Objective
I know there might be other guides explaining how to fix this game but I wanted to make an "all-in-one" guide, as detailed as possible. Who knows, maybe it will help someone...
I know this game has major issues and functionality problems on newer systems. However, it seems that it can be patched to run properly.
Known problems / known fixes
First of all I need to mention that I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 at the time of testing and writing this guide, therefore I can't guarantee this will work on Win 8, 10 or 11. Windows 7 still remains the most permissive Microsoft OS when it comes to compatibility. Anyway...

1. Shaders problem: Textures and/or shadows flickering
- Requires new "lightmap.vsh" file

2. No music / enabling music causes the game to crash
- Requires new "audiere.dll" file

3. No widescreen support
- There is already a guide for that here

As for the gameplay errors and bugs, I can only tell you that the game can be completed. Despite all the bugs and glitches, nothing blocks the player from reaching the end of the game (at least I didn't encounter such problems).

Resolvation
1. Clean install

It is best to make sure there is no TSS: RV folder left in your Steam directory if you previously had the game installed. So, uninstall and delete the folder "The Stalin Subway Red Veil" from (default location): Steam\steamapps\common. Then, install the game again.

2. First launch - no modifications

Launch the game. If config.exe launches first, just press OK and don't change anything yet. The game should start, Buka logo shows and you end up in the main menu. You can start a new game to verify that you can load the first level. Exit the game afterwards.

3. Download the required files ("lightmap.vsh" and "audiere.dll")

Both can be downloaded from this link: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/710-the-stalin-subway-fix-12/ If that link doesn't work, try this direct download link[pcgw-community.sfo2.digitaloceanspaces.com]. This should automatically start the download of the .rar archive. It's safe, by the way...

4. Replace the files

Extract the files from the archive you just downloaded as follows:
- "lightmap.vhs" goes to: YourGameDirectory\The Stalin Subway Red Veil\vshader
- "audiere.dll goes to: YourGameDirectory\The Stalin Subway Red Veil\

5. Launch the game and make video and audio adjustments

Launch from Steam. As before, if config.exe shows up, ignore it for now. If everything worked fine, you should be presented with the logo and the main menu.

Now you can go to Game Settings -> Audio and "Enable Music". You should hear the main theme playing now:

Then Video and enable everything:

6. Resolution

You can simply follow the instructions from this guide: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1919846214
In short: download app from this link (copy and remove spaces): htt ps://yadi .sk/d/rUQs8ed3uBxzQQ (it's safe), copy the ".exe" file into the main game directory, run it (don't mind the security warning) and set your desired resolution:

Finally, run "config.exe" and set the resolution to 640 x 480. I recommend the following settings:

That's pretty much it!
Final notes
I tried to make this as detailed as possible, maybe it will help someone. Don't know for how long the links will remain active... If you have recommendations, solutions or you encounter different problems, feel free to post in the comments.

This guide should also work for the first Stalin Subway game.

Thanks for reading!

I ended up just forcing the resolution with dgvoodoo2, no clue why the exe wasn’t working for me for the red veil

@RandalMcdaniel - You're welcome! Sry for the late reply...

@Be Very Afraid - I'm sorry to hear you have problems. I've just tested the game on my system and it works just fine. I'm on Windows 10, RTX 2060 and a 1080p monitor. I'm not sure if higher resolutions or other formats than 4:3 or 16:9 can crash the game, neither if AMD GPUs cause issues.

- Try setting the resolution to 1600x1200 in config.exe and see if it crashes again - you can also try modifying the Frequency;
- Try forcing the game to run in 60 FPS or at your monitor's refresh rate (I set mine on 75 FPS using Riva Tuner);
- Ultimately, I recommend uninstalling the game, delete the game folder from Steam's "common" folder and try again from the beginning, making sure you don't skip any step.

Check other guides to see if others encountered the same issue. Other than that, I don't know what the problem could be...

The resolution fix does not want to work for the red veil for me. Works fine for the first Stalin subway but not the second :( game just crashes when trying to start it after applying the patch
