The reason I wanted to create this guide was because the "Black Pearl" Talon Knife is easily one of my favorite knives in the game, and purchasing the correct one can be a very cumbersome task - because there is no solid list that differentiates between the best "Glacier" patterns. This usually leads to every seller claiming their Black Pearl is the "Best Pattern" or "Max Purple Glacier" and, without a solid tierlist - it can be very difficult to determine what you are getting.

Obviously there is a LARGE level of objectivity that must be acknowledged, and I am not claiming that my opinion is the be-all-end-all in regards to the tier ranking - as everyone will have their own opinions and preferences.

As a quick note: make sure to inspect your Talon Knife IN GAME before making your purchase - as "Black Pearls" are notorious for looking EXTREMELY different based on the lighting conditions!

I wanted to start fresh from scratch - without any outside influence from anyone else's lists. This means I sorted through every Doppler "Black Pearl" Talon Knife manually to pick out the best patterns.

Something to remember is that the screenshots generated by the csmoney wiki tend to be a less accurate representation of what these knives will look like in game - due in large part to in-game lighting. This is why I have included an in-game screenshot in addition to the csmoney ones.

I then entered the top patterns into a spreadsheet and (using the ohnePixel Sharkbay server) generated every single one into the server so I could hold and inspect them. After taking a screenshots of each - I sorted them into a rudimentary sort of "tier list" and grouped them into categories that seemed similar. These are the categories that I came up with:

"Glacier" Patterns

These are easily the most desired patterns (and the ones that get the most overpay) due to their unique arctic blue / glacier purple colorway (think of the light purple "Frost" flavor Gatorade.) The cleaner the light purple / blue is - the higher the rank on the tierlist. What we are looking for here is the least amount of pink and green.

I chose to call these patterns "Pink Nebula" instead of "Pink Galaxy" because that name has already been used to generally refer to Phase 2 Dopplers with the most pink. These are the patterns that have a large amount of pink in whispy "nebula" style patterns. These are the most common Black Pearl patterns that I have come across, and may not get much overpay because of how similar they look to good Phase 2 patterns. Some of them can still be very unique though, and are definitely still worth looking at.

These are the patterns that have Purple, Pink, and Green in an interesting pattern, somewhat resembling a "fade" or "rainbow". I do not expect these to get much (if any) overpay - but I thought they were interesting enough to showcase. There are only 3 of these patterns in the Black Pearl pattern catalogue.

This is the 1 pattern with the most "green" present on the pattern. Usually the patterns with any amount of green are the least valuable - but I thought this was an interesting pattern to showcase.

Note: There are a few patterns that fit into multiple categories, however I will generally put them into the category that they fit best into (with a few exceptions.)

These are easily the most desired patterns (and the ones that get the most overpay) due to their unique arctic blue / glacier purple colorway (think of the light purple "Frost" flavor Gatorade.) The more blue present on the play side of the knife - the higher the rank on the tierlist. The best way to see the amount of blue present on the blade is to take screenshots with the color saturation turned all the way up - which makes the blue much easier to evaluate! (This technique was brought to my attention by the avid Black Pearl collector - Yabby(Melru). This is the reason you will see a more colorful picture in this section (and not in the other sections) for each knife - with the saturation turned up as high as possible. Ideally a “Glacier” BP will have the most amount of blue possible with the least amount of purple present (and NO pink or green at all.)
