Prologue - Welcome
"Look don't you give me that 'Lowly Merchant' line, Urahara, you used to be the captain of Squad 12 and you're the one that created the Steam Trading Cards system, so don't tell me that you don't have a Banaki."

This is a tiny guide about Steam Points that kinda goes beyond the "How Points Work." Intro.

Please, help me put updated information and correct any mistakes.

Note:Please, help me put updated information and correct any mistakes. Also, for those unfamiliar this is just Bleach talk and I regularly "bleach" my guides (characters are from the manga/anime "Bleach.") Just ignore that, you're here to learn about the Steam Points.

Don't Forget To

What Are They?

This is an alternative to the Steam Trading Card System and doesn't replace this system.

These are given out when:

  • Buying and/or gifting a game/DLC for yourself/ friend or buying something at the Steam marketplace.
  • Making a Steam guide.
  • Making an enlightenment /making a fool of yourself post/comment in the Discussions.
  • Having a cool Steam profile.
  • Writing reviews.
  • Drawing fanarts.
  • Taking screenshots.
  • Making mods at the Workshop.

What to use Steam Points for:

  • Giving rewards to friends and strangers for doing the above.
  • Redeeming them for emotes, stickers, display cases, profile backgrounds, and certain badges.

Cons

  • Being "invisible" won't get SP right away or worst, when it comes to things, like guide making.*
  • Special limited time items will deplete the SP when they can be used for regular items that can last forever. Valve got rid of these Steam Point guzzlers, so, now, they're just normal items and future items won't be guzzlers.
  • This is minor, but only certain badges can be purchasable, like the Seasonal Badge(s). If ya want the regular game ones, just trade cards.
  • Plagiarism, some are stealing old reviews just to farm for Steam Points.
  • People posting fan arts that they don't own just to farm for Steam Points and without giving credit to the original artist.
  • There's no such thing as refunding Items, if ya bought some Point Shop thingy, like a profile background and you're dissatisfied...Well, tough luck, you can't refund (The PS has alerts on the store page warns ya about this. So, think before you redeem).

* Some people reward those that make badly written poorly made joke guides (or trash that's not worth it), instead.
Steam Point Abilities

Steam Points known abilities, besides making profiles pretty for d**ks measuring contests and rewarding your buds' "infinite wisdom."

What Steam Points Can Do

  • Can be earned from certain subscriptions, like EA Play.
  • Won't expire.
  • Ya have to wait 14 days after being rewarded just to get 'em.
  • Gifting friends will get ya Steam Points.
  • Using the Steam Wallet funds to buy games and such will earn ya SP.
  • Ya can redeem for things (like a profile background) from games that you don't own.
  • Ya need to have 2 hours of gameplay time, before you can buy your items from the Points Shop. (Exceptions are some games that ya don't own.)
  • The tax payments that come from buying a game, DLC (etc.) also gets converted into extra Points.

What Steam Points Don't Do

  • Grinding gems to make new Steam Points.
  • As a coupon.
  • Earning by shopping from the Steam Market.
  • Redeeming game codes.
  • Removing account limitations.
  • Getting Points for your previous purchases before the SP system implementations.
  • Account leveling up. - You need the Seasonal Badge to do this form of leveling.
  • Being use as a discount coupon to buy games/DLC/etc.(SP are not like "Ubisoft Units").

Neutral Tidbits

  • Depending on where you live and monetary trends. The Steam Points shift depending on this and the economy at large.

Note: Be aware that not all Steam games with achievements have items, therefore no items, means no cool stuff for both the Steam Point Shop and the Trading Cards system. Secondly, not all Steam games that have items are in the Point Shop.
Points Shop

Redeeming for these items bypasses the need to craft badges via the trading card system to get those and ya can choose which ones to get.

This is an example of a delisted game. But one can still buy the Point Shop items that said game comes with it. Provided that they own said game.

  • Not all games that have cool/cute items will be in the Points Shop.
  • If you own a game that was removed, you can still buy their stuff from the Point Shop sometimes.
  • Depending on the game company, you can get away with buying stuff from the Point Shop of a game that you don't own.
  • Depending on the Event Items, you can still redeem them, whether it's all of the items or some of them.

Green Herb Lollipop Tip

When viewing your friends...And frienemies's profiles, you can see what kind of Point Shop items that are currently equipped.

Kinda Unrelated Tip:
Showcases

Go to Edit Profile>Featured Showcase> Select Item

Sometimes, ya need certain stuff to activate these showcases, like having artwork uploaded just to use an Artwork Showcase.

  • Buying the extra showcases are a secondary "shelf" to display on the profile.

Tip: You have to be level ten and above to equip your purchase to your main showcases.
Items From Games
Click on Items From Games and then the Filter By Game.

This menus pops out and you can click on your games/some of your friends' games to see their items.

That's a tiny way of how to filter things.

This is an example of a delisted game, but one can still buy the Point Shop items that it comes with it. Provided that they own said game.

To find items that are connected to games that are delisted, just do a Lara Croft to find a Steam key to a game like "Magic 2014."
Item Bundles

It's cheaper to buy these in packs, instead of individually. Though you won't be charge for the ones that you own, like your already claimed stickers during certain sales.

  • Sometimes you need to buy the whole bundle to just nab the few items that ya like.
  • You're not stuck with using what's in the bundle, remember you can use them alongside other profile pieces.

Three Types Of Bundles

  • Complete Your Collection - Ya only pay for the items that you don't have, they mostly have discounts.
  • Packages - Ya pay for everything, even if you own some of the stuff. But one can also gift this bundle to others.
  • All Or Nothing - These bundles can only be purchased/gifted if you or your friend don't have a thing from the bundle prehand.
Steam Deck
(Note: Coming soon, whenever I buy a Steam Deck. But this won't be until a long time later.)

Buying a Steam Deck will give you a ton of Points.
Items Just Items
Nanao: You mean to tell me that these wholesome cute critter stickers came from that filthy game that ya like?!

  • Depending on the games, some items are only connected to the Steam badge system. Unless, the devs decided to add the Point Shop ability.
  • What Steam meant by "In-Game Items", it means that ya are suppose to buy in the in the video game's store, like buying Keys directly from Mann Co., not the marketplace.
  • If you refund a game/DLC/soundtrack/etc. you will loose the Steam Points and the SP items. In other words, you get your original points back.
  • You can't trade redeemed stuff, like Animated Borders, with a friend.
  • The Point Shop will hide items from Mature games/software, titles that are not available in the country/region that ya live i and such. (Go to your account preferences to fix this little problem and ya should see the family unfriendly stuff. But there's no way to unhide SP items if a country/region has the game/software blocked.)

Warning: There's some cases were, that the nice looking wholesome avatar profile frame (and other items) that you may like may be connected to some unholy hentai game/something you're better off not knowing of a particular game's existence.

Note: I may be an unapologetic weeb, but I found out that there's these popular cute kid friendly stickers that I want, but it turns out that they were from a hentai game...Hence, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day was ruin.
Game/Artist Profiles
The "Game Profiles" are the theme items based on the games.

Whereas the "Artist Profiles" just unique stuff that's not related to games whatsoever, except the theme of the Steam Sales. But who cares, they're cool.

  • You can mixed and match the Game Profile/Artist Profile items, even with the Game Profile Star ones.
  • After purchasing, you can use the Artist Profile/Game Profile items separately and even combine them.
  • Before purchasing, you can see a preview to see how your Profile will appear like.
  • Most of the Artist Profile Items have remained available, with the exception of the season badges and limited time profiles.
Seasonal Badges
One can continue to pour Steam Points and level up a Seasonal Badge, until, the new badge comes out.

When one gets enough SPs, they can either:

Progress in the "ye olde" way, akin to how one goes about leveling up its other badge cousins.

Or just skip the badge ranks and redeem for the one that they want.

Mobile Version

The Point Shop from the official mobile app looks and functions exactly the same. But with some minor differences.

Similarities

  • You can redeem as though you're using the desktop client.

Differences

  • When clicking on "Items From Games", there's no "Filter By Game."
  • It only has the PC desktop's side bar which has important stuff, like the "How Points Works" and "Featured Items". But at the top of the screen.
Steam Deck

Some profiles are exclusive to the Steam Deck, you can only get access to them in the PS. If you have the deck.
Miscellaneous Tricks And Tips
Sussy Baka profile*.

There's an open secret in Steam, it's that one can buy boosters and cards from the Marketplace, even if one doesn't own the game.

But remember that it depends on the company, if you can redeem for Items for games that ya don't own. If ya want the stuff, ya have to continue crafting, until you can get what you want, buy the game or head back to the Steam Marketplace to get what ya want.

Maybe a bad example, since, I just used a tedious method to find the AU Items.

So, just because ya can make your way to their Point Shop page. Doesn't mean ya can redeem with your Steam Points.

* I own Among Us on my phone.

Insanely Free

Semi-Cheating here, these items aren't in Redfall's Point Shop Store. But "For The King" is a better example of watching a dev's livestream and getting free Point Shop items.*

Sometimes, just watching a game's live stream on the store page for a certain amount of time is enough to get free items, especially if it's the game's launch. No need to "waste" precious Points on a redeeming spree. Since you already have some or all of the items.

* I don't own "For The King" or "Redfall."
Bugs And Troubleshooting Tips
Now Ya See It, Now Ya Don't

Despite that some of the games and software have their emoji, emotes and other cool stuff ya available in the Point Shop, occassionally it will bug out, like the example above. Their Point Shop store page disappears. It's a bug mainly on Valve's end and don't be surprise, if it happens, plus, they are aware of this.

It took a long while for this to return.

Ya can try to report it when this happens though.

(Note to self:) Talk about SP that straight up disappear, especially when charge backs happens or when one does a refund and a glitch happens.

Green Herb Lollipop

Getting rid of your Steam cache will sometimes do the trick and revert things back to normal.

Note: If it's delisted games and certain event items, they're a bit harder to prove if a glitch happens. Because, the game isn't sold anymore and event items can be only be redeem only during sales events. Then they either get taken off or straight up buried and hidden in the Point Shop after the main events, despite that they're still redeemable.
