Description and Lore

Knightmare Defense Industries presents its first mobile base design, Camelot. Originally intended to be a transport to lift heavy cargo off of planets, the design quickly evolved into a mobile base design. The size proved to be ideal for such a project. The ship carries all necessary production facilities and is built more horizontally to be better suited to planetary operations. Its powerful engines allow it to land on any planet and leave with substantial cargo. There are several docking ports for rovers and support ships.

Camelot's typical mission is to land on planets and establish bases of operation for KDI to operate from. It can easily be expanded with landing pads and additional defenses as needed. The ship is self sufficient and functions well as an expeditionary vessel. Camelot is expected to support KDI and its latest generation of warships well into the future.

Camelot was the castle and court of the legendary King Arthur.

I use a light changing script to switch around the interior light settings. Its an older script and I couldn't find the original creator. The script was updated by ColTeH for my use. I used some of Whiplash141's scripts on the ship, including their braking script for "flip and burn" situations, and a few of their mods for taking the screenshots. The mods I used to assist with the screenshots came recommended by Taidyr, who makes some fantastic content as well. Thanks to Keq, another excellent builder who helped me improve my interiors. I used Darth Biomech's Milky Way Skybox mod for screenshots. Links below. I got inspiration for this ship from ships shown in The Expanse RPG book, I highly recommend The Expanse's books and show.

If you want a quick color conversion, say to UNN or MCRN colors, then I recommend this block recoloring mod, which will greatly simplify the process. Color Replacer Blocks - V2

Please feel free to modify the ship to fit your in game needs. Just be sure to give credit to the original creator.

Author's Notes
This is a rather unusual project for me. Horizontal-ish design, more support oriented. I wanted to build a lander based on the expanse's drop ships, and I quickly bloated the size into something larger, and the size seemed very ideal for a mobile base, which I needed even more. So that's what I ended up with. Been an interesting process. Took a while to come up with a name as well, as I usually do warships. Then I found the perfect name and I'm very satisfied. Hopefully I don't try to make a bigger version, but I don't see a need for such a thing really. Hope this ship serves you well, and I'd appreciate feedback, bit of a first for me.

If you have any questions, comments or feedback about the ship, please leave them in the comments below. I'm always looking to improve upon my work. If you enjoy the Camelot Mobile Base, likes are greatly appreciated. Thank you for browsing this item. Safe Voyages! Papple.

@silver.talon Interesting proposal. I'm not much of a station builder, but that may just make it an interesting challenge. I'll keep it on the list.

Hey Papple,
Nice mobile base, I have a request for a future build for your KDI line. I've been looking all over the workshop for a shipyard that is tailored to Expanse ships. Many shipyards are tailored to conventional ships with horizontal gravity alignment, but a station with a vertical gravity build gantry, a few dry dock gantries, and support facilities would be simply amazing. I've tried to mishmash various shipyard modules to make it work, but I'm unhappy with my results. You'd be the first to pull it off and I bet it would be a huge hit in the Sigma Draconis Server. I'm thinking of it for my DS as I'm usually the shipyard guy.

Interesting

@bierman I did consider that, but there were a few reasons for how I did it. It needed to be light to land on planets and carry supplies, I preferred the aesthetic of the exposed components, and if it were to come under attack, the safe zone generator is by far the best means of preventing damage. The base really isn't meant to end up in combat, and only has light defenses.

super. maybe it’s worth protecting containers and production with at least some armor?

@me777 You're welcome. Yeah, it is a bit on the small side, which was the aim more or less.

Thanks - I really hoped it was functional ;)
Oh, forgot to say bevore: The ship is really well made, but it is a bit small compared to my current (made-in-survival) Base. Still I might steal some Ideas.

@me777 Oh, those are actually just for decoration. They are not intended for any practical use. If you find one though, go for it.
I think I may have placed them in such a way that putting wheels on the bottom would work kinda like landing gear, but really not sure.

How do the Wheel suspensions work?
Somehow I think they are there for a reason and if they help against random stuff exploding at touchdown I'd like to take inspiration in those ^^;

@Soberlife420 Thanks!
