Witch: an easy build

Here is an easy build for the Witch.

Spellbook
  • [1] Cauldron
  • [2] Magic Missile (can be found in Floor 1 chest, otherwise in Floor 2 shop)
  • [3] Burning Light/Ice Shard/Electric Shock, in this order of priority (Level 2 reward)
  • [4] Duplicate (Level 4 reward)
  • [5] Blizzard, Inferno, Shockwave, Lightning Bolt; in this order of priority (Floor 4 shop)
  • [6] Some other spell of your choosing

Tip: avoid replacing Cauldron, except for Blood Cauldron.
Upgrades
  • Lvl 3 - Upgraded Slot
  • Lvl 5 - Extra Dice
  • Lvl 6 - Prepared Slot
Cheat
If you feel unlucky in a fight, press "Esc" then "Return to Title". You will be able to resume your game before the start of the fight, and have another go at it. Only the dice of the first turn will be the same, the rest of the fight will be different.

Moreover, with other characters, you can change the seed of the random number generator by moving items in your inventory. With the witch, spells are immovable in your spellbook, contrary to items in an inventory. However, you can change the seed by switching spells in prepared slots.
Final remarks
You can play this build for quests n°1, 2, 3 (nearly) and 4. For quest n°3, the "Bumpblade" is [6] from the start, and acts as your Cauldron.

For quests n°5 and 6, you will have to improvise a bit, but you should have had time to learn how to play by then, so that it should be doable to build long and powerful mana-based combos.

Very helpful! One suggestion: pick the upgraded spell slot at level 6. The prepared is less useful when you only have one more fight to go through. I found myself cycling through the upgraded slot, which is less efficient when you only have one.

The stun lock strategy is interesting; Counterspell is useful for half of the monsters. Taking it over more damage (spells [5]) will slow you down, so I used Life Drain instead of Magic Missile to balance that out. When I ran into the boss Drake, I swapped it for the Stake. In the boss fights, if you stick with Hall of Mirrors, you will reach a point - it was at +7 dice per round for me - at which you will always be able to either spam Ice Shard, Counterspell, or a combination of the two.

All in all, the Witch is a pretty fun and versatile class, and certainly the one that requires the most strategic thinking. I managed to complete the first run like this, after I figured out you can drag dice to your spellbook. :steamfacepalm:
