This game has no FPS cap
It means it tries to use as much resources as GPU allows. So far the game doesn't have an option to limit it. But you do. Try to do something from bellow and see if it helps to deal with your fear.
Limit Your FPS yourself
I use GeForce videocard, so I'll describe, how to do it for GeForce cards:

Since driver version 441.87 you can use NVIDIA control panel to do this. Select 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings and find an option "Max Frame Rate". Also there you can setup inactive FPS.

For Radeon users "Radeon chill" application should help. Thanks Jake Deviant for info.
Example
I've fixed my fps at 60 (because my monitor is old anyway and doesn't do anything at higher) and my GPU usage got reduced by 20-25% on average. I've fixed my inactive FPS to 30, and when the game is on background, it uses only 35-40% of GPU. CPU usage also gets reduced (it seems CPU somehow involved in rendering).

This game runs fine for me on Max settings, 60 fps all the time except for when killer is using ability while 2 or more survivors use items, then it drops to 40 but otherwise it's okay!

v Agreed. They did absolutely no research or methods to fix the issue and instead wrote a review to complain about it and others also agreed with no research and took their word for it. I still haven't run into any issues and my GPU runs fine on this game.

The false review should be taken off, which lies about the game being cryptominer.
Many player wont try the game because of that lie
