How to install mods on Linux (Works on Steam Deck)
By LeSnake
The Thunderstore Mod manager sadly only works on Windows. Luckily It isn't the only mod manager.

There is also the (open source) mod manager r2modman. It works great on Linux and since it has an Appimage, it can easily be installed on the Steam deck as well. It was originally intended for risk of rain, but works with rounds as well.
This mod Manager also has a exe if you want to use it on a windows system as your mod manager

On the steam deck, you have to go in the desktop mode to install it. After the initial process you can add the program to steam to make it accessible via the steam deck ui via the add non-steam game function.

NOTE
You may need to enable the old-rounds-for-modded beta branch when the default branch doesnt work.
TLDR;
If you are on an arch-based distro (Arch,EndeavourOS,Garuda,Manjaro,...) you can install the r2modman-bin AUR package (Available on Chaotic-AUR) with your AUR helper of choice (like yay or paru) and skip the Installation section.

The AUR should not be used on SteamOS. If you are on SteamOS, use the AppImage instead.

1. Install https://github.com/ebkr/r2modmanPlus/releases/
2. Set these ROUNDS launch options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%
3. Setup Rounds mods and have fun.
Detailed Installation
If you access the guide on the device (or on the steam deck in desktop mode) you're going to install the mods, you can go to this link directly and skip to step 3: https://github.com/ebkr/r2modmanPlus/releases/

  • 1. Search "r2modmanplus github releases" in the browser. Make sure to include the "plus" since the version without the plus is outdated
  • 2. Click on the result "Releases · ebkr/r2modmanPlus · GitHub"
  • 3. download the Appimage file in the list under the assets menu
  • 4. open the file manager.
  • 5. Go to downloads.
  • 6. move the Appimage to the desktop.
  • 7. set these launch options for ROUNDS: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%
  • 8. Launch the file and the Mod manager launches
Install rounds mods
1. Select rounds in the menu
2. Click on "Select profile"
3. click on online
4. Install mods
5. click on "play with mods" and have fun :)

@DISSIDIA thanks for reminding me of the step. I added it to the guide.

Add this to your launch parameters:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%

Thank me later

I found a different guide which was just about the same, doesn't launch with mods, but another reason to still go with R2ModMan on windows (which is what my laptop is, that worked) is that it apparently doesn't have the possible spyware and bloatware that is overwolf

I clicked vs mode and it just froze. Had to reset my steam deck.

Yes, it works so simple on Deck. Just do it with appimage app, but not exe.

Anytime I open rounds after adding the mods and launching it through r2modman it never works and loads up the vanilla version

It works on the deck's desktop mode, which is how i play as i use my deck as a desktop PC but as soon as i try and launch it through steam it doesn't open. Not sure how to fix that.
