously very easy to take care of and waste. A few head-on crashes (maybe even just one) will do the trick and waste em.
Medium (Regular Cars)
Your normal-sized cars are the most abundant and common type of opponent you will be facing throughout the game. You are most times evenly matched so getting a few head-on crashes and maybe using a damage powerup should be pretty simple. Use speed to get a good hit and any items to wither them down. This size is the most balanced to play against.
Large (Semi Trucks, Monster Trucks, Earthmovers, etc.)
Larger vehicles are going to be tough opponents to knock out. Try not to get hit more than once by these guys and generally evade them the best you can. Build up good speed and get some nasty head-on collisions. Also be sure to collect those damage amplifiers and use your items.
Huge (Tanks, Trains, Dump Trucks, etc.)
These guys are the biggest of the big and are going to be impossible to waste without damage powerups and extremely fast head-on collisions. Do not get caught by these guys or it's basically instant death.

PEDESTRIANS
Peds can actually hurt you too! Some peds spawn with melee weapons they hit you with. These actually hurt quite a bit and only take four good swings to waste any vehicle.

Peds with weapons will run up to you and try to swing. Handbrake and drift out of their way to see them miss and fall to the ground. Then use this chance to run them over and kill them. Either that or use a pedestrian-killing item you have saved like the electro-bastard ray or flamethrower.
Money
Your money in TDR2000 is what will help you repair and recover in-game along with buying you some needed APO upgrades and new vehicles. You get credits from merely playing the game. Killing peds and wasting your opponents grants you credit bonuses. You can also collect credit powerups for that extra boost.

Being smart with what you spend your money on is important. Do you want that beefy car or a few extra APO upgrades? Do you really need to repair all the time? Maybe you don't need to recover just yet- that opponent speeding at you might knock you back on your wheels! If you don't have money to spare, then re-playing the same races over again and running over some peds along with wasting more opponents will build up your fortune.

You can also get more money from certain bonuses gained from performing actions. Head-on crashes, crushing peds against the wall, performing stunts, etc! These all can give you bonus credits when you need them.

Use your judgement on what to buy. If you need more APO in later levels that you didn't buy, then go for that. If you find yourself lacking in the vehicles department then waste some suckers and buy them after the race!

Money is pretty easy to make in this game, let alone deciding what to spend it on.
APO Upgrades
Your car needs to be souped up as the game goes on because your opponents will get tougher, and tracks will get longer. Your armor, power, and offensive categories have 30 slots of each available to purchase and fill as the game goes on.

Armor is your defense, making you harder to crush and kill.
Power is your speed, making you more evasive and time-efficient.
Offensive is your fighting capability, making you more dangerous.

Your APO is displayed in the top left corner under your speedometer on the HUD.

There are APO powerups that you can find around the maps you play on. These can either give slots or fill existing slots. The yellow helmet is armor, the brown engine is power, the blue gauntlet is offensive, and the yellow eagle is all three.

In the garage is where you will give your vehicle the extra beef it needs. Buying an APO slot just adds a slot that can be filled. Filling the slot makes it a bright red, indicating that extra tick is upgraded. When all 90 slots have been bought and filled out, you are a very dangerous driver.

APO upgrades are not vehicle specific and apply to all vehicles you choose.

Opponent APO also becomes greater as the game goes on. Unusually, the levels are the same for all difficulties. Here is a full chart of the opponent APO levels below.

Free Driving
Free Driving mode is basically like a sandbox mode. You do not lose if you die and all repairs and recoveries are free. The timer is also disabled. Instead of the usual 8 or 10 opponents, you have 15. Cops follow the same rules as normal and spawn when you waste a racer.

By default, you only have the starter vehicles and starter APO. If you want to change this, go to the main menu and select "Load Game."

You can choose the "All Cars + APO" save that was included with Rage-o-Rama! or one of your own saved games. This save, as indicated by the name, has all cars unlocked and fully upgraded APO. All the levels are also unlocked along with $7,000,000 in credits so you won't run out.

Once you have loaded this saved game, exit to the main menu and go back to free driving. You should now have the same unlocked vehicles and APO as the save that was loaded.

This mode can also be quite fun when paired with the TDR2000 console. To learn how the console works and see a full list of commands, read this guide.

SETTINGS
You are able to tweak some settings in the "Options" of free driving in the bottom right. Some options have been modified in such a way that it is not recommended to change them.

Below are a list of options that are not recommended for changing.

Option
Effect
Reason
Cops active from start
Enables the number of cops that has been set to spawn do so when the race starts, regardless of any racers having been wasted.
Enabling cops to spawn when the racer number is above six will crash the game. If you have edited the number of racers to be six or below, you can disregard this warning.
Number of racers
Defines how many racers will be spawned.
The number is blank, but the value is fifteen trust me. The in-game slider only goes up to six and in order to go higher you need to manually edit the "options.txt" file in the TDR folder. If you modify this, you will not be able to go back up to fifteen racers without editing the text file yourself.

Below are a list of options that are free to change as you please.

Option
Effect
Timer
Enables / disable the timer.
Additional traffic
Enables / disables drone vehicles.
All racers the same as player
All spawned racers are also the car you chose.
Allow repairs when wasted
Allows you to still play after dying and repair yourself despite having been wasted.
Number of cops
Defines how many cops will spawn.
Racer aggression
Defines how often enemy racers will target you.
Cop aggression
Defines how often cops will target you.
Number of Peds
Defines how many pedestrians are on the map.
Laps
Defines how many laps are needed to win.
Race time (minutes)
Defines how many minutes of time you have when the timer is enabled.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer in TDR2000 can be a lot of fun. The various gamemodes and even some strategies will be covered in this section. To see a tutorial on how to run multiplayer servers, check out the main guide for the Rage-o-Rama! mod.

PvP
Fighting real players is not like fighting AI vehicles. This is where things get real. These actual people will not drive into walls endlessly and get stuck like the AI does. Depending on how experienced a player is, they can make it very hard for you to fight back.

Vehicle choices also factor into this. Players who decided to drive around as a larger truck should be avoided and challenged only when you are properly outfitted with the correct powerups.

Most maneuver tactics in singleplayer can be used in multiplayer as well. Use turbos to escape or hit them with good speed, aim your mortars, etc.

GAMEMODES
There are a lot of different gamemodes available for you to have fun with other people in. Below is a list of all the gamemodes available for net play and what they are about.

Gamemode
Synopsis
Death Race
A traditional singleplayer-styled race, except now with players. When you finish the race or die, you are set on the player overview screen. You must leave and rejoin to exit this player list on screen.

The red race path indicator is absent from multiplayer, so it will be harder to remember where the race goes unless you've memorized the tracks. The in-game arrows on the track guiding you are still present though.
Knockout Race
Like a normal race, but the person in last place explodes when the person in first place wins. Try to finish your laps because if you are in last, you are knocked out.
Free for All!
Here, you can select from a plethora of smaller arena-styled maps. In this mode, it is a free for all battle to the death. You can respawn infinitely.
British Bulldogs
There are two safe zones at either side of a long tube. The "bulldog" player can't enter the safe zones and must touch the other players as they attempt to race from one safe zone to the other. Any player touched by a bulldog will become one as well. The last player converted wins.
Fox n' Hounds
One player is the Fox. The other players (Hounds) must touch them in order to become the Fox themselves. The first person to become a Fox for a certain accumulated amount of time wins.
Hot Nut!
One player is randomly selected to have the "nut" which must be passed on to other players like a game of hot potato. This "nut" is a nuclear bomb and will explode when the timer reaches zero or if it is impacted too hard.

CUSTOM GAMEMODES
The following gamemodes are pure ideas and are up to the players to follow the rules. These cannot be found in the multiplayer gamemodes section and do not have code in place to enforce the gameplay rules.

The Boulevard Job
This is typically played on The Boulevard in the Death Race mode. One player is the "chased" and will play as a vehicle with a strength of 100 or lower. The rest of the players play as the cops and must stop them from finishing the race. There will be multiple tier 1 cops (Riot) a couple tier 2 cops (Liberator) and one tier 3 cop (Suppressor). The racer is given a three second head start and then the cops can begin pursuit. The cops must work together to block the racer from finishing the race. If the racer finishes all laps, they win. If the cops waste the racer before they finish, then the cops win.

When the game is over, the players can cycle out who is playing what role.
Vs. Wrath
This is typically played on any map in the Death Race or Free For All modes. One player is playing as "Wrath" (You must go into "options.txt" in your TDR files and edit the "NET_PLAYER_CAR" to be Wrath.) The rest of the players are playing any vehicle they choose and must escape from Wrath and evade him for as long as possible. Once a player dies, they can choose to spectate or just leave and re-join. This is basically just a little game of cat and mouse. Except the cat is a gigantic raging dump truck. THE ORB can also be an alternative vehicle to play as for chasing players around the map.
Rand-o-Rama!
This is typically played on any map in any gamemode. The random vehicles feature unfortunately crashes your game, so a way to make it actually work is for the host to go into their "Assets/Cars" folder in the TDR files and get a random number generator[g.co] and set the maximum to 220. Then roll a number for each player. When you roll a number, highlight the car folders until it says you have the right number selected. For instance, if I got number 84, I would highlight the car files until my file explorer says "84 items selected" in the bottom left. You would then have the player choose the last highlighted vehicle. In this case, that would be "Hedgehog".

SPECTATING
When you are in the results screen, you can use the SpectatorMode.exe tool made by Wolverine included with the Rage-o-Rama! mod pack. You can also use the in-game mouse camera to look around the map and get different angles of net play.

Free Mouse Cam
In multiplayer, you can open the console with the tilde key and type "hereComesTrouble" which will activate cheats. Most cheats cannot be enabled and do not work in multiplayer. However, one feature that does translate over is the free view mouse camera.

When cheats have been activated, press R to activate the free view mouse camera. To operate the camera is extremely simple. Drag the mouse around to look and use Left Click to move forward, Middle Mouse to move backward, and Right Click to speed up both.

The free mouse camera will not work on the results screen after you have died. You must be alive in order to use this feature.

Spectator Mode Program
In multiplayer races, sitting on the wasted screen is boring. This is where the wonderful tool made by Wolverine comes in handy. You can now spectate players by opening "SpectatorMode.exe" included with the Rage-o-Rama! mod. It's a little choppy, but it definitely can get the job done.

When you are spawned into game, press the F10 key to toggle spectator mode ON or OFF.

By default, the program will start detecting and scanning between "active" players on the map every 5 seconds. You may change this rate by going to "Camera > Cycle Rate > Set" in the menu of the program.

The F11 key will turn cycling OFF, or back on should you want to. If you do turn cycling off, you will be able to take advantage of the F12 key, which will skip to the next player in the sequence manually.

The final options available to you are the +/- keys which zoom IN and OUT on the current player. Also, the HOME key will change the camera view between one of two types (opposite directions).
Replay Mode
The replay system in TDR2000 can be used to look back on a moment that just happened in the game. There may have been a cool crash you want to watch over again or maybe even if you clipped into a lamp post and got sent into orbit, you can replay those moments over again. Don't wait too long, because the replay system only back-tracks so far.

To enter replay mode, press Numpad Enter.

Here, your game will freeze in place and the replay HUD will appear in the bottom right. These controls are very simple to understand. There are the middle buttons which are pretty self explanatory when using the system.

ACTION REPLAY CONTROLS
Below are shortcut controls you can easily use in order to work the replay system without using the buttons toward the bottom. Say you have a good angle and want to rewind, but don't want to snap the camera back onto your car.

CAMERA ANGLES
The button on the far left is a camera. When clicked, this will cycle through different camera angles. You can also manually press F1 - F9 like in normal play to go straight to the desired angle. Three new angles have now been added that are only accessible in the replay mode.

F10
TV Cam

The TV Cam will automatically attempt to create more cinematic angles of the replay you are watching over.

F11
Incident Cam

This is the same as the TV cam, but pedestrian kills are especially highlighted and shown at a more dramatic angle.

F12
Manual Carnage Cam

You can use the free mouse cam (without cheats) by cycling to this camera mode and then pressing Space. Using your mouse, Left Click brings you forward, Middle Mouse moves you backward, and Right Click makes both go faster. You can return to normal carnage cam view by pressing Space again.

RECORDING
Finally, the last button far on the right is the record button. This will slow the game down a bit and begin recording a .mov file. You can still use the replay controls while it is recording. To stop the recording, press the record button again, or press Numpad Enter.

To find the movie files made by the game, check in your Rage-o-Rama! installation directory for a folder called "Replay Movies."

Alternatively if you wanted to record, you could just use a recording software and record your screen instead of using the in-game recording system. The .mov files end up being a little low quality and choppy looking.
