How to fix keyboard/controls not working in playtest (Windows 10)

While working with RPG Maker 2003 you might find that your controls, directions, enter button, etc may stop working correctly while in play test mode. In my case, I could not enter the game from the main menu with any key other than "Alt". This guide will show you how to fix it.

You need to use a program that the developer made to fix this bug when it happens. This fixes the issue for me every time.

Solution

I found this thread which shows a similar problem & the solution by one of the RPG Maker 2003 developers/maintainers (DTCherry) in the form of a "Keyboard reset tool"

You need to run this tool (posted & created by the developer, see thread above) to reset your keyboard when this bug appears for you.

That should fix your issue! You may need to restart RPG Maker 2003, in my case I've only needed to restart the play test.

I also recommend placing the exe within your preferred project directories, and then pinning it to start or making it easily accessible. I found the bug to be persistent, but the reset tool always effective.

I've reported this to Cherry but it's not doing anything in Windows 11 on a laptop with a touch screen

IT DOESNT WORK :(((( ive used the tool you sent multiple times and still doesnt work. ive tried redownloading, making new projects but nothing works. only CTRL moves and arrow keys dont work. Its not an issue with my computer because EVERY other app or game works
