Foreword - Experiences from the Frontlines
The Imperial Navy is a fantastic organization to spend your precious time on SWRP in. It is usually at the top of the regimental hierarchy and offers you the best bang for your buck in terms of promotions and regimental clout (If done properly!). It is the choice organization for those wishing a more in depth Star Wars experience, one could argue it is the truest and purest form of Imperial Roleplay, after all, the Stormtroopers are but the goons, but the Navy are the top dogs!

Take joy in being part of not only the best regiment, but also the most entertaining role playing opportunities, this is an opportunity rarely given to those undeserving!

Section 1 - Introductory Remarks
THE IMPERIAL NAVY, WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT ISN'T
Congratulations!
You've made it into the Imperial Navy, becoming one of the proud and few!

Don't be daunted by the contents of this guide, or whatever your preconceptions of the navy have been beforehand, this is all about to change. All it takes to be a good Naval officer (Yes, that will be you if you heed these words!) is a bit of reading and some brains, the former of which is provided to you by the navy. Below, there will be detailed instructions on not only how to survive in the navy, but how to thrive in it! With this in mind, let us look at some of the things you can expect.
    What the Imperial Navy IS
  • A serious organization
  • An essential part of any well functioning server
  • The best place to hone your command skills
  • A challenge, something more than your average line regiment
What the Imperial Navy IS NOT
  • A frontline regiment
  • A place to earn a quick promotion with no effort
  • An guaranteed spot in commanding men
  • A special privilege that lets you mistreat others!
Section 2 - Console Operations
Console operations, ah yes, that everlasting fixture of any half decent server.
ConOps are actually quite simple, contrary to what they may seem like. In reality, there is not much more to them than listening carefully to orders and carrying them out to the best of your ability, so if you are ever unsure, don't hesitate, ask!

THE CONSOLES, WHAT ARE AND WHAT THEY DO
The layout of consoles on the bridge of any given ship may vary wildly, some ships may not have labeled consoles at all, while others may have non-standard systems installed. This section will cover the most typical of console layouts, but keep your eye out for changes!
    WEAPON CONSOLES
  • Weapons [ConWep] is used for all of the ships weaponry (OBTLs, XX-9's, NK-7's etc.)
  • Shields [ConShd] is used to toggle the ships shields and check their status in precentage
  • Sensors [ConSen] is used to scan the ships local area, up to a light year in radius
    NAVIGATION CONSOLES
  • Helm [ConHlm] is used to move the ship around in subspace, navigating in-system
  • Hyperdrive [ConHyp] is used to charge and monitor the hyperdrive systems
  • Navigation [ConNav] is used to plot courses and calculate hyperspace jumps
    WARFARE CONSOLES
  • Traffic Control [STC] is used to coordinate with pilots and incoming/outgoing traffic
  • Comms [ConCom] is used to communicate over long distances, for example to sector command
  • Scanners [ConSca] is used to scan the inside of the ship, searching for faults or intruders
HOW TO OPERATE CONSOLES: OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND IMPROVISE Improvisation is key when operating consoles! No guide can tell you exactly what to type out in any given situation, so, when given an order, your job is to execute that order within the limits of the console you are utilizing in the clearest way possible!
Remember, console commands are printed out for everyone onboard, so be sure not to format them as YOU doing something, rather, format them as what the CONSOLE is doing, this is not a /me afterall! As such, i say again, Improvise, Improvise, Improvise! You will make mistakes, but you will also learn what works and what does not, so do not be afraid to get experimental.
Section 3 - Ranking Structure
In this section, i will detail the ranking structure of your typical naval organization, however be wary and keep your eyes open, as this is the section that most often only applies to a few servers!

To put things simply, the Imperial Navy's ranking structure parallels that of the Army's, in that it has
  • Flag Officers (Commodore+)
  • Senior Officers (Lieutenant Commander+)
  • Junior Officers (Midshipman+)
  • NCOs (Petty Officer Third Class+)
  • Enlisted (Crewman+)
For the sake of this guide, i will present the most basic ranking system, though it should be noted that it only applies for some ships.
  • Grand Admiral
  • High Admiral
  • Fleet Admiral
  • Admiral (Most often equivalent to General)
  • Vice Admiral
  • Rear Admiral
  • Commodore
  • Line Captain
  • Captain (Most often equivalent to Colonel)
  • Commander
  • Lieutenant Commander
  • Lieutenant
  • Sub Lieutenant
  • Ensign
  • Midshipman (First officer rank)
  • Master Chief Petty Officer
  • Senior Chief Petty Officer
  • Chief Petty Officer
  • Petty Officer 1st Class
  • Petty Officer 2nd Class
  • Petty Officer 3rd Class (First NCO rank)
  • Leading Crewman
  • Able Crewman
  • Crewman
  • Junior Crewman
Ranking up within the system depends on the posting you have, but most often you will not reach Petty Officer if you are not able to command crewmen, and most likely you will not reach officer if you are not able to take charge of the entire ship if need be. So don't be afraid, take charge!
Section 4 - The Imperial Star Destroyer
Section 5 - Etiquette
Etiquette! What a wonderful thing. As a member of the Imperial Navy, you are not only expected to act like an officer and a gentleman, but you are also expected to be cunning, ruthless, determined and ultimately loyal to the Empire, lest you wish a visit from the ISB!
A good Naval Enlisted listens to orders, gives input and suggestion when required and if he has a complaint, takes it up in private so it can be solved in an efficient manner. There's no place for drama on the bridge, especially when the situation requires all hands on deck! Now then, rather than rambling on and typing about the finer details of how to act in the navy, let's go into the source, where all naval RP stems form, the movies! Below is a very useful clip, look at how members of the navy act and speak and take inspiration from it. When you learn to act like a member of the navy, you begin to be a member of the navy!
Section 6 - Ship Identification Chart
This is a very rudimentary chart of the ships you might face during your operations in the navy, be wary that there are thousands of ship types across the galaxy, but this will give you a few pointers:
