1) Max Hp Gain.
The only 'difficult' parts of the game requires more max hp (the final damage spike and seals). Also helps with funneling. This basically makes the game 9% easier.

2) Food Value.
This also helps tank the last damage spike, I'd say this helps by like 4.5%, the 'drawback' is you eat slower, but that actually isn't that much of a problem because the main pain of the game is damage spikes, eating fast/slow has no impact on spikes.

3) Combat Shield.
This will help with funnels and fights maybe 3% helpful, it doesn't help with volcano/damage spikes so not THAT OP.

3) Food CD.
This doesn't help as much as it seems, maybe 1%, at the start decay kills you but by late game decay does nothing so CD is meaningless.

4) Base Decay.
I've read this barely has any impact on anything, maybe like half a percent? Again, decay is meaningless late game.

5) Decay Growth.
I hear this is even less useful than Base Decay, so maybe .35%

6-7) Exp Requirements.
This seems to be actively harmful, it lowers the time you are alive per round leading to less max HP gain, making the endgame harder. Chapter 1-7 will be 5% faster, but chapter 8-9 will be 5% harder, which ultimately I think makes these perks negative 1% useful.. Because of the length and difficulty value of C8-9.

8) Passive Jobs.
Another actively harmful perk. You will get to C8 faster, but then it will pre cook all your food, making seals harder, and making lava and the final damage spike really annoying. Negative 15% rating on this one, avoid at all costs.

Let me know if I got anything wrong, and yes my % values are weird, I tried to keep the full run in mind and not just what that perk was affecting.

Yeah passive jobs is like the only thing I was right about here, adds like a dozen hours to a run

In the late game, decay is the only thing stopping you from reaching the end. Hp gain should be 7. the only thing you got right is passive jobs is bad and you shouldn't get it..

Yeah I agree, I was very off in nearly everything I wrote, I just tried to estimate what I felt like they effected as a total percentage of benefit, food for thought tho

I have two problems with this guide. First, if you don't have any actual reason for the percents, don't use actual numbers. You're basically just guessing based on your feelings, and it's fine to put those out there, but don't present it as some kind of statistical fact.

Second, I hard disagree on the xp gain. You say it leads to lower max HP gains, and for Max HP gain per run you're correct, but in the long term it actually leads to greater max HP gains per second, which is more important. Max HP gain is a function of two different things. The amount of time survived and the multiplier you have. And you can't gain multipliers in the early chapters so spending less time on them where your max HP gain per second is lower anyways is actively advantageous to gaining max HP per second of time actually playing.

finished my first playthrough in 369 and my second in 291 with the below upgrades, so yeah like a 20-30% improvement

actually couldnt you quantify this a bit using the generation history tab and looking at how many gens it took you to complete the game? tbf that would be a huge pain for one person, but when were discussing things we should post our gen numbers. im currently on my first NG+ i took both exp and the health starting value decrease or whatever, kinda regretting that one.

only on chapter 5 so i might end up regretting everything but so far i feel like my runs are lasting 10-20% longer than my first playthrough.

Apparently its better to just kill the bull, farm hunting xp in the next chapter, till bull can be hunted in under a minute, then just hunt it from there- But idk, I like just wasting 20 gens hunting the bull straight up personally

i find the xp perks extremely potent, but what im more annoyed by is the huge lull versus the chap 7 bull, im at ng +2 and ive been getting 1-5- new explorations every life with the xp perks and getting rly far rly fast until i hit the bull, now ive lulled through 30+ lives alrdy, i believe im being optimized by funneling hourglass as much as possible cuz it allows me to get more hunting xp on the pelicans to prep correctly for hunting the bull, but it's still such a slog, does anyone know any tips for the bull? cuz i am just stumped hahaha
