In 1944 the Red Army began a military campaign called the Operation Bagration, whose main goals were to secure territories of Byelorussia and to encircle and crush Wehrmacht's troops. The Operation occurred to be a great success to Soviets as they managed to destroy almost completely the Army Group Center. Moreover they reached the outskirts of Warsaw after gaining control of Poland east of the Vistula River. Suddenly they came across a small village located in Eastern Poland, Białostoskie voivodeship, called Szczuczyn.
