Preparation
In order to record a replay you need to be prepared, whats more annoying than doing something replay-Worthy to find out that the server doesn't allow replays?
In the Screenshot above you can see four check boxes, to insure better replays, click all of them, most importantly the supports replays box, then pick the map you want, as you can see I have decided to use 2fort as my map, then pick a server with you preferred features. If you see a message on the top left about the replay system being ready you have completed the preparation stage.
Recording
Recording is the easiest part of making the replay, because all you need to do is press the "Save Replay" button by default F6 at any time and the current life until that point will be saved as a Temporary Replay available for editing.
Editing
Editing can be the easiest part of the replay to the hardest part, it depends on if you want to make your replay look like a short movie, and also depending on your skill editing can range from being as easy as learning to move to being virtually inscrutable. (If this is your first time / you don't have the "Star of My Own Show" achievement take a lot of time on this stage, until you get the achievement)
In order to access the replay you must click the replays button.
If done correctly you will enter this screen if you have not recorded another replay there will be one replay under "Temporary Replays" click it and you will see additional details on the file.
Once on this details screen click watch/edit to edit it or watch it to see if it is the right one if you have more than one replay there. You will see a loading screen.
Upon loading you will be instructed to press space to pause edit it, upon doing so you will see this ui, there is a menu button on the top right and below that, buttons with class icons with the words red and blu, these will take camera focus to other players, so for basic replays you should leave them alone, on the right there is time control along with triangles with 1 and 0, these are for picking the beginning and ending of your take (A take is an edited replay), and then to the right of that, a button for time speed and camera options, for now you should pick the last button that looks faintly like a camera, this is the free camera option, upon clicking it you should see a list of sliders, ignore them, they are too advanced for a testing screenshot.
Click the centre of the screen and use your mouse and "movement buttons" by default W,A,S and D to move the camera, make sure the replay is at the beginning and is paused, or the camera might jump into place or the cameras movement will be part of the replay, or possibly both, once your camera is in the right place click the triangle buttons to choose you beginning and end of the take, you have to go through the take going back and forward 10 seconds each skip, there is no slider to choose a specific time, and every-time you skip it will load, I recommend going to the start of the clip by clicking the button two buttons to the left of the pause button, you can also go to the end by clicking on the button two buttons to the right if the pause button, After you do this you have finished the editing, and you must open the top right menu and click save as and call it anything you want, you can then press escape and quit the replay.
Rendering and Exporting
Well, done for making it this far.
If you go back into the replays details you can see that there is something under the takes section, this is your saved edit, you must click the take and then click "Save to Movie..."
You will see this menu, for your test replay, ignore this completely ( this menu is used for quality control, for a quick test to check that you have done everything right this is unnecessary), Upon clicking "Go!" You will see a loading screen and then a screen telling you your rendering progress, If you unchecked show preview this will be faster.
When the rendering is finished you will be taken to this screen and you will notice a replay under "Saved Movies" this is the final rendered version of tour edit, that is ready to be exported
to export click the movie and click on either "YouTube it" or "Export" "YouTube it" will upload the movie directly to your YouTube account, by logging in and adding the details through the game while "Export" will give you the movie's file for you to upload elsewhere.
On a Final Note
I thank you for taking the time to read through my guide, this is the final very basic low quality beginners replay.
I hope I gave you the knowledge to produce things greater and bigger and for those who read all the way through I hope your video gets popular.

For those of you who did wait during the edditing stage I thank you for listening (I think...) and you can thank me, for you may of heard the new item sound if you got the achievement and left the replay's editing, for I have just shown you how to unlock the free all class taunt, "The Directors Vision."

The replay system hasn't been updated in forever so this guide probably isn't outdated

This tutorial is almost 3 years old, most of the information could be seriously outdated, I haven't played TF2 in months and when I return (if I ever do) I probably won't try making any replays. I don't see myself making a newer guide due to the unpopularity of this one.
