Trying to optimize team composition. Minimum crew.
Base roles
I mean only unique roles. No First aid/Explosives, that can be useful to everyone, but not extremely important and needed to be focused. Also, i dont consider the process of leveling skills, so INT stat is mostly useless for now (we are waiting for respec and psionics).

Roles can and must be combined/separated in several ways.
  1. Main character
  2. Ground team member 2 (dealing damage) - ground team only
  3. Ground team member 3 (dealing damage) - ground team only
  4. Ground team member 4 (dealing damage) - ground team only
  5. Perception - ground team only. To see hidden objects
  6. Charisma - ground team only. To negotiate
  7. Hacking - ground team only. To hack (wow)
  8. Salvaging
  9. Repairing - ground team (is it really needed?)
  10. Repairing - spaceship, not in the ground team! This is because if he is in your ground team during missions, ship repairs stop.
  11. Crafting
  12. Piloting - space only
  13. Weaponry - space only
  14. Electronics - space only
  15. Targeting - space only
  16. Mining - space only

Perception, Hacking and Salvahing roles, i think, should be combined in one character. He is selected when moving around, he needs to see hidden things, he hacks containers and autoopens them, salvaging gives bonus loot (confirmed?).

You can Repair and Craft (and Salvage, but i dont like inventory micromanagement) items from time to time, this character doesnt need to be in your main ground team and deal damage.

Ship repairs need to be done by someone not in main ground team, as ship repairs stop when he is on the mission.

Charisma can be useful in your main ground team, it doesnt work in reserve. Only 1 character needs it and whole team gets bonus.

I dont consider mutations - Fabricants and others - for now.

Stats
2h weapons - STR adds good damage, AGI adds medium damage, DEX adds very little accuracy, 1.5 HP per point.
1h weapons - STR adds medium damage, AGI adds good damage, DEX adds very little accuracy.
Hth fighting - STR adds medium damage, AGI adds good damage, DEX adds medium accuracy.
Ranged - DEX adds medium damage, PRC adds good damage and little accuracy, STR adds very little damage to Heavy weapons only.

As you can see, most useful in utility attributes are DEX and PRC. CHA is optional, not used in combat at all. INT is useful for levelling (and later for psionics), but not in skills.
Also most DEX uses in hacking can be avoided by your clicking skills and several tries.

So you can fit all roles with 5 team members: 4 in ground team and 1 in a spaceship (only sometimes Crafting/Repairing).
Also weapon choices are mostly optional. I just prefer my CHA character not to be frontline.
Final
  1. Explorer/Looter
    Ground roles: Perception, Hacking, Salvaging.
    Weapons: Ranged. I like Rifle (long range) + Pistol (short range)
    Stats: PRC only.
    Space roles: Any (not Repairing).
    This is main character.

  2. Repair
    Ground roles: Repair.
    Weapons: Any.
    Stats: STR/AGI/PRC mostly, DEX some.
    Space roles: Any (not Repairing).
    This role can use any weapon, it is a smaller DD role. They all benefit a little from DEX, but mostly Ranged and Pugilism. If you dont want to focus on repair (or just dont level DEX), it becomes full DD role.

  3. Charisma
    Ground roles: Charisma.
    Weapons: Any
    Stats: STR/AGI/PRC mostly, CHA some.
    Space roles: Any (not Repairing).
    I think that CHA character should better stay behind. But it is another usual smaller DD role.

  4. Damage Dealer
    Ground roles: Dealing damage.
    Weapons: Any.
    Stats: STR/AGI/PRC only.
    Space roles: Any (not Repairing).
    This role can use any weapon. You can have several of them (no DEX repair and/or no CHA bonuses and/or no INT psionic).
    STR - 2-handed weapons.
    AGI - 1-handed weapons and Pugilism.
    PRC - ranged weapons.

  5. Psionic?
    Ground roles: Psionic.
    Weapons: -.
    Stats: INT.
    Space roles: Any (not Repairing).

  6. Space dog
    Ground roles: Crafting, Repairing from time to time.
    Weapons: Any.
    Stats: DEX.
    Space roles: Repair.



My team consists of: Explorer/Looter (Ranged), Charisma (Ranged), DD (Pugilism), DD (Ranged).
Later i am planning switch ranged DD to Psionic.
