JNR KiHa 66 series (キハ66系) was a special diesel multiple unit that used to run in Kyushu. It was designed to have reversible seats and a acceleration rate that out-run most diesel multiple unit at that time in Japan. Because of the seat layout, it can be used in express service in theory.

However it was never popularized to other area of Japan due to its weight and the high cost. As a result, the somewhat inferior KiHa 40 was developed and popularized to whole Japan. The KiHa 66 series was retired in year 2021 with only 30 cars was built.
