Problem(s)

In my scenario, this error would pop up when I launch Death Stranding Director's Cut or when I open the 'Settings' menu on my handcuff in Death Stranding . Your scenario may differ, but I hope this post will help you remedy a similar problem.

Generic Solution

First, always check if you have the latest update install for your:

Windows
Windows drivers
Graphic card driver
Sound card driver
Run time libraries, but that's tedious so I skipped it :P

Also do check your game integrity!

My Workaround Solution

Third, when all the methods above fail to do the job, try this with me.
Go to Windows startup menu and find 'Services'. In the Services window, find 'Windows Audio'. Manually disable this service by right clicking on it and click 'Stop'.
Now, launch the game, and if the game launches, then manually enable the services by clicking 'Start'.

Curiously, my Riders Republic would hardlock on splash screen and this method also fixed it.
It seems that this is a somewhat common Windows issue. It's quite annoying when you have to do this 'ritual' every time you launch a game.
Please let me know if you have any insight or solution on how to solve this! Also, please notify me for any mistake. I'll update this if anything new came along.
Or it could be me just being stupid and did something wrong :(

So... this problem just went away on my laptop. I haven't updated anything except the game. Looks like the latest game update patched this problem.

didn't work for me, and mine worked for about 7 hours over two sessions, and now just fails to launch. mbam repair tool from the other guide didn't help.

No.
I keep getting that thing every single loading, randomly will trying to move around... after 3 horus of gameplay, still havent delivered the morphin.

Hello. I have this game on epic and i learned this error is present on all stores where this game is available on pc. After trying all the solutions found online exept re-installing windows, I found in another guide that you should repair WMI by using malwarebytes's repair support tool. The guide was made by the user "absolute in doubt"

I had this problem for a year, I am almost certain that it is the save, my game crashed in a specific part of the map, playing the previous save this did not happen,

I made many posts on reddit and forums and until today no one could answer why the error, Even today people have this error.

I solved once and for all importing the DS to Directors Cut, currently I do manual saves all the time.
