- If you do a move incompletely (e.g. an untweaked grab), then you get partial points, and then the next attempt begins with the diminished point value. E.g. if you do a first partial right-stick-right grab, it will yield some fraction of 400 points, and then the next one will yield up to 320 points.
- Annoyingly, if you crash after a checkpoint, then these diminished point values are *not* reset. So if you did 10 right-grabs all after a checkpoint, and then crash, then after respawning they're still all only worth 80 points from then on. Crashing already resets your combo, so this additional punishment seems super unnecessary.
- The game rewards variety during moves, by which it just means stick directions. So if you only tweak grabs via right-stick up, then they'll get 400 points, then 320, down to 80. But if you tweak a grab via right-stick right, then those start with 400 points again. The same applies to tricks; special tricks are worth more than basic tricks, but you still get diminishing returns whether your trick is left-stick-upwards or left-stick-upwards-and-then-more. Only when your trick begins with another direction do you get more points again.
- Also, when a quarterpipe turns you around in a level, all left-right directions flip. So if you always do a right-stick-left grab (Tail Grab), then those suddenly become right-stick-right grabs (Nose Grab).
