Half Life: Alyx Performance fixes for the Oculus Quest: 2

Hello all! Today i will bring you a fix for common issues that the Q2 headset that prevents people from playing: crashes, lag, FPS drops etc. This guide is focused on the Oculus headsets, but if the same problems occur when using other headsets, you can try this method, but i can't guarantee that it will work as i have only troubleshooted Oculus hardware.

Step 1: Install this game on a drive with enough space, SSD's are recommended, but any drive with space on it will do finely.

Step 2:

When installed, make sure any PC hardware applications are closed. These applications are the most problematic because of how much PC power they use, even when they are idling in the tray.

  • ICUE (Corsair)
  • AORUS (Gigabyte)
  • Razer Synapse



these programs listed above cause stutters, fps drops or even a sluggish launch of HL: Alyx due to it's greedy PC power draw. XD. Close these from the taskbar, and in the tray! Please close them from the tray so they are fully closed.

Step 3:
When the programs listed in Step 2 are closed, launch Half Life: Alyx and you should be right as rain.

Combine soldier: Pick that VR headset up.
Suggestions!
If any problems persist, please ensure your router is specified for air-link if you use it. If you use a USB-C cable for Oculus-link, test the cable if the speed is alright for PCVR gaming. A good speed rating from the Oculus app is alright for HL: Alyx.

i have a 2080 ti but after the stupid steamvr updates, steamvr uses 5 gb vram so i only have 5 gb left and it uses 90% of the gpu to encode the video. i literally have 5 gb vram and 10% of my gpu to run the game.

the game runs directly with Quest2 now? no more need of extra software ?

My router is good enough, but it keeps crashing on the lowest setting. Please help, I have a 2070. I want to play this game so much!
