Farming method
Ok so chances are you've completed every other achievement in the game yet you still need all four of 500-powerups achievements (even if you had the Soul Pet equipped all the way through). Continuing to play until like NG+7 or something is tedious. Farming Arena is also inefficient. Here's how you can do it faster.

Wherever you are currently in the main game, play until you reach episode 3. Hopefully you're not that far. Some of the episode 3 levels contain guaranteed powerups right next to the spawn. The idea is that you grab the powerup and immediately quit the level (or die), then rinse and repeat until you get the achievement. It's actually not that bad with such a method. So here's what you do.

1. Reach episode 3.
2. Clear Moon Terror first, i.e. go for the spacestation-looking exit and beat 3 levels.
3. Once you go back to Wastelands-2 there will be a collection of guaranteed powerups in the area (1 Reflection, 2 Horse Waters, 1 Nightmare Reaper, and 3 V's). Technically you could start farming here but they are all pretty far from the spawn so I recommend to skip this area for now.
3. Clear Fields of Death next, i.e. go for the exit by the tank and beat 3 levels.
4. Once you go back to Wastelands-3 there will be a Horse Water and a Reflection hanging above the tank - right by the spawn. Farm those until you get both achievements. It is important that you beat Fields of Death after Moon Terror.

5. Keep playing through all of the Sorcerer's Mansion hub and its sub-areas.

6. Reach the third hub, Buried Ruins 1. There is a Nightmare Reaper directly at the spawn (where you fight two bosses). You know what to do.
7. Complete Flesh Pits first, e.g. go for the creepy pink throne-like exit and beat 3 levels. Don't go for the other exit or it won't work.
8. Once you go back to Buried Ruins 2 there will be a V powerup directly at the spawn.

Let me sum it up again. Here are the guaranteed powerups located directly near the spawn (provided you beat the levels in the correct order):
Horse Water + Reflection
Episode 3, hub 1/3
At the end, last hub map
Nightmare Reaper
Episode 3, hub 3/3
At the very beginning
V
Episode 3, hub 3/3
Second hub map

Also, there's this additional possibility:

You can potentially farm V's at Wastelands-2 and combine it with this method for Nightmare Reaper, thus having to only play through hub 1/3 without reaching hub 3/3 if you want. Or you can just stick to everything written above.

Since I'm getting pinged by your replies I figured I may share the absolute cringiest internet moment I've seen. There was this Doom speedrunner who got accused of cheating and his massive fart-sniffing pseudointellectual essay was the best thing ever.

Look up "you humour me greatly". Originally posted on doomworld forums

Weird that this person has 135h on Nightmare Reaper already... But they still feel it's relevant to let everyone know that they're not gonna do it because "they got better things to do". Apparently, "better things to do" constitutes in commenting on people's guides to let them know they won't do it.

So, 2/3s through NG+3, and having done enough arena to buy everything in Jade:

I finished 500 Nightmare Reapers by the time I'd grabbed 30 reflections [In Wastelands 2, from Moon Terror spawn]. (low life nightmare reapers were a large part of this)
I finished 500 each of the Vs and Horse Waters between 100-110 reflections.
I've collected 145 reflections since I started keeping track and still haven't popped it yet.

Hope this gives you an idea how much you get just from playing!

Thanks for this guide!

Wasteland 2 actually has 2 Vs and 3 horse waters in the main area.

And holy crap did I misread this post. i did the majority of my farming in Wasteland 2 from Moon Terror start. *facepalm* LOL whoops.

Well, for those who are interested, the two "-% enemy senses" pills make grabbing the Wastelands 2 reflection MUCH easier; you can walk right in front of enemies before they notice you're there. It's hilarious.

Also, I start doing my farming on NG+3, and had been using the powerup creation pet almost entirely since I unlocked it.

I kept track of how many reflections I got, and noted when I'd gotten the achievements for 500 of the others when they popped up, fighting out to grab all the powerups in the main area of Wastelands 2 (so 2-3 each of the horse waters and Vs plus whatever else spawned from my pet).

Fully agree. Even with the most efficient farming method it's stupidly long and it really doesn't have to be. A limit of 100 is far more reasonable indeed. Given how closely the developer listens to the feedback and engages with the community I'm really not sure how this sore point stuck around.
