You parked your little defenseless starter ship but can't leave it alone due to drones everywhere? You know the enemy is going to swarm you soon and you need that extra firepower? Gathering wood/picking plants but there are too many critters around?

Deploy this little thing, give it a bit of fuel and some ammo, lean back and enjoy the show!

If this does not cut it, you may need a better armored one, or one with more firepower.
