You can find the beetles pretty much anywhere on the map and i found them easiest to find at night. When this guide was released it was just to help people out who had no idea and was never going to be an exact guide. I find they take the fun out of the game.

In the map you will find fallen monuments. look around near them and you will find the beetles. when you get close they will borrow underground. use the new screw tool to harvest them.

From my experience the best way to find beetles is to find a flat desert patch away from any locations and stay still while looking all around. They had been popping up here and there roughly every minute or two. If you keep catching the same beetles, try moving to a different area.

I've been finding groups of beetles in three different areas so far. I'm one short of the full set at present...

yeah i found my last one randomly in the middle of nowhere while travelling at night. loving the small updates so far.

For me it has been... extremely random, and i only need 2 more currently and i found all ! I do think that they don't spawn at all in the more rocky areas, its literally the sandiest parts. (Lower part of the map, like... starter area and just below the pyramid on the map) But that has just been my experience ^^
