Introduction
In this guide I'll share with you some tips on what works and what doesn't work with the extreme survival milestones as of outlaws update, since some details of this milestone changed over time. I'll also share with you a planet that should be ideal for getting the three achievements of extreme survival, with a base available for safely hanging out by yourself or with friends.

Do not use external tools like cheat engine or save editor! It might not work and even make it impossible for that save to get the achivements. You have been warned.

Extreme survival milestones requires you to spend a certain amount of sols (day/night cycles) in an extreme planet. For some, an extreme planet has either extreme weather or agressive sentinels, both of which appear as red text in the lower left corner when exiting your ship.
For me and a few other players, however, it worked only having both at the same time for the milestone to count. Also note that all milestones are character-sided, so if you have multiple characters you can pick the one that has a higher score to continue onwards.

You can check if the timer is counting under the pause menu, milestones, jouney, and extreme survival. Notice that it might not be available in expedition characters, and it also counts on normal mode saves. Since one sol is between 12~15 minutes, if your count didn't update at least 0.1 sols after three minutes, something is wrong. Lets clarify the conditions below:
Conditions and explanations
For the milestone to be sure to count, you need to:

  • Be in a planet that has both extreme weather and agressive sentinels;
  • Not have died recently, else the counter resets the hidden counter;
  • Not be inside a starship, freighter or exosuit, else the counter pauses;
  • Your game must be focused and running without anything on top of it. It can't be paused, but you can manage inventory, craft and use steam overlay. It's OK for the monitor to be idle as long as your computer doesn't hibernate or pause the game.

It's important to notice that you can be inside a cave, a building or even a base and it will work. You don't need to be exposed to the weather.

If you have died after your current milestone high score, it will internaly reset to zero, but won't show you! For it to display higher values and to progress further, you'll need to make a better score. Say you died while it was 9 sols, it will begin to increase again after it reaches 9.1 sols.

There are two restrictions related to older versions that aren't in use anymore. Namely, that you can't board your ship or exit the planet. Now doing either of those only pauses your sols count. In other words, you can do this achievement in your own pace, visiting other planets and the space anomaly, no need to do it in one sitting or restrict yourself to the planet.

That's pretty much what you need to know to get the achivement, and below I'll share the base I've built while waiting for this achievement, should you want to use it, and the planet's glyphs.
Suggested planet and base
The base is in Euclid, inside a pirate galaxy. It's just outside a portal and teleporters take you to a lounge, couple sofas, beatbox, cooking station, four landing pads and soon a poledance for your pets. Obviously, be careful when outside as the weather and sentinels are fierce. I've also placed a green save beacon on a trading station, and a red save beacon on a sentinel nest, should you want to disable them.

Note that the base and beacons were placed in normal, and I'm unsure if they're there for survival or permadeath.

Disclaimer: My lawyers and I are legally obligated to say that building this base didn't rely on korvax slavery in any moment of it's construction. And that there are no korvax shells under the landing pads. Any foul odors or nanite streams nearby the landing pads or adjacent soil are merely due to starship leaks and related wastes.

Hi!

Yes, for better or worst, NMS planets are always subject to change; and so are mechanics (to a lesser degree). So, indeed, this guide might be outdated. If someone can test if their count of extreme survival doesn't go up, I'll mark it as oudated/hide it.

08.01.2025. I'm guessing the information in your original post is dated and that changes have made some of it inaccurate. The sentinels at your base are now "enforcing", not aggressive., and walking inside your base _stops the counter_. Nice accommodations though and thanks for putting it so conveniently by the portal. What I've found is that one can no longer be in a closed/covered building nor underground. A few units below grade is fine and inside a 4-walled structure without a roof is fine. It is not necessary to be on a planet with high sentinel activity. I completed mine on the planet Ceklingto in the Painet system, located in the Isdoraijung galaxy, which has “limited” listed for sentinel activity but has “eternal cyclones” listed for weather.
