Why does this need a guide?
The in-game codex for Songs of Conquest may be a great source of information however it isn't perfect and omits some details which can only be seen elsewhere.

For example, faction has 3 classes which dictate what skills the can potentially learn.
These are:

Arleon:
Commander
Erudite
Warden

Loth:
Chosen
Magus
Reaver

Barya:
Freeblade
Mercenary
Tinkersmith

Rana:
Awakened
Raider
Seer

Within the codex, all skills list which classes may learn it although it is not the easier to read so....

Here is a spreadsheet showing which classes can learn what.
If a wielder of a certain class starts with a skill, it is marked by an " * "

If that is the case then I am sorry that this is incorrect.
I made this during the game's Early Access so it may be outdated now.
All I did was take the information from the in-game encyclopedia and arrange it in a spreadsheet.

Gugax
For powers, they are based/grouped on skills picked prior.
I can'r remember the details but powers mainly improve what you have already invested in;
Pick essence skills and you get essence based powers (i.e. +1 all Essence at start of round)
Pick utility skills and you get utility powers (i.e. +40% unit production)
Pick combat skills and you get Brutality (i.e. +1 damage)
...
Again, it has been a few months since I have played but I plan to do so more soon-ish.

Just noting a dumb typo where Raider and Seer are on the same line which confused me for a sec as someone still learning the game. Otherwise super useful!
