"Sometimes in programming, it is better to willfully crash than to "continue running at all costs", since that will most likely produce bad results. This sentry gun could not load the team configuration data. It logged a notice and used some hardcoded defaults. The BLU engineer wrote the code and hardcoded in BLU as the team color. Now RED engineer is being shot by his own sentry gun. It would have been a wiser decision to throw an exception and halt the program.
