Mythbusters - Testing game mechanics, tips & tricks
By Sethioz
This is collection of my Elite Dangerous Mythbusters videos, where I'm testing game mechanics and various interesting things that can be helpful to other commanders. Often those tests reveal interesting facts, such as if it's better to use 2x large hardpoints or 4x medium hardpoints, which is better?
I suppose this is not exactly a "guide", but I think these tests can be helpful to other commanders when trying to figure things out, I test stuff, so you don't have to.

EP15: Can ship auto-leave with Broken Thrusters?
On this episode, I'm testing what happens if you break ship's thrusters while it's landed and then go further than 2.5km from the ship, will it be able to auto-leave? If yes, will it also come back?
Results are shocking! you better watch til end.
EP14: Hangar launch vs pad launch - which is faster?
on this episode I'm testing and showing if it's faster to go into hangar and then launch or if it's faster to just launch from pad without entering hangar. Lot of commanders tend to go into hangar first and then launch, thinking it's faster, but is it true?

EP13: Does weight of ship effect braking / speed?
This time I'm testing if weight of your ship (cargo) effects your thruster capabilites, this includes braking, max speed and boost speed.
EP12: Landing gear / cargo scoop as brakes?
On this episode I'm testing if it's possible to use landing gear and/or cargo scoop as brakes, I already know it limits top speed and handling if your cargo scoop or landing gear is out, but will it actually help you brake?
EP11: Can you catch orbiting station & Station 2 Station without FSD?
On this episode we're first testing if it's possible to fly from station to station without using FSD (supercruise) and then also if it's possible to catch a station that is orbiting at around 3-4km/s, that test reveals some interesting game mechanics and shows you how orbiting works in Elite Dangerous

EP10: Are 2x smaller hardpoints same as 1x bigger?
What's better, 2x large hardpoints or 4x medium? 2x huge or 4x large? 1x medium or 2x small?
Simple test to see how much damage each combination does, we're testing the following:
2x small
1x medium
2x medium
1x large
2x large
1x huge

I feel like this needs a re-visit with more weapons
EP09: Credits outta nowhere & Smuggle friend into permit locked system?
Trying to cheese credits out of nowhere by using the telepresence multi-crew and then doing self-trading by buying and selling from own carrier, it's already known that trading while in multi-crew, will also give profits to the person who is in multi-crew with you, but will it still work if you do self trading (not making / losing any credits yourself).
Second part is quite simple: testing what happens if you have friend in your ship and then you try to jump into the permit locked system while your friend doesn't have the permit for that system, can you smuggle players?

EP08: Can you FSD jump thru station & while mass locked?
This episode is quite funny and interesting, what happens if you try to force your ship to jump thru various objects, including a station and carrier? Is the 4 3 2 1 countdown unstoppable? Or what happens if you force your ship into mass locked zone while the countdown has already started, will that break the countdown or will the universe explode?
EP07: Carrier to Carrier without using FSD (supercruise)?
This time I'm taking my fastest ship (Blu Lightning) and flying from carrier to carrier without using FSD, what happens?
EP06: Can you earn (cheese) weekly ARX for doing nothing?
Simple test that shows you if it's possible to max out your weekly ARX by doing "nothing" (buy / sell in same station). Find out what works and what doesn't.

NOTE: If you're looking for fastest and easiest weekly ARX in Odyssey, then check this, as this is the fastest and most fun method I know of how to max out your weekly ARX, just 2 days ago (22.may.2022) I did 2 of those missions shown on the video below and already got 200 ARX. Also keep in mind that looting and doing stuff while doing the mission, is important (on video I said something like "i don't think it matters much", but it does matter).
EP05: Can you be in Same Place @ Same Time?
Quite funny test, what happens if one player logs out and then another player goes onto same spot and then first player logs back in? We're testing different methods, such as on-foot, SRV, ships and also on-foot vs ship ..etc. It's quite chaotic and funny, reveals some interesting physics about the game too.
EP04: Overlapping systems - System to System in supercruise (revisit)
I found overlapping systems and decided to revisit the System to System episode, those systems are literally overlapping, so what happens if supercruise around in them? Will you see 2 stars inside same system, but belonging to different systems? find out!
EP03: Can you get 2 ships inside same hangar?
Here we're testing to see if it's possible to get more than 1 ship or object inside same hangar, we're trying to fall into the hangar while on-foot, with SRV and ofcourse with a ship! Additionally we're trying to push another ship or SRV thru planet's surface with a lot bigger ship, will the universe explode?
EP02: System to System without hyperspace jump?
Quite simple, is it possible to fly from one system to another without using hyperspace jump? I'm taking the 40 minute journey and using supercruise only, what will happen?
EP01: Is space walk possible? (can you get onto orbit with suit)
We're testing if it's possible to get onto planet's orbit with suit only, we're trying different methods to see what works and what doesn't.

@Tequilander hmm, I don't think that's true, it might just feel like it help. It sounds logical tho, but I don't think it works this way. Will add it into my list and do a re-visit. Reason why i think it won't work, is because only the rear thrusters are boost capable, boost cannot be converted into front thrusters and even if it could, it wouldn't help you slow down faster, because you're going faster in the first place, so it takes more force to slow you down.

This was all interesting. However I must say in regards of the last (first?) video about using landing gear/cargo scoop as brakes; they won't help you slow down from "normal" speed, but if you quickly engage them after boosting, they will negate most of the speed gain from the boost while still giving you the increased manoeuvrability from boosting and allowing you to quickly change/correct your movement vector (as with a normal boost turn).

Thanks for sharing this collection.
That's a lot of work and testing! For science!

One more idea to check: from one asteroid ring to another (of the same planet) without using FSD. Spoiler - yes, it works.
