Introduction
Hello everyone! Welcome to my guide!

I love the KOEI games but they are so expensive now and, well, here I am.
This game gave me the same old feels I used to have on the early Romance of the 3 Kingdoms games which I used to enjoy back in the day. This game is like a fan-made love letter to them.

I have to admit, the music was one of the best aspects of the game, it was wow.

The translation is.. umm.. could be better but workable.
There are several translations but havent tested others than English.

Edit: Thank you for the awards! handsome strangers! You are awesome! 😁✔✨

Edit 2: The game is updating every now and then, so there might be extra stuff now or things might have been fixed, let me know in the comments if I need to update smth, thank you!

Game Video/Audio Settings
Check out the settings to go fullscreen or increase resolution, oddly enough, the first time you use it, you are limited to a few choices but if you changed them then click on the arrow, you can choose more options. If you think the audio is too loud, you can scroll down the settings menu to the audio options (you might miss that you can scroll down the settings interface)

You can use "Strategy mode" and play this on a tablet or a phone.. or a very old laptop, you wont be able to do manual duels or battles if you choose this though.

Achievements
Most are two types: Win a scenario (Doesnt matter with which warlord) and do grinds, lots and lots of grinding..across multiple, multiples playthroughs. Check the achievements section for more details.
Remember to turn cheats OFF on the settings page when starting a new game.
The setting stays off but its ON by default.

I was very sad to see some achievements broken so I cant 100% the game, I like hunting for all steam achievements in my games. I do hope they fix them someday, it would be nice.
But I've been playing for weeks without any serious response so...just so you know.. sad.

Some steam achievements are unattainable or broken, specially regarding cities!

Thanks to MegaMidboss for making some observations that adds value to the guide, ty Midboss!
General gameplay
Ok, so you did the tutorial and are still a bit confused?
Yeah, its normal, I think.

Basically the game goes like this:
You start the game and pick a force.

You check your officers stats.
You assign officers to search and recruit more officers using "Spy" and "Search"
You assign officers to develop your cities.
You assign officers to do some tech research in the workshop.
You assign officers to do square sidequests or strategies.
You appoint a council, good prefects, give titles.

You build/drill an army for offense and defense.
You go conquer other cities while defending your own, "recruiting" more officers along the way.
White flag cities and ports are "free", you only need to deploy 100 troops and an officer to conquer.

You delegate good officers to run your new cities/ports.
You build a supply network to keep your frontlines from starving/being broke.
You keep your officers loyal with bribery.

Repeat steps until you win.

In between you can do raising children, appointing, diplomacy and spy stuff if you want, it helps.
Capital Interface
You can only see the inside of one town, that's your capital.
Here is the interface explained:
The middle area (red) is your main development hub, here you can manage your city, it will be explained in more detail below.

To your left (blue), there are buttons to see mainly information not only about your force but others, the bottom button (World) is important to switch between the City interface and the World Map.

At the bottom (yellow), you can do war, spy and diplomacy stuff (its explained better below).
Important here is settings and Files (Save and load game).

On the right (green), its the shortcut menu, the Task button helps to quickly unassign officers, the TO DO button will help you assign officers to the places they need to work at, you can do this normally by using buttons in the middle (red area) but, well, shortcuts.

Finally, Black Circle is to end the turn and let 30 days pass (1 month).
Town Menus
Townhall
The Emperor also gives your ruler special stat boosting titles if you give him gold/items and rule enough cities. He also helps reduce your infamy which reduces your chances to recruit.
Using your contribution points you can force an enemy force to make peace with you for a year, so you can focus elsewhere.

You can summon special NPCs here, caravan is important!
Appoint a heir in case you die.
Step down as a ruler so someone else can be ruler but its mostly a bad decision.

Personnel
Employ officers by sending someone to convince them, only unassigned officers can try and recruit others, convincing takes time and the chances go up with stats and rapport.
You increase rapport by trying to recruit and failing or by gifting items.
If you see "days" to recruit, remember that a turn is 30 days, so anything over 15 days will take at least 2 turns. The days is the number of how far away they are, so its a round trip to and from.
If there is a low to medium chance to recruit, it would be better to Move the officer to a city closer to the recruitable officer and try to convince them until they cave in. This will save you the return trip to the capital everytime. (See Gate).
However! If the recruitable officers are prisoners, its best to transport them to the capital instead by Develop->Transport (See: Extra city->Manual mode)
When recruiting prisoners it might be a good idea to check the relations between them, if you recruit a specific one first, he can easily recruit his friends/family.

There is an "Auto" feature, useful if you have lots of prisioners.

Fate is to increase rapport between officers and some small stat boosts if you have alcohol, they also are more likely to "support" each other during battles with extra attacks.

Become sworn bros or sistahs, we dont judge.

You can also marry officers, the event will boost a stat on both parties, depending on their highest stat synergy and the level of the jewelry offered at the marriage, each man can only have up to 3 wives.

Award disloyal officers with an item they like to increase their loyalty, regardless of where they currently are. Replace changes items, its safe for items but if its a downgrade, officer will lose loyalty.

Appoint
Appoint prefects (governors) to your other cities here, the governor stats will determine the efficiency of how the city is ruled. (See more on Extra cities section)

You appoint your councilors here but dont always go with the top option, their stats matter.
For example, if you want bonuses to Employ, you want a charming Minister not someone with Governance which would boost Development instead. That said, give those +Charm items to your Minister.

You can assign titles to officers to boost their stats&loyalty, it increases their salary.
You can only appoint titles according to the officer's rank level and title requirements (Vice Rank 9 is the lowest)

Assign special seals to officers so they can lead special units.

Gate
You can setup good transports here, they take a while to move and you can see their progress as time passes on the map, if you click on the city of the left, you can order a transport from another city to your own capital or to other city (it shows the capital to other city as default, you can change this). This way, you wont have to go to the outside city to order transports outside the capital.

You can also move (summon) other city's officers to the capital, if you want to move other officers to other cities, change the Target city (click where it says select in green text), this way you can easily move capital officers to outside cities. You can use the filter to only summon officers from a certain city.

Searches are done here in case you dont want to do it through the To-Do menu.

Stables
You can breed studhorses here (special horses).
Studhorses get "consumed" when used.
Stable level unlocks additional horse padlocks, cuz when a horse is born it takes 2 years to be available, so having multiple padlocks make this more efficient but also a huge investment.
L2: 3000xp ~ 23000G
L3: 3000xp ~ 68000G
L4: 4000xp ~ 150000G
*The stables get some free XP from breeding horses.

Watchtower
Here you can set your spy to build your network, the investment is a monthly expense and the more you spend, the faster the network expands, the Spy's stats also help.

Barracks
Drill/Recruit/Dismiss Military forces.
Drill raises combat XP and morale, this determines unit's skillpoints and damage.
Each unit has upkeep value (monthly expenses)
Recruiting will lower your population, dismissing will raise it, recruiting will also decrease security which may lead to riots.
Drill will tie down your officers until the unit's morale and XP reaches 100.

Workshop
Research for bonuses and item creation.
You cant assign researchers until you pick a research you want to do.
Completed research has a small checkmark on the side.
The number below the icon is how many months it will take to complete.
Each tech has researcher stat requirements i.e. Hunting needs 55 Archer+ 50 Combat.
Only officers that meet the requirements will appear on the selectable list.
The researcher MATH stat affect the gold cost but NOT the time.
You need two researchers assigned so the OK button will be available.
You can scroll down or to the right to see the whole tree.
You can only research one thing at a time.

When the artisan is in your capital, you can commission equipment from him here.
(See Blacksmith Annex)

Tavern
You can sometimes see a glowing circle on it, it means there is a rumor available.
You can sometimes find recruitable officers and gift them items, these gifts will be gone even if you recruit them.
You can use bought Alcohol from merchants to do a banquet and increase loyalty/rapport here, its not unlimited.
If there is a free officer and you have alcohol, you can talk to him and you have a chance of duel/debate him to insta-recruit.
Special NPCs stay here, like Seers and Doctors.

Market
Borrow Gold/Money with Interest, pay it back.
Buy items but cant sell them UNLESS a trade caravan is in town.

Yeah..

College
Raise strong officers for future generations.
You can assign masters and they wont be removed from other tasks.
As months pass, you gain training tokens which you can use to upgrade kid's abilities, the tokens, however, are shared between them all so use them wisely.
You can also sometimes get tokens after battles.
Masters affect how much XP you give to the recruits monthly and how many XP spending a training token gives, Dont spend tokens if you have mediocre masters on that field.
Kids graduate when they turn 16 but dont get employed until January.
Some Kids can even inherit their parent's specials.

Personages come here if summoned, they let you train a random stat with them or teach a skill or give you a training token and also craft books, you need to have at least 1 stationary [a brush, ink, paper or inkslab] in your inventory, the more you combine in a single use, the better book you can make.

Square
Proposals sometimes appear here, they are like sidequests.
You need unassigned officers to send to do proposals, each has unique requirements.
The term is how long you have to pick up the proposal before you fail it.
Some missions will lower your population support and fame if you ignore them.
Missions are resolved in 1 month.
Maybe doing the missions give you small stat XP. (Need to check)
Bottom Menus
Affairs
Develop interface is here.
Move your ruler and your capital along with officers, prisoners and items to somewhere else.
Set Policies for your extra cities from here. (See managing extra cities guide section)
Legion lets you set sub-provinces which will all have the same policy.
This is useful if you want your backline to have a different AI policy than your fronts.
You need a Rank 4 or higher officer to act as Governor.
*Im not sure if the Council set here overwrites Prefects bonuses or stacks with them.

Deploy
Move troops to conquer or defend.
First, click on Target to select a city you want to conquer.*
Second, go to Unit and setup which units will go, you dont need to have 2 officers per unit, 1 is fine.
Lastly, go to Overview, make sure to take enough Food fo and click OK.
You can automatically take over cities without a Force in them when you deploy to them.

*You can change the starter city, click on the city (by default your capital) then select the city you want to deploy troops from.

Every unit can have two officers, why? well, in case you want to combine their skillsets.
The lead officer affects combat stats and the deputy officer affects tactics/calm if his is higher.
Deputy officers can also help your unit get skills like Fire or Guard if they have them and your lead does not. If their rapport is very good you can sometimes do from 110% to 130% damage.

Special skills like "Fire in the Sky" can only be done by the unit if the leading officer has it.
However, lets say your leading officer doesn't have the Fire tactic, if your deputy does, the unit will still be able to use it even if your lead officer doesn't have it.

You can only send 6 units in a single army, however, you can deploy multiple armies.

The Unit size is determined by the officer's rank which is determined by their Deeds value.
Each level has a Vice Rank and a Rank, it goes from 9 as the lowest to 1 the highest.
Each rank gives you an extra max troops to your units.
You can increase deeds by participating in battles/duels or proposals in the Square and I think successful spy missions.
You can see Deeds, Command and Rank Level under Info->Officers->Basic
Deputy officers also get ~half Deeds when battles are won.

At the bottom, you can see the Template button, this is to save/load your army loadouts.

Diplomacy
Send a diplomat to target city, after he arrives, you can do several things:
Present: Increase rapport with target force.
Random: Demand resources in exchange of their prisoners.
Alliance: Propose an Alliance
Abandon: Break an Alliance
Surrender: Threaten the force to surrender, very effective mid to end-game.
Exchange: Trade resources/tech for target's tech.
for troops: I think its to ask ally for troops.

Surrender is based off several things but the most confusing is the deterrent value, this value is calculated from the # of troops, cities and officers in your force modified by the diplomacy stat of the officer you sent to negotiate.

Strategy
More like spy options.
Alienate two enemy forces so their relations worsen
Rumor so enemy officers lower their loyalty.
"berreden" an enemy officer to increase Rapport and lower its loyalty to his ruler.
Demolition will lower an enemy's economy/city resources.
Bewitch will try a rebellious city to defect to your side.
Union is to attack an enemy together when in alliance.

Important info
City->Features
Some cities have special features to unlock special units and features.
Officer->Features
Same as above but mostly unlock by deeds or time.
Officer->Individual
You can see their affinity for items, useful to decide which item to buy to award them.

Special features may give you extra items each month.

Debate and Duels
Duels

Its like rock-paper-scissors, moves counter other moves but each turn you might get damaged, the damage value is modified by the officer's stats. I mainly just click on Auto cuz me unlucky.

Bought Weapons, Bows and Armors help you with duels.

Every 2 years, a duel tournament is held at the end of December.

Handy rock-paper-scissors chart.

Some moves can be picked more than once, like speed attack and such.

Oddly enough, there is a very low chance of getting a duel if a commander attacks another commander during a battle., if you capture him during the duel, you win.

Debate Card Game
A "Brain" duel involves cards.
This happens sometimes with diplomacy or recruiting.
You can also start the card game against the Seer at the tavern when he visits.

In the settings, you can choose to play Hana or Leaf Cards when debating.
Hana card game can win you special items but only @ the Seer.

Hana Card
*Edit: They changed the HP from 99 to 60, thank god, its much faster now, they also removed bullions from the prize pool if you win, so thats great too!

Definitely the more polished of the two.

Yes.

How I think it's played:
You win by reducing the opponent's HP to Zero or having the highest score when you click on Over.

You cant quit until a round is over.
4.) There is no rewards for the Round over or leave halfway

You will see cards in the middle, you need to create combos with your cards and the middle cards before the opponent does. (Click on Details below where it says Combinations)

Cards that cant be played are greyed out.
Double click on a card on your hand to activate.

You can play cards that match the color and number of the Neutral cards.
When cards match in your turn, both cards go to your collection.

SSR cards are in more combinations and worth more, try to get those.
Some combos dont need all cards, you can see a note that says "Any 3" or something.

Settlement Zone: Your card deck
Neutral Zone: Middle cards

When someone plays a turn, a card gets drawn and if it matches one in the neutral zone, both cards go to the player whose last turn passed. If not, the new card goes to the neutral zone.

In a new turn, cards get drawn until someone can grab a card.

When you get a combination, you can Continue to get more combinations or Settle to do damage and reset everything.

If you Continue, you can only Settle if you get another kind of combination.
For example, you had 10 N officers and you decided to continue, you can only settle again until you find another combination, like 5 R or 5 SR officers or Guan Yu+Liu Bei or Cao Cao.
If you have 4 R and 4 SR officers, when you get 5 R, it might be a good idea to continue if you are sure you can get another R for the 5 R combo.

You can see your opponents combinations to see which cards he has, because you cant get those cards until the round ends.

The round forcefully ends when both players run out of cards in their hands.

If you didnt settle before this point, you will lose your combinations and the damage you could have done! Continue only if you have a high chance of an extra combination, else Settle before running out of cards.

Regular prizes are XP books (like combat or valor books) and special prizes are awesome set items for a specific general (like Zhang Fei)

I know it in my heart, the AI cheats, it 90% of the time gets the card it needs from the draw.
I get nothing in my turn, it matches 4 on his.

Notes from forums:
The Hana deck is divided into 12 forces with 4 Generals per force, which sums up to 48 cards;

Victory will gain within the combination(s) achieved; or choose “Continue” to activate more combinations;

Draw will be triggered while both sides run out of cards, and no any combination activated;

Random items (total 17 items, including the new added exclusive suits of Beauty·Diao Chan, and Langzhong·Zhang Fei);

Rewards only can be got when finish the whole game(one win, one lose); Random items for win, Bullion for lose;

Winter Wolf advises:
The Hana game is fairly simple and the AI does get some advantage in its draws but playing first somewhat offsets this for the player. You can match Liu Bei and Guan Yu with a little luck and win the round immediately for 15 points. And you can prevent the AI from doing so fairly easily with a little luck. This is the "balance" of the game or so it seems to me.

The only strategy is to deny the AI strong matches when possible, leaving the weaker ones instead: Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Cao Cao. Lu Bu Etc. So 1s, 2s, 6s, 7s and 8s are most important. It is also a good idea to try and collect the adjutants or wisdoms if you can depending on what the "flop" area shows.

Combination Notes:
[16] Zhuge Liang+Sun Quan+Cao Cao+Liu Bei+Sima Yi
[10] Sun Quan+Cao Cao+Liu Bei+Sima Yi
[6] Any 3 of the above
[8] Zhuge Liang + Any 3 of the above
[6] Zhang Fei+Ma Chao+Lu Bu
[3] Liu Bei or Cao Cao+Guan Yu
[6] Lu Su+Pang Tong+Guo Jia
[6] Zhou Cang+Ma Dai+Gao Shun

*Any 5 SR cards = 1+1 for ea extra
*Any 5 R card = 1+1 for ea extra
*Any 10 N cards = 1+1 for ea extra

Leaf Card

You both get cards, then pick one of them, the player with the highest combat card wins the smaller card, the higher card gets discarded.
Win at least 3 out of 5 and you're victorious!*
*Game doesnt end until you play 5 rounds, even if you win 3 in a row.

You can see which opponent's cards will beat the one you have selected as they will be darkened.

Special Rules:
Cao Cao beats Lu Bu, Guan Yu and all Wei Officers.
Liu Bei beats Lu Bu and all Shu Officers.
Zhuge Liang beats Cao Cao and all Shu Officers except Liu Bei.
Diao Chan beats Lu Bu, Cao Cao and Guan Yu.

Managing Extra Cities
So, you cant do as much in non-capital cities, the game will give them to the CPU(AI) by default.

Trust me, you dont want to manually manage 20+ cities, it gets crazy.
However, you can do stuff to extra cities to make sure they are run as best as possible but how?

First, let's find an extra city:
Click on World (Bottom Capital Left menu)->Search(magnifier glass)->Click extra city

Once the game centers on the city you want to manage, click on the yellow area to open the menu.

By default, cities are managed by the AI (see monitor icon in red circle), as such, you cant manually assign officers to their development or personnel tasks, to enable manual control, go to the bottom of the menu and click on Manual.

You dont need to have an officer in a city for you to get taxes from it but it wont develop.
Its a good strategy to capture nearby empty towns as early as you can, then move on to the next, leaving the captured city officerless while you get more officers just be careful of running out of food for your troops. A city without a prefect has its efficiency set at 60%.

You can manage policies for your cities from inside your capital @ Affairs->Policy

In policies, the bottom personnel option "CPU employs officers" means that if the AI controlled city has unassigned officers, it will send them out to employ officers.

At least, you want 1 decent prefect and 1 transporting officer in each city behind your lines.
Best scenario is 5 officers for each of your develop areas and a transportist, the CPU will assign them accordingly but will always invest the least amount of gold, if you want to develop a city faster and you have the gold, go Manual.

In frontlines, you need fighting defending officers too.

City Menu
Summary will give you quick info on the city.

Details will give you a more detailed report on its economy and military, this is where you can see the Prefect (Governor) efficiency which you can appoint through Capital->Townhall->Appoint.
Here, If you click on Officer, you can see your own officers in the city but also the prisoners there.

Develop (only avail on manual control) works the same way as the Capital Develop.

Personnel too but the difference is that you can use the officers stationed in the city to convince people nearby, making recruiting faster since you dont have to travel from and to the capital.
You can also move officers if they are unassigned somewhere else, this is very useful to move your best recruiters around so they dont have to spend extra time coming back to the capital every time.
You can use transport here or go to the Capital and use the Gates by modifying the leftside city.

Military lets you do the same activities as Capital's Barracks.

Special lets you unassign officers quickly through task but the important part here is Policy.
When you take over a town, you can set the policy right away but here is where you can modify it if you wish.

Policy
At the Top, you can let the policy be made by the AI or by yourself (manual).
Tribute it's like taxes for your capital and the only thing you can modify in manual mode.

Occupy
This is the guidelines for your governor to try and occupy a nearby city, only available when governor is AI.

Develop
The target goal for the AI to use money/officers to develop the city, you can set this to max and the AI will focus on develop instead of military/occupy.

Military
Recruitment targets and setup of food/gold reserves for battles.

Transport
AI will send extra units, gold and food to the target city but it will keep whatever you set in "Reserved", you need to checkmark the circle next to the resource to be accounted for in the transports.

This part is very important once you have a bigger territory to resupply your frontlines with units and troops, set the transport to the frontline cities so any surplus will be periodically sent there, keep in mind that for transport to work, you need at least 2 officers in the city (1 as prefect, the other as transport officer). You can lose resources during transport, so make sure the officer has decent patrol and combat. But check the place's income first, some places, like ports, do not get much monthly income, so having a dedicated transportist wont be so efficient.
Siege and Battles
You might also want to read my section Bottom Menu->Deploy to see more on the Deploy interface.

You can position your troops on the blue side, that will be their starting formation for AUTO battle.
The enemy will be on the red side but you wont be able to see their positions unless you buy Reconnais for 1k gold. You can do Auto here and it will be over pretty quick but it wont count for achievements... so...

You want to go manual, if its a battle against a city, its called a siege battle.
The battles that take part in ports or fields (sword and trident icon on map) are battlefields fights.
And also if you fight another army on the road, that counts as battlefield.
They have different achievement counters.

The battles last 1 day per turn, you might start the battle at almost the end of the month, regardless, when day 30 ends, the battle gets paused and you get asked if you want to skip "Affairs" and continue or pause it so you can go to management mode.

If you send other armies to the same fight, they can "arrive" even when the battle is on-going and it's been a few days or even next month! So hold out until reinforcements arrive!

Honestly, the interface is bad, most of the battle info is self explanatory.

To move, click on a unit, then on a square you want to move to, (usually green) then command it to "standby" if you want to move without attacking or "attack" if you want to move then attack.

If you move to a RED square, your forces will get exhausted and you will kill some of your soldiers.

If you dont want to move but just attack, target the square below you, then "attack".

Once a unit has moved, its flag will be darkened meaning it cant move again for the turn.
You use skills the same way as attack.
The blue bar below the unit is their "skill bar", when you use a skill it takes a while to refill until you can use a skill again.

MegaMidboss made a great observation about the meaning of Ruin stat:
"I believe ruin is how much damage a unit is capable of doing to things like battering rams, ballista units, gates, etc. And the reason why I suspect ruin is a stat related to damage dealt to objects is that battering rams don’t have an attack stat and instead just have a ruin stat."

"I know the siege stat changes the battering ram's ranged defense values as its visible during battle. I doubt defense has any bearing on siege weapon HP because when I view the Navy stat doesn’t say it changes the boat’s HP. Just the atk, defense and demolition of warships. But I suppose that it is kind of different as its still using the troop number as HP when you’re using a boat whereas siege units have their own HP values."

You can see his whole explanation in the following thread:
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/577230/discussions/1/3417683014672644522/?tscn=1696036043

Catapults cant move but they have long range, they cant shoot you once you are up the walls.
The usually cant shoot you if you stay in the middle zones, front of the gates.

If you research technology and get battering rams, when you deploy, on units tab, click on the plus (+) below Weapons and buy them, for example, some battering rams cost 500g per battle.

Once you are in battle, get close to the gate and instead of attack, pick "Weapon" to deploy the ram BUT it cant be deployed next to the gate, it has to be one square away from it and on the next turn, you can select them as units, move and attack the gate, their power scales with the unit that deploys it, not sure if damage scales with unit size or the officer's Siege stat.

When you research ballistas, they get installed on top of the gates, they deal good damage but break fast, maybe 3~4 turns of heavy focused fire. Its still a very awesome defense to have on your castles on top of catapults!

Once the gate is destroyed, move inside to "climb" to the top of the walls to finish off the enemies.
The right arrow will put you on the right side, the left arrow on the left.

Cavalry CANT climb the stairs to the walls.. so yeah, they wont help there, however, you can use the command DISMOUNT to go over there. When defending, you can actually go inside the gates so you can weaken the enemy with your war machines THEN take out your cavalry to clean up.

Infantry can set ladders on the walls, so you dont have to break the gate, once you are close to a wall, check for a ladder green square to setup a ladder. With a ladder infront of you, you can melee units on top if they are blocking you, some officers have the Climb skill which let them go up, push the enemy back and stay up there!`

You cant move trebuchets once you deploy them, so make sure they are close enough to the gates.

Im positive that your city's Defense value determines if you have balistas and catapults installed, only if you have the Tech, ofc. Also, do note that they have a shooting range of 6 squares(see yellow arrows) BUT they cant shoot the square directly besides them (see blue arrows).

Midboss adds:
"Ballistas require 3000 defense on the city before they can be used to defend a city. I think Catapults require 2000 defense. In my opinion, this makes using demolition before a battle much more useful if you can cause ballista to become inoperable."

if you destroy the enemy's command unit, you win!
Commanders have a small star on their banner.

The intrude tactic lets you have a chance to duel the commander and if you capture him during the duel, you win!

You can also win by destroying the castle's flag but ranged attacks only do 1 damage to it, so get close to it with your archers so they melee it.

At the end of the battle, your officers will get Deeds and some battle stats XP (depending on what type of unit they fought with or if they used tactics).

Looking at Enemy Unit stats
Confused which enemy unit is the most dangerous?

Click on the enemy unit, then on the magnifying glass with a plus on the lower left corner.

Battle stats

You might have not noticed, but your duel stats also affect the damage of your unit.

Combat affects Infantry damage
Riding affects Calvary damage
Archery affects Archers damage

Tactics vs Calm stats to determine success rate of tactics.
Siege modifies siege weapons dmg and HP but Defense modifies Catapults and Balistas as well as Gate Def/HP, the commander's value is probably taken for Defenses.

Battle Notes and Wishlist
Wind direction determines which way a Fire might spread.

Altitude matters a little bit on arrow damage.

Heavy cavalry will dismount into heavy infantry instead of archers and they cant shoot.

A taunted enemy archer unit will try and melee with the one who taunted him.

Misinformed or Panicked units cant counterattack.

You move faster on roads than through forests.

If you cannot deploy (Ok button greyed out), its possible its because the city doesnt have enough gold to take with you.

The number of officers is a huge factor in surrendering negotiations, if you plan for this, dont let them get their prisoners back.

Skills and Boss fights Notes
Skills

If you go into the officer's details, you can go to the "Add" tab, there, you will see Skills, Tactics and SP tabs to the right, use the blue arrows and the explanation of the thing you are confused about will pop out.

Special Skills
Some officers have special skills, you can find what they are/do if you go to the Officer Info interface and scroll down to Buffs or use the SP tab above.,

Notable Ones:
Xun Yu's Kickass
Sun Quan's Comeback
Hao Zhao's Powerful Fire Arrows
Jiang Wan's Replenish Troops
Pang Tong's Block
Lu Bu's Second to None
Sun Jian's Tiger Roaring
Liu Bei's Unbeatable is broken.
- *Maybe some of these will be useful against big boss Snow.
Huang Gai's Torture Yourself *it targets the statues
Zhang Fei's Scare The Enemy *didnt work for some reason
Zhou Yu's Fire in the Sky *doesnt work indoors
Zhuge Liang's Thunder Strike *doesnt work indoors
Guo Jia's Capturing Heart
Yang Hu's Win by Virtue
Diao Chan's Beauty Trap
Xiahou Dan's Lose an Eye

Boss Fights
I found out later that you dont lose any of the troops that get killed, so go all out!

Snow Mountain Sidequest

Yes, you read that number right, 400 THOUSAND troops.
Let me know what you get if you win, cuz Ive tried but I get my ass whooped.
Fire does good damage to it. Managed to kill 80k troops before I was defeated.
Misinformed and Taunt, even if they are successful, wont affect it, dont waste Will.
When he gets down to 350k, he will launch Hero skill.
I did get a consolation prize when I got defeated though, a lvl 7 artwork.
I reloaded and you get this prize even if you retreat.

https://youtu.be/yCYoUkzgSOk

Later, I got him down to 300k and killed 2 of his troops but still got the same prize as if I retreated.
He has an ability that lets him heal himself for 10% of his HP for the rest of the battle, like Zhao Yun's..and I hate it and they all misinform when they charge you and after fighting him for 20 minutes, you get the same prize as if you just had retreated.

Beast Sidequest
You thought that looked impossible, how about this?

Hahaha.. ah.. good times, good times.

Watch me go into a panic and play terribly against this boss in this video:
https://youtu.be/5dr6dhGa1_8
Let it all burn!

After the fight, I saved then reloaded to see if I got the same item if I just retreated but I got a Red Packet instead(L7 Buffless Jewelry, cant be used in weddings), Im pretty sure the amount of kills you do in these boss fights determines your prize.
Tips and Notes
The game sometimes crashes, save often specially after doing a bunch of management.

When looking at your city income and expenses, take in mind that things you sell/buy will be taken into account, dont freak out if you suddenly have -50000 grain as expense, it only means you sold that amount to the caravan this month. Other cities also dont get food/money every month so that info only regard on the next month estimates, Its tricky and I havent figured out a good way to tell if a city is really in trouble. Monthly transports also affects the numbers, its a mess.

You get paid once a year, on Autumn(Jul). This is when you can check the info of the cities and check if their income is doing well.

You get new summon tokens in Jan.

If you sent someone on a proposal and want him back, go to Task on the right menu and cancel it.

If you have more than 1 trade caravan in town, you will see several tabs to the right so you can switch between them.

When assigning officers, the best available officer will be on top of the list.
Everything except College and Council share officers, meaning they cannot do multiple tasks.
You need 5 officers to monthly develop + 1 in research + 1 in Spy + 1 or more in Search + 1 as Recruiter... its hard when you have less than 10 officers.

You can unassign officers quick in the Task interface (click on the X at the end of the row).
If you cant, it means the officer is doing something outside the city (like Search)
Task is on the right menu.

You can move armies around and do transports outside the capital interface, this is very important if you already passed turn, for example, its Day 7 and someone wants to invade! Pause the game, deploy your armies for reinforcements using the World Map interfaces.

Trustee means to let the AI control your game, basically it will try to win for you.
To stop, go to the gears (settings) then use End Trustee.

When removing/assigning, remember to click on OK or when you ESC or X btn it will be cancelled.

Doing square sidequests is super important, gives you all sorts of things, make assigning officers to these your monthly priority but dont assign your best men, only remove your best from Develop if you cant find someone to do a sidequest.

My preferred priority:
Spy->Recruit->Search->Research->Sidequests->Develop->Drill/Strategy/Diplomacy

You can click on an officer's portrait to see his details while selecting officers.
This is a fast way to change their items if you have too many officers, go to the City Details->Officers->Pick the one you want to give an item to->Items->Change

Since you are there, if you are wondering what a stat does, click on the blue arrow.
The green bar is the XP you need to increase the stat by one, the higher the number, the more XP it needs to level.

When developing, if you dont have officers with the relevant stat above 50, its not worth doing higher investments of money, on the other hand, if the officer has 80 or more, always go with the highest investment, unless you feel like youre going broke.

CPU City Developing: AI will always invest the least amount of gold but will use the available officers to develop, this is why it might be better to go Manual to develop faster but manual transportation is a chore.

Make sure an AI controlled extra city has a free officer with decent combat/patrol so they can transport the surplus to you or a policy-targeted city or just increase their taxes and wait for the tax collector to do it for you.

The award function can gift any officer under your command regardless of where they are, useful to increase loyalty even if they are far away from the capital.

You can award yourself new items to make yourself better at stuff, click on your portrait (top left in capital->Items->Change).
When an armor has smth like: Infantry DEF+10 it means if Infantry wears it, it gets DEF bonus.

Scrolls are a type of item which are consumed when awarded but give Stat XP and some can teach the officer new Skills/Tactics. You can create scrolls at the college if a Personage is summoned and you have the right tools in your inventory. (Buy all the Inks!)

If you dont have enough money to buy that sweet stat book, item or armor.. it might be a good idea to take out a money loan that you can repay next August.

When conquering white/free cities/ports, dont take a full squad, 100 soldiers will do fine, you'll save on food expenses.

You can cancel an officer's order by clicking on him on the world map then ordering him to "Return", if he isnt away from his city, you can assign him some other task.

If you see an officer that refuses to go into a city you sent/deployed him to, click on him then order City, you should be able to use him the next day (unpause the game, wait one day, pause and check)

Its so cute to see them make an anti-union against you.. now you know where to hit next.
It's a shame they dont attack me all at once.

Diplomacy->Surrender works.. sometimes.. but when it does its so sweet.

The more officer/troops/items they have compared to you, the harder it is to convince them, they also need to only have 1 city left (ports/passes dont count).

If you are in a manual battle when an officer tries to do diplomacy, it will fail and he will just go back.

You can send a single officer to intercept an invading army and just run around so they waste days trying to get to you while you use the next management phase to send reinforcements.

If you have several battles in a month and you manual one but havent finished before the other one starts, all other battles will go Auto without you.

You can freeze moving armies by ordering to Standby, resume the march with Forward.
When you are fighting on your walls, set catapults/balistas to Auto to make things go faster.

You get more combat XP from a swordsman duel if you win.

Have at least 25000 good troops at your capital so you can go monster hunting when it appears as a sidequest.

While employing, filter by "Arrive In" to first list which free officers are closest to your location.

You get city upgrades proposals through the Square once a city is ready to go bigger.

Eventually, you will be powerful enough that you can make yourself emperor.
I suppose the benefit is that you can give all titles to anyone you want and dont have to pay the emperor anymore but you also get 10,000 infamy points and a lot of people might rebel.. oh yeah, I think, other forces start paying you, cuz Emperor but I reloaded and didnt find out.

If you get to 30,000 renown, the emperor just hands you the crown and as a bonus, no one complains and I dont have to pay the lil dude anymore :)

You can use the Tavern->Banquet and Barracks->Recruit/Drill to increase rapport between officers so later you can make them sworn brothers using Fate. Banquet also increases rapport between officers and the Liege which is useful in Boss Fights. During Fate, you can keep switching wines until you get the stats you want.

Make your development team also sworn brothers to increase their stats.

After a battle, there are some extra buttons, you can deal with prisoners with the red button, check the battle results (including how much deeds officers got) at yellow and sometimes there is an extra button which rewards you with a training token for the college.

Transporting troops is faster than deploying them as an army.
When using the filter to select a city, it will display the list based on the last occupied city, except your capital which always shows up first.

In the map, routes that cant be traveled by an army are marked by dotted lines.
Your scouts my seem "stuck" at a location, dont worry, they are searching it.

Architecture=Build
Reputation=Renown
Achievements
Some steam achievements are broken!

Two steam achievements are marked as "Reserved", got no idea how to trigger those, I believe its an error on the developers part... sigh..

You can view achievements counter if you click the Achievements button in the main menu and cycle through the tabs.

If you use the cheat menu, or custom officers or a custom map, achievements get disabled.
You can use custom settings like immortality and fictional children though.

No difficulty achievements, you can play on easy if you want.

Since strategy mode does not let you play manual duels and battles, those achievements cant be gotten if you enable it.

Turning on Trustee mode disables achievements. (Your savefiles will have a new icon, after)

Scenario Achievements

I took a peek at each scenario and I wrote down my thoughts, Ill update this if I get new insights.

You need to finish the following scenarios:

The Yellow Turbans
Complete A.D. 184

*Easy scenario, do Zhang Jiao and just steamroll everyone while expanding south.

Dong Zhuo's Rise
Complete A.D. 190

*Lots of forces to pick, maybe Liu Yan in the west and expand south, then start conquering the south while the north is busy with each other. Lots of small forces and if you are quick, you can get up to 10 or more to surrender in the first 3 years.

Warlords
Complete A.D. 195

*Liu Bei, Cao Cao and Yuan Shao are good picks, with Cao Cao, you could expand west and really create a solid center and he can get Tiger Cavalry early. Yuan Shu has the imperial Seal.

Battle of Guan Du
Complete A.D. 200

*Cao Cao for the win, only Yuan Shao or Sun Ce can be alternatives but Cao has the seal.

Brotherhood
Complete A.D. 201

*Same as above.

The Three Visits
Complete A.D. 207

*Cao Cao is so big at the start, you can consolidate your army right away and have around 100k troops to expand west then east through the center, then south and west to Cheng Du. You can bully some 1city forces into surrender right away (Like Liu Bei) AND Cao Cao has the seal.

Three Main Powers ruled the Land
Complete A.D. 215

*Cao Cao has the seal, he is bigger than before, you only have two fronts and if you are fast, you can easily consolidate three powerful armies; 2 for defense and 1 for attack. Fastest scenario.

Heroes Reunion
Complete A.D. 300

*A lot of small forces but a lot of empty space too, take your pick and expand quick.
You can take your favorite great leader and go all out, a war across time!
I went with Liu Bei, cuz love, got tired of playing Cao Cao.

Special Achievements
Seven Great Cities
Upgrade Ye, Luo Yang, Jian Ye, Xiang Yang, Cheng Du, Xu CHang, Chang An to great city level

*This achievement might be broken, you get it marked as complete inside the game even though the cities sizes are medium, not large and it doesnt pop on steam :(
I believe playing the tutorial breaks the achievement, if someone can confirm, it would be great.

Grind Achievements
Most are just grind, here are the categories:
I will only list the final achievement on each one when applicable.
That is your goal to complete all the achievements on that category.

Battlefield Master Lv6
Complete 500 battlefield fight

*You cant skip/auto them or it wont count, these are fights without walled gates.
The AI will kindly try to intercept you on your way to their cities to help you with this.
You can go into the manual fight then let the AI take over.

Siege Master Lv6
Complete 500 siege fight

*Can be done in multiple playthroughs. (See battlefield fights achievement)

Builder Lv5
Have 50 large cities

*You need to capture the walled cities, not have them at large status (maxed out).
Unclear if this is in a single run or multiple, I did it in a single one as I captured all cities, its kinda bugged but you can still get it as steam achievements.

Founder Lv6
Play 30 forces

*When you start a new game and choose a force, the counter goes up, very easy and fast to grind if you just go to main screen and start a new game again.

Collector Lv9
Have 500 items

*Single run, inventory and equipped items by your officers count but sold items do not.
-Scrap that, I dont know why it sometimes counts them and sometimes dont.
Maybe they need to be unique items, so 10 of the same horses dont count.

Conqueror Lv5
Occupied 200 cities

*All of these achievements are broken, they are counted in-game but not on steam.

Duel Master Lv5
Complete 50 duels

*You cant skip/auto them or it wont count, can be done in multiple walkthroughs.
Tournaments and Swordmaster tokens are a fast way to do this one.

Seeker LV9
Find 1000 officers

*Search results only, multiple playthroughs, one of the biggest grinds.
This goes faster in the early game with good search officers.
Cao Cao with lots of cities has great search officers available, the way I grinded this out, once I had my great search officers out there on turn 3 or 4, I made a save. I then just passed turns until 3 turns in a row when I didnt find anyone, reload, got around 20 to 30 in 10 mins this way.

Ruler Lv9
Have 1000 officers

*You need to have 1k officers in one run which is not that difficult if you turn death from old age off, I suggest the Heroes Reunion scenario to go for this one, you should get the 1000 officers a little before you end the game. Making the small forces surrender to you is very efficient.

Terminator Lv5
Complete 100 scenarios

*The biggest chore achievement in the game.
You dont need to occupy all cities, just destroy/subdue all enemy forces.
Credits are unskippable, this was super annoying... since, you know, 100 scenario wins.
You can close the game though, since the counter goes up before the credits.
Counter goes up when the last force is eliminated, you can reload and grind this out fast.

Warlord Lv6
Destroy 200 forces

*Counts across runs, thankfully.
Making them surrender does not count!
Counter goes up when the "force destroyed" announcement is displayed.

History Fans Lv9
Play 1000 hours

*Pretty sure you need to be in-game and not just in the menu, counts across runs, steam lists me more hours in it than the counter inside the game does.
*Yeah, leave the game on for a month or so or around 42 days worth.
Blacksmith Artisan
You can summon the artisan from the Townhall menu.
Once he is in your town, you can commission equipment from him and it uses some materials that you must have purchased before hand.

I recommend to not use this very much until you get the 500 item collector achievement, or not, do what you want :P

Each weapon has 4 power tiers: Common, Strengthen, Extreme, Magical.
Each tier costs more gold and rarer materials but also improves damage.
C: 1-7, S:3-11, E: 6-45, M:15-45 damage per hit.
These damages are only useful in duels but each craft can have sideffects that can improve other stats, each officer has their own preferred weapon.
Armors help mitigate the duel damages.

Special Units
Some cities have special units you can recruit, you will need to appoint special seals to your officers as captains, you get 2 or 3 per unlocked feature.

The seals are given to you when you unlock them through conquering a city and then unlocking the right Tech/Special city feature.

Endings
Looking into the Discord, I read that there are multiple endings, I've only gotten "The Usurped Dynasty" ending, not sure what Im supposed to be doing.

Back in 2020 user Hikari mentioned of a "Dynasty in Full Bloom" ending which needed all Great Cities and most cities commerce maxxed out.

User SoraWalker wrote:
"I believe that there are more then three ending but its not available for all force, like exemple if you play as sun jian againt yellow terbon, and maksure han is not destroy, u will get different ending"

I'll add info on other endings here when I got them, if you have info, share it in the comments and Ill add it here.

Please, please, pretty please, fix the steam achievements.
I really love 100% tactics/strategy games on steam and its driving me crazy that I cant on this game! :(

Make a skip option for the ending and credits, I liked seeing it once or twice but I dont want to see it 100 times for the scenario complete achievement.

Would love to have an option for x2 speed during battles be the default, a % success chance for tactics would also be cool.

It's very annoying to click on CPU(or anywhere else) then OK everytime I conquer a city (Policy screen) would like to have OK turned on by default, so when I click it, it means I didnt want to change the default policy..I click {ESC} and kinda works.. does it?

The auto-award feature is great to keep officers happy but there are some kind of items (like weapons and books) that dont get awarded, would like Weapons of level 3 or below to be auto-awarded. (Even better if I can manually configure this somewhere).

I would like to see kid's stats in the college.
(I can see if they are going to be orange, red, etc but not the exact number.)

An Affairs->Legion tutorial.

A quick way to change a town management from Manual to CPU and viceversa, I have to scroll down everytime I want to Transport and its annoying.
(You cant transport or move officers when AI has control)

Midboss suggests:
"You can do transports or move officers at the gate in the city view, can’t you? Just click the left city to change the sending city from your capital to the city you want to deliver things from for transport.

As for moving officers, I always have to set up a filter to just view my capital’s officers when I want to send officers from my city to other cities using the gate’s move officer. So, I’m not entirely sure what the issue you’re having with moving officers if you’ve already tried the gate move officer menu. Although it is weird that the army movement view has the menu options greyed out when you can just bypass the restriction by using the gate menu in the city view."

Let me name my savefiles or put a little note on them.

I like the Auto-Employ system but the first option is 30 days, would like a 15 day option too!
(15 days to get there, 15 days to come back)

When you do a search for a name, please make {Enter} key do the OK button.

An Auto function to Appoint the best Prefects to a town. (The officer on top)

I often forget what officer's special abilities do during battle, wish there was a way to quickly know.
Maybe a tooltip when clicking over the ability on the officer details info at the bottom.

Midboss suggests:
"I personally would like it if the battle loading screen said reading data instead of readind data. Fixing the random crashes would be nice too. I haven’t had the opportunity to see how broken the achievements are but I also like getting achievements and missing out on some would suck."

Bugs
You can equip siege weapons during defense, deploy to own city and field fights, but you will only waste gold.

Catapults and Balistas cant be automated but sometimes they are?

If you automate a manual battle and have siege weapons, AI will deploy them before moving and they wont be AI controlled, so you need to apply AI control to them on the next turn.

When AI attacks you and you go to Defend to a field, if you send all your troops to that, the Enemy will immediately attack your castle, because your troops are going to the field, there are no troops to defend the castle so you only have the Escape option for castle defend, automatically making you lose both fights.

Diplomacy always fails if you are in a manual battle when the diplomacy officer gets to the destination, so he just returns to capital.

If you exit a manual battle for Affairs, save, quit the game and load to come back, the battle will go Automatic without asking you.

For some reason, when you continue a manual battle from coming back from Affairs, you cant scroll on the Unit menu.

When you check the details of an army, you can only see Lead officers under "Officer" tab, not the deputy officers.

When you are using Templates for your army, if you press ESC you will exit Deploy interface instead of just exiting Template interface.

Sometimes my army becomes **** and I cant select it if I want them to return or Stop.

If you fight a field fight close to a city then choose Standby after you win, you enter Siege fight anyway like if you pressed on March.

You cant cancel a Diplomacy task through "Task" button/menu.

The bottom right OK button on the save/load screen does nothing?

And ofc, some steam achievements are broken:

Midboss reports:
"Another bug is that fire only deals damage during the player’s turn. I used fire arrow on an enemy ballista and noticed it didn’t take damage at the start of their turn. I imagine if I bothered to use fire on a mobile enemy unit they could just walk out of the burning area without taking damage, whereas if the enemy uses fire on me I’m stuck taking the initial damage plus starting my turn in fire. It also breaks the game a little when the ballista dies during my turn and the game then says “ ‘s unit was eliminated” as it seems to have trouble finding the right unit to announce has been destroyed."
-----------

Noticed in SteamDB those have different API names, would that be the cause?

After I hit the 1000 hour, I deleted my achievement file from my Local folder to reset achievements and try to trigger the broken ones by avoiding the tutorial but it didnt work.

The counter in-game did go up but it didnt trigger the steam achievement and the 7 great cities unlocked even though I didnt take any great city to Great status.

https://youtu.be/ksY2r_uoNI4
Pictures

I dont know how items are counted, maybe its unique items in all walkthroughs not just a single run.
BTW, my 1k officers there :)
I finally got it when I reached 602 items.. weird but its doable.

This is kinda broken too (See the 0/50 counter but I have the 40 achievement), I remember I got some of these after conquering some cities but Ive checked and all the cities I have are size medium.. not even large.
If you go to Info->Cities and sort by Type, the 7 metropolis are the cities listed in the Great cities achievement.. which I already got there but not on steam.. hope its not broken.
I will try to max out those metropolis with time and see if that unlocks it.
Edit: Got the builder 50 achievo when I upgraded a couple of cities at year 10.
Note: You need a metropolis city and a population of 600k to upgrade to Great.

Well, spent a day or two just going for the upgrades but the achievement didnt unlock.. so maybe its tied to a specific scenario, I'll try that later.

And as I defeated the pink force in the NE corner, I was like.. why hasnt the scenario ended? wth?! After checking the remaining forces, there was one I missed.. and I was like.. seriously?!

----------------

Cccc-combo!

Diao-Chan Set
----------------------------
I found out that I can also dish out the pain but only to normal AI controlled virtual humans..

He thought he could win with his quadruple troops against my defending forces, bwahahaha!

Triple LoL, the power of catapults and misinform.
----------------------------

Father and son unit, pretty cool.

Im not really clear what being a King does for me but it sure sounds cool, hey! I paid the guy for years to get this.

Easy duel achievement when you get these tokens and are so rich when you own 99% of the country.

You better hurry up, man...wait.. can you even?!

"Emergencies Only!"

Doubt

Will this joke get old? idk, its so silly, makes me smile when I find it randomly.

@Xin thanks! I added the security bit to the recrutiing part so people can notice security lowers if you do it too much. Have a great day! :)
XinGst 24 Oct, 2024 @ 11:16am
It's ok, I understand it more now. Turn out when I recruit it will lower Security and because it's so low it will trigger Riot often which will lower everything.

There's no wiki for this game and your are the only source I can find, you have to understand how much you help everyone here!
Shindragan  [author] 15 Oct, 2024 @ 6:46pm
I dont remember much about the game, sorry.
Thanks for the compliment, appreciate it :)
I feel like taxes and population are the key, so dont recruit too many soldiers too fast.

Such a incredible guide, you made an amazing work here.

Can you guide me on how to increase income early game? From what I see it seems like I have to increase Farm, Commerce to high level to unlock features for stable income, but the problem is it been two years and every thing NEVER get past 2000 because some events keep happening and lower everything again, it's frustrating.
adaniJmc 17 May, 2023 @ 11:46am
You still can have achievement with 'cheat On' in the setting when you start a new game, as long as you don't use it during gameplay (tested with last game version)

Thanks WW! I added your advice to the guide! Great!

Some good advice here.
